They aren't telling us anything? I came to Fanfest to learn absolutely nothing relating to Dust 514 at all?!", which might have been worse in the long run.

My initially reaction about DUST is to put a bullet in it's head and end the suffering and the insult. Move everyone over to Project Legion and get it done and let us know at the earliest point in development if port to PS4 becomes an impossibility. Without the promise of persistence I have no interest in DUST anymore.
However, It would make sense to use DUST to get the last heavy weapons in and get the balance right. As well as try to address all the other core issues we have all been complaining about forever. Then put a bullet in its head. Plus some folks will still likely enjoy the gameplay.
However, if they go this route CCP need to plaster the PSN store adds, the market and the confirm purchase screens with a big obvious disclaimer so people are aware about what they are spending their money on.
I support legion. - it's more of a conceptual support. Depending on the feedback I get, it may become actual support.

Pretty much this, personally it will be a hard sell to go to Legion knowing how inept they are making FPS unless I get full transfer of assets/sp to the game, sure as hell not starting from scratch with a company that lights to backstab paying customers

I don't know if that's ever occurred to you, unless this is some console-only thing that I haven't been made aware of where you can only dedicate yourself to one game or face the wrath of a thousand neckbeards.

Dedicating time to several good games = win.

basically what i see happening here is like EA putting a new battlefield out then after a few months saying " oh by the way you cant play on PlayStation/Xbox any more that last patch will shut the game down on ____ date every one has to play on pc now" or the same thing with cod

Actually it is more like EA announcing a new Battlefield game and that the previous one's servers would be shutting down in the future. Of course the playerbase would never stand for it, oh wait they regularly do.
What did you really think would happen with any long term development plan for Dust? If they announced Dust on the PS4 then there would be a chunk of the community complaining that they didn't want to have to buy a PS4. Instead they announced that it will, essentially, move to PC and we have a chunk of the community complaining that they don't want to have to buy a PC.
I would like to see as many resources focused on Legion as possible but given the different engine and likely different technical requirements for working on a title for a PC platform I don't see why some of the team could not continue to work on balance patches and small new content for Dust for as long as people are willing to pay for Aurum to support them. There will likely be differences in team requirements between Dust and Legion that would allow for some unneeded team members to continue to work on Dust. |

Yeah of course, but they're keeping a ton of the assets from DUST 514. They're not having to completely rebuild a lot of the dropsuits, weapons, sockets, etc.
I'm sure they had much higher res assets stored away knowing they would eventually transition. Most of the stuff in DUST right now is probably just downsampled models and such. When considering that art is a lot of the times one of the largest aspects to overcome when building a game, it doesn't become unreasonable to believe a Legion Alpha could come in 6 - 12 months. Also consider that they no longer have to jump through nearly as many hoops as they did before, as Saberwing has stated.
Developing for the PC is waaay more streamlined than the PS3. We will be able to see weekly updates instead of the bi-monthly updates we see now. EVE has it's major patches but it's constantly having small patches in between each cycle. I'm sure Legion will be the same when it's developing and goes into Alpha/Beta.
It may take longer, and I would honestly not mind as long as they can actually pump out something close to what they've been talking about for the past ~5 or more years.

It's true that Legion is the future, but it seems to be quite a ways off in the future. Watching the Fanfest debacle, it doesn't even seem that they have a roadmap, or development schedule or what have you sorted out. So it could be years before Legion is ready to play.
Given that, I think it would be good if CCP used DUST as a sort of testbed. The game is already bugged and fairly unbalanced so they could try out some of the concepts they're developing for Legion in DUST. It would give us something to play with for a couple of years, at least.

In all honesty, I tend to focus on 1 to 2 games until they are completely dead. Mag was one of them, and so was halo. I then went on board with dust which is another dead game and pretty much pointless to continue playing. I'll play for a while until ps2 and destiny comes out, I'm also looking forward to the division. I'll be too busy with those games before legion comes out anyways.

If they had handled the situation differently, showed some new stuff for DUST514, and had been honest enough to tell people from the start that Legion is a project for the far future, then I would have supported the further development of DUST514.
But, the damage has been done. Players have already left the game or will do so in the next weeks/months. The game will die eventually.
So, in the current situation I have to say I am all for the complete halt of development of DUST514 and I'd support them if they'd decide to put 100% of their efforts towards Legion from now on.
