So I wanted to create an RP story based upon the idea of a small kill-squad (4-6 people) going on a mission. That mission is not going to just be of the purge (kill all enemies) type, but could involve retrieval, hostage rescue, or any other possible scenario. I know these forums donGÇÖt usually engage in this kind of activity but after seeing steadhandGÇÖs RP take off I figured it wouldnGÇÖt hurt to test for interest from the community.
If there is decent interest I will post up a CS along with more information so people can get started. I am looking to keep the number of players small so that the rp does not get over-encumbered by posts of people doing nothing. These things usually work best when they can flow quickly.

Not quite sure what you mean. You would be RP'ing as your own character I would have no control over them.
Also I have edited the first post to include the CS. |

Good to have you, and yes it is. It is usually easier to react to a situation than it is to create the situation. Was really glad to see you had started a mission oriented rp up. The Dust and EVE universe is perfect for it and Dust in particular has so many possibilities.
Welcome to the party Fae, excited that this saw so much interest so quickly. |

I'm down. Got some past work in RPing and I've often played a standout role in the group I did it with back then. Hope this will be no different.
Name: Roy Ventus Gender: Male Race: Ethnic Gallente Appearance: Browned skin, shaved black top, and dark brown eyes. Youthful complexion with a sharp, cornered face. Thin eyebrows, with a slight curve. A well toned, muscular figure. A surprisingly clean overall appearance with a dirt coated skin, much like any teenager. Role: Initially participating as a scout role in most missions, Roy's made a change to the assault role with a rather mobile-build to suit his past experiences. Age: Twenty-Three Likes: Freedom, individualism, and courage. Dislikes: Slavery, hive-minds, cowardice, and Blood Raiders. Other Notes: Is considered a tactical expert because of his past involvement in battles. Known for providing unconventional solutions to issues as they arise on the battlefield. Prefers an Assault Rifle over all other weapons. Has dropship piloting experience although all of them resulted in crash landings, thankfully with no casualties.
Might add a little more later.

Yes the only difference will be that I will be writing in some choices for characters to make. Present the group with an option at times that will change how the story can play out. It will be semi DM'd all actions you take are your own. |

Well what I do when the GMs not around to answer my question is post two or more scenarios. The first being the one where what I think will happen, and the others being what could happen and my reaction.
I do the same for action-sequences too, to help form a stream of thought and go in-depth when it comes to battle.

That's actually a perfect case for making multiple scenarios. If it shatters, you make a small scenario for that, if it doesn't you make a scenario for that. Something that small usually doesn't affect a whole RP post and would only need five-six sentences worth of explaining what happens if or if not.

No but we respect age and wisdom and show respect to our seniors. Infact many Amarr capsuleers have surgery to make them appear older than they are.
Either way I believe when I made my revision to my characters lore I made him older than he was, and prickly about such matters.
I also think I made him younger than Galm too specifically because he resents that Galm is older but acts like a fool deriding that value the Amarr place on age.

With 150+kg HMG on it.
Without using dropsuit servo motors or other mechatronics...

So the team will be entering through the Noctis salvage ship through an emergency hatch in the cargo hold. The two ships are currently connected by a bridge that will be how the team gets across. No dropship they will be repelling out of a cloaked covert ops cruiser. The cruiser will also act as the command center for the operation. I'll explain it further in a later post. |

Yes sir because of the nature of the mission all drop suits will be sealed with life support systems. Some portions of the ship may be sealed off to space but others will not. Try to avoid getting your suit punctured, or get it repaired first. |

Nice post Roy, I think i hate your character a little bit so congratulations and well done. If Junko responds to your post could you just clean up the end there so it matches up. I like the options you give just clean it up when it gets resolved so its easier to read.
I really wish this forum had a PM system or we could use the Dust mail system without having to login to a PS3, would make some things so much easier. |

When you are in the webpage, go click the Fittings button on the top right, where you can select different fits to view and edit. On the bottom should be a button labeled: "Detailed View", click that. It should then take you to a more detailed view of your fits, where you can change their names, delete or share them. If you click the share button on the fit you want to share, a URL will appear at the bottom of the fitting name. Copy that, and everyone else can view your fit through that link.

