Dear Players,
Due to some players from other battleservers using Oceania battleservers as a venue for farming battles thanks to the lower population there, we will be shutting them down during downtime on 28 July 2014. Any players in the Oceania region will be directed to either the Asia battleservers or the US battleservers, depending on their individual ISP routing. Oceania players should expect a slight increase in latency when playing on either of these battleservers, yet hopefully more and varied opponents will balance that out in the overall gameplay experience.
Thank you for your understanding, -DUST 514 Development Team

This sucks
It's not just the boosting players. It's also the decreasing player count. We used to be able to get good battles on the oceanic server once upon a time. The oceanic server would also randomly disappear sometimes too.
Does this mean when legion happens that there will be no oceanic server?
Don't forget the aussies. We get shafted all the bloody time when it comes to server location. |

And once again, another game company ditches the Australian Market.
Yes, I know we can still play on other servers, still buy stuff, but seriously, when it comes to DUST 514, the latency is keenly felt. Other games are playable on other servers fairly well, but when it comes to DUST, one of the few saving graces was we had our own servers where we'd get 20-40ms latency at most.
Stopping the farming itself would have been a better option that shutting down the servers. Low population could be handled if you gave those of us here trying to promote DUST / Legion a leg to stand on.
I have been in contact with the CCP Community Team several times over the last months trying to drum up support for EVE Down Under, as well as pitching this entire New Eden universe to the Australian Public, and have gotten nothing in return.

Actually a server with a thriving population would make them money. But no. It's much easier for CCP to blame players for the shut down rather than acknowledging that bugs, the botched announcement at fanfest, and general decline in numbers due to lack of marketing and delivering on promises.
It's bloody rude for CCP to blame players for this. Thanks for yet another middle finger CCP . |

If farming was the issue it would of been dealt with a long time ago.
Don't you people at CCP Understand we the community are tired of Cop outs? Quit treating us like we are stupid.
You closed it down for money, there is nothing surprising here. Stop trying to sugar coat stuff that is clear.
If it was anything else you would of said you where using the now available resources to improve the other two servers.

I don't subscribe to any gloom-n-doom players among us who on impulse want to suggest this is a sign of the franchise entering bancruptcy. But it is a shame to lose Oceania.
We did not ALL use this server for farming and score manipulation.
It was a great location for individual player training, and when I found out about Oceania, it helped give me a board where I could operate my vehicle more freely, perfect mavigation tricks, and build the confidence in my skills
("Confidence" is one thing each player REALLY needs in this game, to keep from feeling he/she is being beaten up humiliatingly by Dust 514---and it's so hard to get enough breathing room on these maps to build your confidence!--a lot of you Newberrys and Vets know what I mean with this game).
Highly-regarded groups like Learning Coalition used to conduct some of their session in Oceania too, if I'm not mistaken. What happens to them now?
...Oceania will be missed.

Aussie here.
If farming was that bad and obvious why not just ban the farmers main and all Alts or reset their SP to starter level?
Surely on a sparesly populated server it would have been easier to catch the farmers and then penalized them too?
Seems a very lazy response and points to a lack of will to boot exploiters even on the easiest server to patrol.
=][=
So how as an Aussie am I going to compete on a 150ms+ lag in shotgun or nova knife combat? Only thing that will vaguely work at those lag settings are REs and Swarm Launchers. Also other players might/will be impacted because of lag differences. However more likely they will get a bunch of easy opponents who act as if they are in molasses.
Eve you set your radius, queue your guns and for the most part lag isn't required as it isn't a twitch fest.
I'm used to dying hence the corp name, but at least I try and make it entertaining for the other guy.

Not to mention that lots of suggestions have already been made on how to deal with farming (no wps for actions taken within the red zone for example), and nothing has been implemented, save for a idle timer that is easily overcome.
I think you dodged a bullet not making it to the CPM Jackal. Do you really want to deal with a company that literally punishes an entire region of players because of what a another group of players do?
This is how you rebuild trust CCP? Really? The bad reputation you are continuing to build will follow you to Legion. |
