I think that rebranding makes a ton of sense. In addition, they registered this a little too close to fan fest to be a coincidence.
My guess is three fold:
1) As most are saying, a rebrand and relaunch of Dust. This could pave the way for Ps4 or PC launch. Or not, it could be we have bee secretly in open beta for a year, and they are finally done. Dust514 always sounded like a codename to me.
2) The mysterious 5th project could be anything. It could be a new game, or a phone app, or something. It could also have been a project running separate to dust that was finalizing issues within dust. So they will merge dust and legion in the rebranding, and what will come out, will be dust but complete.
3) A new project could work, but then if that's the case then the layoff in Atlanta are a bit sad, when they could of moved them to other things.
But I guess we will know for sure in a week. either they will announce, or they won't. and that will give us at least the answer to if dust is being rebranded. |

EVE: Dust 514 is just too long... I think EVE: DUST would be the best name

I d love EVE: Legion as Name for Dust. The Roman legions have been the strongest and Most disciplined military Group for half a millenium, they have ruled almost the entire europe for centuries. Romans were badass!!

I personally think it makes the most sense as a re-branding of Dust. There's two main references which I think support this. The first is the actual origin of the word legion:
"For most of the Roman Imperial period, the legions were a part of the Imperial army and formed its elite heavy infantry, recruited exclusively from Roman citizens."
It's pretty self explanatory how that relates to Dust.
The second reference comes from one of the most famous uses of the word Legion:
"My name is Legion, for we are many." (Mark 5:9)
The story is basically that of a man possessed by many demons (a legion - reference to the roman army). After pleading with Jesus, he allowed them to leave the body of the man and take over a nearby heard of pigs (2000 of them). They then all ran into the the nearby sea and drowned. Just seems to strike some similar ideas and themes of the clones.
Also, now for the real stretch. In Mark 5:14, the herdsman go to the nearby city and spread the word as to what happened to the pigs, and the people subsequently see that the man previously possessed had been cured. Not too much significance there, but when I saw "514" while looking all this up, I just couldn't not mention it.
Then again, who knows, it could really be anything. |

What if...
CCP needed testing of this game on core mechanics. But Sony's laws did't allowed for testing games to be publicly available?
So they made DUST 514 as an "real full game" just to test it for a real truly MMO based game with core shooting mechanics from DUST 514
One can just dream... :)

One interesting speculation I've heard is that a PC port could be integrated more into the EVE client to make it easier to balance/be meaningful for New Eden without massive issues. And that it could even be the F2P aspect of that game, with F2P players having access to the DUST gameplay, Character Slots and Skill Queues (on either PS3/4? or PC), and subscribers having access to both E:O and E:L Skill Queues, Gameplay and Character Slots.
I hope it's this, as I think that would be a definite shot in the arm for both DUST and EVE.
It will never be ported to PC because CCP stated that Dust 514 is a way to expand the Eve universe to consoles only. If it ever does get ported to PC, Eve Online's player count will fall drastically as well.