I don't like Roy because he is Gallentean..... just how it is going to be. If I don't like Roy....I hate Sergamon because of his constant anti Amarr sentiments on Galnet.
I like Jaques, Ermac, Denak because we worked together well.
I'm ambivalent to Junko and Jester because I don't know they yet.
That's just how my character will be until others to prove they can earn his trust or themselves worthy of his respect in combat. That's just his character.
I'm surprise none of the Min or Gallente RPers haven't even made a comment about about Satja either to her on the sly or directly to me admonishing me for being a terribly human being or some **** like that.

Missing the point yo. It's about knowing the group you're with rather than liking them. Who else knows about Junko falling over and how possible it is that she could mess up in battle? It's actually true in Dust too. You play much better when you know the squad you're working with.
But I won't dig into it deeper OC.

It's the character. Personally, I don't believe he's a drama queen tho. He thinks everyone else is just being assholes. Not let's forget that he was ignored upon initial introduction too. Add that on with what seems like everyone's being distant from each other and he thinks it's a pretty **** team. I honestly do too but I know that you guys must've been able to survive Blood Hunt or whatever so it can't be that.

I wouldn't say that all of us are being distant. I'll have you know that Jacques offered me some free gun lube. That's not the sort of thing you do when you're distant.

And thats exactly why some characters will love Roy Ventus, and some of the more serious or dutiful won't which is a very interesting way to RP.

Denak is also going through a slightly more heated period, normally he wouldn't be bashing people with imrpovised weaponry. :3

And yet Jaques and I have never lost and FW in the same squad.
Look point being you don't need to enter the thread and "unify" us all with a rousing speech as though you know something we don't.
We're all soldiers here. Just be a guy in the squad and try to get to know us. I know these guys already, I have the perfect chance now away from all of this crap to have a chat with CJ before the mission to figure him out, even if I end up disliking his character.
I think the general character feeling is as soldiers we are all equals, as people...some of us are friend, others we have just met....

Combine that with Serg throwing movables at Hawkeye, someone Denak trusts, and he just had enough and vented his anger at the first possible target. It may have ruined his reputation, but that's character development.
I could edit the whole thing too to take the high road, but I'm tired and I'm about to hit the bed. If no reply has come from Sergamon until I've returned, I could retcon the whole thing.

Well sure but the issue is that it seemed like nobody was trying to get to know each other. >.> Remember, Roy was ignored and treated roughly, even by Sergamon, who I would argue has at least made so established relationship with the guy. Edit: He didn't want to have some epic speech to say, "Hey let's work together." He just wanted to get them to open their eyes. /Edit
OoC, for someone who didn't read Bloodhunt and know who was in/doing what, it also seemed that way. Like everyone was so sure of themselves and their independent capabilities instead of trying to work with the others to get to know their capabilities and and whatnot.
The funny part is that even after realizing you guys must've had a Hell of a time over at the Bloodhunt, the characters come off as too arrogant to handle(i'm one to talk) for me. It's not the simple kind of loud arrogance like "Oh I'm better than you," that I'm talking about but a more subtle and dare I say more deadly arrogance that would've remain thoroughly hidden if Roy didn't help flesh it out.

If those touchy subjects are what I think they are, I would imagine Roy not having that much trouble stepping on Kador's toes. The guy doesn't really hold the Gallente to the ultra-patriotic light that many of his people are known for. He knows the Black Eagle are crappy, the executive government would rather terminate him than use him if they could, and how disgustingly hypocritical the people can be.
He doesn't hate the Gallente people but he probably won't argue with Kador's feelings. But yeah, will just have to see.

a logi who ignores a teammate in need because the two are bitter rivals is a bad logi.
this is why Junko ignores the fact that Adamance preaches a religon that praises slavery, why she tolerates other arrogant members of the team;
she has a heavy plate, far heavier than the rest of the team combined because she has to keep them all alive for as long as she possibly can, regardless if they are douches, rivals, enemies etc.

