it's pretty simple, really, so this won't be a very long thread. and i really need to get to bed, so i'll make this quick.
the problem is that they already take out all of your shields, so if they deactivated the cloak too, then that would leave the scout completely vulnerable.
"that's how it should be." some of you may think, but think a bit harder. that would only reward brick tanking scouts, and punish all the scouts who decide not to brick tank. do you really want even more brick tanked scouts than we have now? because i don't.
i personally have 77 armor on my scout, because all of my health comes from my shields. i generally run half ewar, half shields mods, and a biotics mod. fluxes are already painful enough when i get hit because all they have to do is hit me like twice from just blind spraying and if i try to run away, i'll be an easy target, so please think about this. fluxes deactivating cloaks will only result in more brick tank fotm scouts, and even less diversity in this game.

But it's the scout's own fault for being detected, they must pay the ultimate price for getting caught. |

I think fluxes knocking out cloaks is pretty reasonable. Cloaks need viable counters, more than straight nerfs. To me that is the more interesting type of gameplay: strong tactics with strong counter-tactics.

And what if disabling the cloak would leave your shields intact?
If you're NOT cloaked, shields go down, and you can activate a cloak to try and escape if you have one. If you ARE cloaked, then you become visible, but you don't lose shields.
I'm sure there's some lore-based explanation for why something which distorts visible light (a form of electromagnetic radiation) around you would affect a grenade which also produces the same kind of energy. |

some scouts are meant to brick tank though....gallente scouts.
And if a scout gets hit with a flux grenade and is vulnerable, then that's really the way it is. I am left with less than 100 and something armor when my caldari assault gets fluxed...should CCP implement another way for me to stay alive? When choosing a low hp suit, we must be aware that dying is a result of it.
Scouts aren't really supposed to be in cqc situations....barely anyone is using a scout for what the role is designed for. Getting behind enemy lines, placing links, recon, hacking objectives, etc.

Fluxes should decloak you. It should do a percentage of your remaining field rather than a full deplete though. Otherwise people will just run a basic because it has the fastest regen and will use the extra resources for tanking. Maybe even just like 3 seconds before you can recloak if you get hit by a flux.
It should open a window because you screwed up.
It also will means less locus grenades being tossed around.

Personally, I don't care either way with the whole cloaking/scout thing. The only thing I would suggest is that whatever changes to get made, nobody should feel that their death was cheap. Scouts were meant to be high risk, high reward, right? Are they following that archetype? If you die to a cloaked scout, do you feel that you can avoid that death under a near identical situation and feel that you learned something?

CPM and possibly CCP is already discussing what to do about cloaking Bricked Scouts. If that issue is resolved then letting cloaks stay active during contact becomes really important for the squishy fitted scouts.
Besides I really don't foresee CCP tasking resources to code a single weapon for deactivating cloaks. They have limited resources.

many of you are missing the point. i understand that you should be screwed if you get caught cloaked, but the same argument doesn't apply to BRICK TANKED scouts. of course it applies to me, since i decided to fit my scout like a scout, but what about the many people who have just brick tanked it with 600+ armor and a cloak?
i know the gallente scout is meant to armor tank, as i used to be one pre 1.8, but it's not supposed to have 750 armor and a cloak. that's what i'm getting at. it only punishes those who fit their scout suit like a scout, not the people who abuse it and run it like an assault.

True...I don't believe that scouts were meant for this sort of hp. But at the same time, I don't believe that most players are using the scout for its designed purposes. I know it's fun for a scout to run fast and 2-shot people in the back but they weren't meant to be slayers. So, we are all at fault for misuse of the scout's role.

obviously it's not going to be the end of the world if fluxes disable cloaks, but what many of you don't seem to understand is that if they automatically disable the cloak AND disable your shields, you're only going to see more brick tanked scouts. isn't the goal to minimize fotm and maximize diversity? when people realize that fluxes disable cloaks and shields, they'll start brick tanking as a counter to it.
