Im a speed freak. I cannot live with a SLOW character. Even pre 1.8 where i ran an Amarr Assault i had the most stupid of fits using my 3 low slots of my Ak.0 for 2 Cx Prof Dampeners and a Complex Kin Cat. (yes the Horror, A Shield Tanked Ak.0 ; around 450 shields at the time). I suffered heavily in the times i used a Sentinel ( For the FG / AV purposes ) because of the same. Now, I like being agile but i ALSO LOVE HIGH ROF weapons My Gk.0 scout suit is already maxed out, i have all the passives i need at Lv.5 and the weapons i use on it too: SMG, ACR, CR , AR, MD & SCR/ASCR.
Im missing just ONE High RoF weapon, the HMG. The HMG is a BEAUTIFUL weapon, sadly ( and thankful in the name of balance) My Gk.0 Scout cannot use it. Now i cannot run in anything that runs below 7 at Sprint speed i JUST CANT so i come here to the Forums to ask for some advice, see what people think i should use for a SPEED TANKED SENTINEL.
Im thinking the best 2 options are the Minmatar and the Gallente Sentinels The minmatar because of the natural Speed advantage and the Gallente because of the NATURAL HP repair and high amount of LOW slots. Im looking for a sprt SPEED AT LEAST over 6.5 (best would be 7) and SOME basic level of armor repair. The Armor repair DOES NOT NEED To be very impressive, but at least 1 or 2...Speed is of more importance. The idea is to function as a Big fat scout, running behind enemies , shooting at them then ''hiding'' while i recover some HP, rinse and repeat.
Any opinions for this wannabe heavy?

They have a very special module, that might have been made specifically for heavies, it's so perfect for them. CCP noticed that heavies were horribly, horribly, slow, and so they gave us... the LAV.
What makes it even better than a regular speed boost, is that it even helps you heal when you use it. It's just like extra armor. oh wait, it IS extra armor :-}

Even if thats true I prefer inner urban environments , not open fields. an LAV cannot provide the speed i need in -+ of the places i usually roam around. ty, but no ty :3

Easy... get the heck out of a Sentinel suit, and stop trying to run it like a scout... you want speed tanking, stick to the scout suits, it's one of the many things they do best.

Any opinions for this wannabe heavy? You should edit your post so the capital letters are bold. Also I would personally go minmatar heavy with 2 kin cats, 2 energizers, and a complex shield if you can fit all that.

I know a guy who swears by Amarr heavy; I think it's the stamina pool.
Also a third low slot for better biotics.
Minmatar has natural speed, though, so maybe that'll be what swings it for you?
In the end, from what I understand they're all decent options except for Caldari.

Minmatar sentinel is 6.7 sprint speed with one complex, 7.44 with two
As for gallente vs minmatar...yes the gallente has an armor repair bonus, but the faster shield recharge, and more shields on the minmatar is better suited for speed as the gallente will be good in the first encounter, but get screwed over in the second.
The thing is, the minmatar doesn't have the option to completely speed tank. If you do that, you're wasting 550 armor that would be more use to you if you could repair it back.
However, minmatar regens stamina like CRAZY, so while you might not move faster than a gallente with 3 sprint mods, you can recharge your stamina faster and sprint whenever you want instead of having to walk around slowly aiting for it to recharge. ________________________________________________
Now for the HMG
You're looking at a weapon that practically immobilizes you when you fire. Because you can't sprint and fire your movement speed is what you're relying on, and the minmatar again wins in this category.
However, going up against other HMGs will be difficult, as the winner of an HMG duel is who fires first, who gets the most headshots, who can deal the most damage, and who has the most health.
Pretty much what that means is that the minmatar suit CANNOT go face to face with other heavies and survive easily. UNLESS you use the burst HMG.
Why the burst? Well unlike the standard one, you can deal an insane amount of DPS with one burst (we're talking enough to instantly kill std or advanced suits, or a proto if you can land a headshot). That's not the main benefit though...
The burst HMG allows you to move around while you're fighting. Burst, sprint jump, burst, hide around corner, pop out, burst, run away...
It's very similar to a shotgun because of this, and works well as a counter against scouts too. However, keep in mind that the burst is only good in 1v1 matchups. Unless you are really good with it, taking on more than one enemy will be suicide. As long as you stick to engaging one enemy at a time, the burst will do all the work for you, and absolutely melt other heavies that you will no doubt have trouble with.

Holy Kittens Batman that's clever. Making a fast heavy intending to run away to influence engagement distances. Normally I'd dismiss it because of the Assault HMG but you even have that covered. Thanks Rynoceros, I leaned something new and interesting today.

