But surely you would expect them to figure it out if it keeps killing them? Once they understand that, they can figure out how to avoid it.

LOL you can't be serious? So a deep resonating sound doesn't alert a human being to something ominous approaching?

I'd say I'm sorry to see you go - of course the things you mention are an issue, and CCP is aware of it. How they fix it is another issue. I'm looking forward to the dust keynote with cautious optimism. |

Michael Arck wrote:The game is not unplayable by new players, it is unplayable by players who fold once the wind blows.
It can be done because I did it. Many others have done it. The thing is, a stomping in Dust is not like any other game. Any FPS multiplayer can be considered "unplayable" by new players who enter into those matches.
If you don't have a tank and you're new, you shouldn't be in the open, chasing tanks, shooting armored tanks with your lil joke AR, avoiding tougher opponents, choosing your movements, staying closer to cover so you can move back behind it if need be.
New players often don't learn from their deaths. They spawn and do the same thing, over and over and over again.
Tanks weren't a problem for me when I started, it was those lasers. Yea, lasers. Designed to chew through a Caldari suit like termites at a log farm. With each death I learned that maybe I should be more in the background until I level up some skills.
And it doesn't take long to have a decent dropsuit and weapon to do some damage.
And about Warbarge Strikes: Plenty of folks played COD where if you got a killstreak, you had some kind of support. In fact, it could be more than one. The most infamous was the nuke which is the same as the warbarge. In that game, all it took was one player who was a beast, killing everybody since he's twitching on Mountain Dew and adrenaline. Folks didn't complain about that, did they? In dust the Warbarge strikes are a squad effort (especially now). So how come random blueberries in a team are playing like its COD, wanting to be the sole hero with the highest record on the kill report instead of playing with other players to coordinate a win, which is more important?
If you notice your team getting a stomping, and you guys are all bunched up together, what do you think is going to happen? You're practically giving the enemy team clones.
You have to approach this game differently and that's why so many players get frustrated. Those BF4 and COD tactics don't work here. It's different.
There are two inconsistencies with your argument.
1. Based on my knowledge of the skill tree now...anyone can get the standard laser rifle with their starting 500k skill points. So in the case of standing a chance against other laser "buttholes", this would be fair game. Plus, if you move in a squad with high level people, there is a big chance that you can play medic or hide behind the other guys. (I know that lasers have the drawback of a cooling and suck at close range. But in case of a tank, you can't revive your dead teammates, because more than likely, your teammates died in a line of fire, and two, your teammates didn't pack anti-tank gear.
2. About the Warbarge Strikes. I noticed that you compared tactical nukes (in Call of Duty) to Warbarge Strikes. Well there are key differences. The enemy team can notice if someone is about to get a tactical nuke, just look at the scoreboard for 25 kills in a row. And, if you die anytime during that 25 kills, you start over the trial for a nuke. If anyone was trying to get a nuke, it would be the enemy's priority to "tryhard" and screw over the so called mountain dew twitcher.
Oh, and people did complain about the nuke. Alot. There was boosters, camping, and powerful killstreaks. Therefore, it would be illogical to compare one flawed design to another. However, I used the nuke example in its most ideal situation.
Anyways, back to the case of the Warbarge. If an entire squad gets, 2500 points, which is easy when most are running proto like in ambush, its a killing fest. Plus, there is no "kill streak" system set. So the points add up. In addition, its hard to "avoid" the situation of really good players if there are proto players in every public matched. Its like, you're outmatched from the start.
One last thing to note: how are you supposed to get money and SP fighting in the background battles without spending forever to be even with your enemies? I like the fact that DUST is a game where you spend time, get the good gear. Its cool. But after a certain point, we should all be on the same level and just have fun. In other words, the progression is exponential, not linear, and this system is screwing those new players.

You are seriously underestimating the power of the tanks. Even if you get out of the way, and the enemies are "protected" by these tanks, who are you supposed to fight now? The mountains?

castba wrote:1. Tanks have been stronger in the past, though not as cheap/spammable. Maybe stay away if they are an issue?
2. Warbarge strike/orbital bombardment has always been here.
All new players have a tough time. The game is designed that way to get players focused on SP/levelling and create an addiction of sorts.
I am all for a better NPE but these complaints seem pretty weak.
I like the way the game is designed, but the leveling is exponential, rather than linear. Say, spending 50+ hours in any other FPS will get you somewhere, but not in DUST. You haven't even scratched the surface.

You probably have advanced suits already, yeah? Or, you might have joined at a time when everyone was inexperienced. So what you're implying is that because I joined at a time when everyone else is already a veteran player, that I must suck.
Rethink that.

That's it? You seriously have not been paying attention. The reasons are nearly legion and you pick the two that you personally don't like right now at this moment. No doubt because you have had your dead clone's butt handed to you repeatedly over the last few weeks/days/matches by either tanks or OBs. I suspect the posting has little to do with actual New Berries and everything to do with you. The one main reason, in truth, is ---> There Is No Matchmaking In Dust (tm). Too bad, it ain't gonna happen. The last time they tried they managed to produce the incredibly stupid version of Scottie? Remember that? I do (shudders, laughs). It was an embarrassment to programmers the world over. Although the anti-tank QQs were really quite touching. See you later, Kitten. PS: I like the name of your clone, very inventive.
Didn't say that was all I had to say. You brought up some really good points too, despite calling me a kitten.

But, you have around 4000+ likes. Therefore, its same to assume, within the time of your likes, that you've been here a while or at least have some good gear. Empathy, please.

Hmm. So here are my two situations.
1. Big open maps with high level players. Run away, but get blasted.
2. Maps where I can run away from tanks, but still have the players to deal with. If I'm running away, which is what everyone is suggesting, then I would be separated from my team. So, I guess I should pick off snipers in the distance? They aren't dumb.. What else? Go capture an objective? Oh wait, as soon as I get spotted I'll die in two seconds by a camper or whichever.
Think harder, dude.
(I'm also noticing that everyone who says a phrase related to me being "un-tactical" and "blueberry"-like, is already a high-level)
To that I say, why are you even here? You aren't in the same situation, so you have no experience in the subject. Maybe it would look good and sound reasonable if an enemy tanker said to you, "just run away then, this tank isn't OP..." All repliers degrade new players in a way to keep yourselves in the same positions of power. This is similar to corruption in any politics. Sure, you've been in the same position of being in a situation where you're boned, but you're saying that you had no regrets of dealing with all the unnecessary bull? C'mon.
