If this event is to honor DUST players by giving them a weapon named after them and possibly in Legion (yeah right)
at least name some after the people that are actually involved in someway with the community.
I dont know about you but I think it discouraging to have officer weapon named after some no-life that abused broken mechanics to get that weapon.
I'd much rather use a, "Contra's B-24/J Shotgun" over "random kid that is on summer break's shotgun" .
Just saying, if this event was in someway to honor DUST veterans there is a better way.
If not, then I retract what I've said

contest was no where in the title but from the if you want to straw man it then yes, a popularity contest of people that have been with this game and are known for some major things which would reflect the communities history and such.
Hey, I'd love an Imperfect HMG that completely wrecks anybody within a certain range. Or a Kain Spero's Forge Gun or a True Adamance Laser Rifle or Reg's Minmatar Assault Suit.
It would just be nice to see some DUST history in these weapons for things any ground zero player or even long term player can relate to and feel nostalgia for.

Could have named them after CPM0 members as a thanks for their service. Would have been nicer that letting them be known as the council that knew about the 2014 Dust keynote but, due to their position (NDA), couldn't warn anyone.

There is always going to be an issue when the opportunity for an individual to be recognized over their peers. It wouldn't matter if it were given to longest continual closed beta member, most popular or greatest player. If there is a chance for someone to lose, the tears will come.

I think it's good as it already is, only those who take this game seriously will "win"(don't see how no lifeing a weekend is a win but). Besides you have to take in account the forum community is extremely small and that their is other people from the other forums who want to be recognized as well, such as the Spanish, French etc.

IE Ironwolf's Assault Rifle High RoF and Magazine; Variable Range and Damage between every shot.  wait... not supposed to poke fun at myself. Either way community folks come and go it would take time to figure out who is going to be around for the serious long time impact of their efforts.

I don't like popularity contests, because some "popular" people have a lot of likes only by being sarcastic and rude. Why would I want to use a gun with their name on it? I think the event is fine the way it is.
But if CCP wants to reward the community's most active members, then I think they should get dropsuits based on their race and class they play the most. For example: a Sgt. Kirk's Gallente Assault Suit (sorry, don't know if you actually play an Assault).
It shouldn't be anything really fancy (like crazy OP slots etc). Maybe just something small, like it can run a meter faster or regenerates shields 15% quicker. But it should have a unique color scheme, and a little note on the info page about who Sgt Kirk is.
Then if someone scavanges Sgt Kirk's Assault Suit they can be all like, "whoa, who's this guy? what a cool suit!" |

but no, I wouldn't be for giving it to whoever has the most likes. Just some of the longstanding good individuals of this community.
but no, if Zitro was still here there's no way id want to name something after him no matter how good he was. His conduct was poor and disenchanting.

I know the feels.
But someone like Tiberius who got something ridiculous like 4000 kills...... and has been using the ScR since it came out, is on the forums, and is one of the more respected PC players deserves his name on it more than a random who no lifed it and 4001 kills.

I have a feeling that after the event is over, at least one of the officer weapons will have the names 'John' and 'Ripper' on it, maybe 'General' too.
I mean, who would ignore the biggest, most blatant likefarmer in the whole of New Eden?

Whoever wins the PLC should name it after Ghazbaran though. He was the first person to really become a pro with it and show what kinds of things are possible (popularizing it in the process), which makes it even more deserving of his name.
