They mentioned that the Dropsuit was going to be the base. My guess is that everyone will have the same dropsuit but it is the modules that matters. Paraphrasing: "This is an economic problem. We can easily make sure that people are still spending the same isk overall. If a prototype suit is 60% of the current cost of a total prototype suit and 40% is the modules, it would change into 80% of the price would be the modules."

Their won't be any tiers. Instead they'll have what's equivalent to tech levels in EVE (though they didn't call them tech levels in the presentation). You start with a basic suit (light, medium, heavy. equivalent to rookie ships), progress into a role (scout, assault, logi, sentinel is what they have so far. equivalent to tech 1 ships), then into racial suits with a further specialized variation of your role (tech 2). All suits will be bpo's so that you won't spend all that time skilling into a suit and then never be able to use it because of an ISK barrier.

Racial? **** that. Every faction in EVE has it's own Ships with specific roles at different Tech levels (excluding ORE, they're sort of their own thing). I shouldn't be an Ishukone loyalist forced to wear a Gallente dropsuit, that's just wrong.

That part's no different from what we have now, and that's just what's planned for release. They'll probably release faction suits later on. And faction ships in EVE still use the four racial skills. There's no Guristas Frigate skill. And you get to choose your racial suit just like you do now. You're not forced into the suit of whatever race you chose at character creation.

Think we have to test the system before we can judge it. Legion will be a different game from the onset, it just looks like DUST. Recall the game doesnt do deathmatch at first, it wont be just a lobby shooter.
The skill system will allow personalized suits - like it. More dependencies on fitting rather than tier (cause there are no tiers) Judging peoples effectiveness by their gearscore is stupid but I get that they have no other metric at this time.
Again they didnt give us much to go on.
Something clever that makes people think Im not a bitter **.

BPO's are a terrible idea unless they require materials in general. Aurum BPO's are an even worse idea.
The only 'free' suits should be special edition suits such as Templars or other special releases.
Everything else should cost, just like in EVE, (exception being a very very basic suit that is enough to start scraping together isk in highsec PvE). PvE removes the need to have BPO everything for free to make isk. |

The idea is that they want players to use their suits. Currently, there are players that don't run their proto suits because it's expensive. And they felt this was wrong because the players in dust are suits, as EVE online players are ships and Valkyrie players are cockpits. Which kind of makes sense.
Not to sure if tiercide philosophy is being used in design. There were elements of tiercide in his presentation but no actual usage of the word tiercide.
Also not to sure what meta is. It wasn't described how replacing mlt, basic, adv, proto with meta would be different.

I think CCP has got this right. The suits (move to modules) and the class system is exactly what dust/ legion needs.
back In 'beta' FPS players were arguing for this - Evetards kept on saying no its about power imbalance etc. By removing the power imbalance there will be more competitive matches, less passive incentives to not run 'higher suits' to save isk increasing the power imbalances, classes will be meaningful which combined with the previous will improve weapon, suit, equipment balancing.
Not everything that works for spaceships in Eve can work for an FPS boots on the ground. |

If we assume it's like EVE. Skill level 1. Get access to basic stuff. Also get access to Meta stuff.
Meta stuff normally has at least one area it is superior in but can not be manufactured currently, requiring looting from PvE or players. Manufacturing in EVE may change soon but likely will still need PvE materials. So Meta 1 might be low CPU use modules, Meta 2 might be better ammo capacity, Meta 3 might be higher damage but lower RoF (Same DPS or slightly better but better ammo use at the same time), ETC. So each Meta has a special focus, as well as indicating how valuable the item is likely to be overall.
Meta 5 is also known as Tech 2, Which normally requires a specialist skill or maxing the basic skill. And can be built without needing to loot PvE.
Meta 6+ are faction/Officer variants. |

Also not to sure what meta is. It wasn't described how replacing mlt, basic, adv, proto with meta would be different. There's no need to call it tiericide if they aren't using tiers to begin with. Remember this is a new game being built from the ground up. As far as meta levels, the suit progression is similar to tech levels in EVE, which have different meta levels. Also, salvage will come in three rarity levels, which will also have different meta levels.