It was:
MLT Min heavy frame Complex Shield Extender Complex Kin Cat MH-82 Choice of side arm & grenade
I believe it has a sprint speed of about 6.95 or 7.05,
The cost of the suit is about 11k for 1050ish EHP

The only proper way to speed tank a HMG wielding heavy is to go Basic Minmatar Heavy!
It has a movement speed of 4.20m/s! And with 2x complex kin cats the sprint speed will be 7.71m/s!
Minmatar Sentinel only has a movement speed of 4.05m/s.
I used the following fitting this week and capped out with it in 2 days averaging a kdr of ~3-4. It is more of a HMG wielding assault suit and at first the missing armor repair seems to be not what you wanted, but I can assure you it is damn effective if you play it smart.
--- ADV Basic Minmatar Heavy
2x complex precision enhancers
2x complex kin cats
STD HMG STD Magsec
M1 Locus Grenade ---
Have fun.

Funny. The Burst HMG is the one i was focusing my eye on. Goes Perfectly with my style and i prefer the ''non spray and pray'' ways of it.Now , to be quite honest i thought the Gallente Sentinel was better for my style, but you ARE convincing me that the Min is better for this purpose. Now after reading all posts of fellow community members there is something the Gallente has, that is Armor rep. Now i know a Min Heavy with 2 Kin Cats is the bomb, but it also has quite some Armor on it, and i have no means of repairing it unless im running in a squad with someone with repair nanos or Repair tool. In the case i fight another heavy and with some skill WIN (with my Burst HMG) i have no way of repairing my armor, leaving me with some pitiful Shields to fight for the rest of that clone's lifetime...So i think the gallente while it cannot compete with the Min stamina regen the Armor rep gives me the change of having FULL HP at some point, thing that the Min sentinel does not... am i missing something.. ?

I'd go amarrican with it. I believe they get the highest raw stamina and health. Add to the fact that you can tank an extender on it makes it even more beast.
My build on a proto AK.0
2 complex kin cats 1 complex repair 1 complex extender or precision enhancer 1 complex damage mod or precision enhancer 1 HMG, whatever floats your boat TBH 1 flux nade, I always run flux though, so don't take my word on it
advanced build, ditch the extender IMO.

Someone posted above about the basic heavy frame being better for speed tanking...Since the minmatar skills are **** anyways you don't even have to skill into minmatar sentinel to try it out, AND it's faster (I'm actually going to make a video about this, because I didn't even know about it lol)
The gallente sentinel actually has some decent bonuses though (dual armor resistances) ______________________________________________
I usually run one sprint mod and one armor repair in my lows. While you can get a much higher armor repair on the gallene, you're losing out on speed.
A gallente with 1 sprint mod is 6.3 or 6.4 sprint. This is not fast enough, so you'll need at least 2 to compare to the minmatar. Now you're running at about 6.7 or 6.8 (I could be wrong here).
At advanced you have one more low slot, allowing you to have 7.25 armor repair vs 6.25 armor repair on the minmatar sentinel.
EHP is about 1200 on gallente suit, 1050 on minmatar. So at advanced the gallente is slightly better in terms of speed and armor, but the minmatar is better at bringing back your shield buffer, increasing the effectiveness of the shields itself (two high slots can give you 550 shield with 30 shield regen), and moving around. You could even put damage mods in those two high slots but I wouldn't recommend it with the burst _____________________________________________
If I were you I'd choose based on how much sp you're going to be putting into it.
At proto the gallente sentinel has a HUGE advantage over the minmatar. You can speed OR armor tank the thing, you get really good bonuses, and you can stack armor repairs and sprint mods for a devastating speed heavy.
Proto minmatar doesn't really give you anything. You get a high slot for better shields (or a damage mod on top of your shield modules), but you're still limited to two low slots.
Here's a video of the minmatar heavy in action (the second half has burst HMG footage) https://youtu.be/w5FonW5CH7E

I haven't really put all of my Heavies through the ropes, but the Amarr I think might be my favorite for offensive attacks because of the previously mentioned Stamina Regen. It still has Dual High Slots and 3 Lows to load with Biotics (or Armor if you ever wanna brick the damn thing.) Those passive reps on the Gallente are moot. There are Logiwhores everywhere and they're more than willing to backpack a brutha for a while.

I've been playing heavy for a long time now and relying on your armor is not very effective from my experience. I do prefer armor over shields, but when it comes to speed, you want as much ehp as possible before you engage the next enemy, and the ability to get it back fast. While the gallente is more effective, it has a longer downtime between enemy encounters.
Very useful Shays. Thank you.
@ Joel II : Well yeah i want speed tank MORE than HP repair. But i also want a minimal HP repair at least.

Marginally. 390/425 base before Upgrades, iIrc. Pop on an Extender or two and it's pretty much even, depending on which tier you use. Keep in mind that Gal's built-in rep is only 1 hp/s with 525 base armor before Armor Upgrades. It's gonna take a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time for that be of much use unless you're running proto and throwing on complex reppers. You pretty much need a logi no matter what.
Min also has .2 m/s higher base movement speed, which is surprisingly useful when you slow down to engage and strafe. |
