You have given the small rail turret too much range. On Fracture road a player parked a Gorgon and was able park on the pipes by the tower in the center to camp A on a skirmish with his militia rail turret and 2 shot everyone he shot at. WAY too much range.

The damage is fine, and the hit detection is great now. I'm happy the small rail finally works, but when it's better than a Thales with way more ammo and clip size, that needs to be fixed.

Your problem is not the small railgun, it's that you had no recourse to counter it. That is not always the case, and can often be fixed by running in a squad. In all honesty, your complaints about being overrun by scouts/railgun tanks/redlined just smacks of inability to compete.
Was the railgun really that key to the opponent's dominance? Or is it more likely that their team were simply more effective than yours and that rubs you the wrong way?
Finally, Hotfix Alpha (or 1.8, I forget which) dropped small railgun range from 300m to 250m. Rail weaponry is long range: that's kind of its defining feature. Ever been killed by a charge sniper from 400m away? Rail weapon. That Gorgon/PA is risking a lot more than that Thale's/Charge sniper who's sat back in the redline on two hundred rep hives. |

Large turrets are supposed to be AV. Each kills other vehicles in different ways. Rails kill from far away, blasters are for up close, etc. The effectiveness of each is another can of worms entirely.
The small turrets are for killing infantry. Each do it in their own way. Rails kill from afar, blasters up close, missiles are midway.
You're mad that a turret made to kill dropsuits from far away, killed your dropsuit from far away.

The Facts:
Mlt Rail Turret: 334 damage 0.5s (0.2s spool up) fire interval max ammo 96 clip size 24 250ish meter range.
Thales TAR-07 Sniper Rifle: 335.30 50 RPM (1.2s fire interval) Clip Size: 5 Max Ammo: 25 Reload Time: 4s
Basically it does the same damage and has a higher RoF than the Officer sniper rifle (which is salvage only), can be used on any vehicle, has more ammo and it's clip size is ONE round short of the Thales entire carry capacity, and requires no SP investment and the only down side is less zoom fidelity.
Or, to be clearer, it's a Rail Rifle attached to a vehicle with better range than a RR and about the damage per shot (WAY better DPS) as a Thales. CCP, FIX NAO

We intentionally increased damage so it would be more viable as secondary weapon in a dedicated AV tank, if you want to instagib tanks, bring friends in small turrets.
I have no particular problem with people sniping infantry with small Rails though, not like it has a sniper scope.

They have efficiency reduced at range though. I know my gunners can snipe but it takes a lot longer from range so I also dont have much of a problem. Plus the difficulty of use is a moderate deterrent for people to actually use rails vs infantry on a regular basis

@Rattati: personally, I wouldn't see a small range reduction being entirely remiss, but might I suggest that you look to the Sniper ?Rifles for the problem? Aside from the Charge and Thales we rarely see other SRs being utilised: increasing zoom range might be the simplest fix for them, perhaps an additional headshot multiplier? |

Pssh, even if it did it would be worthless. Thing fires at a 45 degree angle if the vehicle is on an incline
Oh, and then there's the fact that turrets swivel in all kinda crazy directions when unattended. Think we need to stop giving them candy, they're less obedient.
EDIT: Come to think of it... Anyway you can turn up the turn speed on turrets on LAVs specifically?

Within 6 seconds, the small railgun will have overheated. It takes 8 shots from a railgun to overheat without applying any Gallente ADS skills (ie, any LAV, HAV or non Incubus DS) which sort of invalidates your point. And you can take your superior tone and shove it, especially if you want to compare the zoom fidelity to the Thales which has an even better one than normal. |

Wait a sec you are complaining about a militia dropship which is parked and not moving from a location? Excuse me but did you ever thought about it that you could grab a sniper rifle and shot him out of the dropship? or blow the dropship up with a militia forgegun or swarms? Seriously its not hard to blow those things up. And the range is fine on them cause they reward players who can aim with them. Not just small missile spam all over the place. |

i remember specifically warning that any buff to small rails would make them OP against infantry... i honestly dont care if people complain about it now because i knew this would happen. ive been using them all day.
just had an ADS pilot tell me he never wants to see me in one again, after chasing me and buddy all match long without killing us. it was actually fun though lol |

I understand that it's a bug but that shouldn't be a factor taken into account in balancing the weapon. That being said, it's a vehicle mounted turret, if it did have more damage than a Sniper Rifle I'd be a little concerned
