I don't like popularity contests, because some "popular" people have a lot of likes only by being sarcastic and rude. Why would I want to use a gun with their name on it? I think the event is fine the way it is.
But if CCP wants to reward the community's most active members, then I think they should get dropsuits based on their race and class they play the most. For example: a Sgt. Kirk's Gallente Assault Suit (sorry, don't know if you actually play an Assault).
It shouldn't be anything really fancy (like crazy OP slots etc). Maybe just something small, like it can run a meter faster or regenerates shields 15% quicker. But it should have a unique color scheme, and a little note on the info page about who Sgt Kirk is.
Then if someone scavanges Sgt Kirk's Assault Suit they can be all like, "whoa, who's this guy? what a cool suit!" |

The hard thing though, is we don't have a huuuuge site of statistics to see who really is the best at a certain weapon. So while I think (insert name here) is the best at using a Shotgun, I can't say with certainty that she/he really IS the best. This is true of everyone that has been mentioned of deserving a weapon named after them.
That's why I think the officer weapon event is ok as it is. But there are a few names that I keep seeing pop up. I consider them legendary community figures. They've never given up on the game, and they continue to make the forums alive. I think they should be rewarded in some way too. Hence the idea to have their names on unique suits you can scavenge.
Especially since some of the "greatest" players for certain weapons have already left dust. |
