Having once tested the Laser Rifle out myself a few times, I will say that I do highly respect anyone who has learned to use the weapon effectively and can dominate with it. It is not a weapon that one can just pick up and go ballistic with like say the RR, AR, or CR due to its complete dependency on accuracy... it is completely hit or miss, if you do not get that beam on target, you are doing nothing where as the spread on an automatic/burst fire weapon means that you still might land a hit or two if your shots are somewhat off center.
Heck, if you do not react fast enough when a laser is put on you, you are going to melt with in seconds as that thing rips through your shields and armor... it is one of the few weapons I honestly fear being tagged with when I am running either of my two Sentinel fits because unless I have cover handy, I am either going to be severely wounded or I'm getting a hole burned through me.

The laser rifle, is powerful and rightly so.
However it's lack of short range efficiency, rather skitish aiming system due to the insane zoom on a reflex sight, and the requirement that even when your missjng when you keep firing. Jas marginalised it somewhat.
But not because it's a poor weapon anymore, because it's a weapon which requires skill to operate effeciently.
Although I would have the ADS automatically reduce your sensitivity somewhat, it is REALLY skitish.
Unless your a Computer Scientist don't tell me how Game Mechanics Work.

The overheat actually got severely nerfed, remember? The standard used to overheat at 60 and the proto was something like 70, and now they all overheat at 60 despite CCP stating they would expand the difference in overheat across tiers.

guess thats why I have problems getting kills with it.
but then most folks 54 and older have a harder time aiming any videogame gun and most real guns except for the shotgun
still refuse to run aim assist.
perhaps I will try 10 for settings on ads and hipfire to see if it helps

Hell, before 1.8 i start to skill the ScR and Laser, cause i dont like the RR and want something to beat them... and like that kind of weapon! After 1.8 i started to skill into the Amarrians. Protologi and adv. Assaullt.
As an dropuplink layin logi, i try to be aware of the cqc and will still stay behind the front. So this weapon supperts my playstyle. The Laserrifle is a beast when it is heaten up enough. Shoot, short break, cause enemy trys to hide, comes back, and shoot again. At the beginning i often got damaged by overheating, but its a feeling like you have to reload on other weapons.
It is one of these weapons, where the hole skilltree is need and usefull.
- you need more ammunition! (never run out of ammo so often)
- you need reload speed, cause with 30ammo and so much heavys on the open field, you wish to have :)
- you need every damage bonus, cause still on the top of overheating bonus 3% will be the hell, also on armor
- you need the pg bonus, cause no other weapon needs so much pg and cpu (okay maybe there is another weapon, but it still feels like a PG-eating monster)
But be aware. Positioning is everyting and if you dont change it, you will be hunted down. Cause you are the pain in the a...marrian Army!!!
No word for the Assaullt, he is an BEAST and if one time the skill applyin right,...bzzzzz+50zzz+50zz+50zz+50zzz...
Mostly i use STD-logi-suits with compl. rep and compl. armor
std. shield recharge and extender, and r-9 and flux DULinks.
Second weapon, the lovly `toxin` smg.
Assault is the same lowslots and damage mods on the high filled with compakt nanohive.
The protosuits are the same but more armor and more damage...
Laserrifle is exactly that kind of weapon what i need (cause im terrible in cqc).

Does aim assist actually work on the laser rifle? I thought it only applies to some weapons and the laser rifle is not one of them. I only use the laser rifle from ADS which means no aim assist anyway. |

AA only works at ranges where other rifles will tear you to pieces. If you stay out past their effective ranges where you should be engaging from, the AA doesn't kick-in.

I've been in situations where I pre-heat against a wall and then side step out to hit a target that isn't that far away and then step back behind the wall before they have a chance to do much dmg to me. Aim assist might be quicker for aiming than ADS.

The other day I was firing my laser at someone in the distance when a Caldari scout appeared in front of me and shotgunned me at point blank. Thing is, I had built up a fair amount of heat/dps with the rifle at this point and the scout managed to put his head right in the beam. I pretty much insta-killed the scout before I even really registered he was there. His one shotgun blast wasn't enough to kill me lol! Love the laser rifle. |

Proto Min logi, I don't need a weapon on that suit because it is a pure logi build, I would use a Toxin SMG but I like having the range when my heavy needs covering fire or just wants to reload it also backs people up if I want to needle someone. The only other weapon I really use is the LR on a fat Templar or assault Templar.

mm i run repper injector 3 sec spawn on my amar logi...so its a i dont really need a gun but i have 2 type of deal ..
but thats ok because when i set the logi up with av it all works out

I use basic weapons on all of my logi fits. I want as much CPU/PG for equipment and tanking.

it has no aim assist as it is a direct beam wepaon meanign it has to be on target. i have used it with just hip-fire adn boy is that accurate. anything that is a continus beam makes hip-fire easy.