Otherwise...well I mean no disrespect....but I don't really associate with enemies of my people. hah, that brings the friendship meter down a bit Adamance lol the next couple of posts will be Junko trying to connect with the rest of the team via the information she's gathered. hopefully they'll have some common ground with work with here
Precisely.
Kador being what he is doesn't have any friends...besides Denak.
He has brothers and sisters within his Order, he has a family because of duty, but he has so far only one real friend.
If anything you could talk to Satja, she is also and interesting character....if not entirely on par with the rest of us.

I wholly separate my characters and attempt to create as dynamic an interaction between them.... its hard sometimes as I cannot quite convey the relationship they have very well.

And I just have to be frank with you right now, you're a horrible roleplayer. Your character is as bland and dime-a-dozen as one can get with the plain old nightmares-from-past-traumas flaw. On top of that your RP is barely skimming on the edge of IC and reasonable, so overall I recommend you take a good hard look on your RP and improve on it. Honestly said it's crap right now.

In Sergamon's defence, the article he cited said that the foam is available in military-grade forum.
However... The very same article at least implied that said military-grade foam is only found in bomb/rocket forum, which totally nullifies the previous paragraph I just wrote. Irony upon irony.
Then again... It's not irony...
It's closer to being an oxymoron; something along those lines anyway.

Alright, after recalling my memory and skimming through both Blood Hunt and Rabbit Hole, I'll give my general thoughts:
Hawk-eye, I'd say you've nailed your character pretty well. The relaxed attitude your character portrays is done good, and the writing execution is mostly correct aside the occasional slip-up. However, bringing an HMG to a meeting, even a non-functioning one, makes me scratch my head. Those things are incredibly heavy, and impossible to carry without the specialized exoskeleton of a heavy dropsuit, and the whole concept of bringing a weapon for a meeting for any reason is silly to me.
Ermac, your character is done good too in my opinion, although I'm not sure if you're playing him as a Caldari loyalist or a general mercenary. There is still some room for improvement on the writing part too. Lack of punctuation and line breaks makes reading your texts a chore at times,

Post is broken into two (2) sections: for Sergamon (section 1), in reply to Denak (section 2)
SECTION 1:
Sergamon Draco wrote:Ok sorry if i touch your nerve about this, you should try taking care about job and taking care of 2 kids in real life and then try to find time read everything in evelopedia and other places. I never said i am law enforcer/intelligent officer/sisters of eve agent, i just asked you a simple question. Ok i admitt my english grammar could be much better.
You don't need to read all of EVElopedia in order to know most of the stuff he just said. The only plausible part needing such lengthy reading would be the CCP actors part (although a simple search for a single article rather than a full read would make more sense for that)
Also, you may not have said that you are a law enforcer or SoE agent, but:
Sergamon Draco wrote:And denak how do you know that,i am not law enforcer/intelligent officer/sisters of eve agent etc etc
You VERY HEAVILY implied it.
<==={[=== + === + === + * * * + === + === + ===]}===> (Stylish section breaks FTW!)
SECTION 2:
Denak Kalamari wrote:Hawk-eye, I'd say you've nailed your character pretty well. Thanks for that, I feel slightly better about myself. (^v^)
With regards to the HMG in the briefing room, I seriously am looking back at that with the words "what the hell was I thinking" resonating through my noggin'. Could have been me doing a pseudo-metagame when I read about the guns several others had brought.
I'll try to avoid such... Blunders... In future.

Although, there's still room for improvement on your grammar, like capital I when using it as a pronome, and using more puncutations with what you write.
Other that, you're doing good.

We will all be traveling in a single cruiser. It is a Force Recon cruiser so it will be providing all the necessary ewar and scan support we may need. Have Satja on the ship in the command center she will be able to monitor vitals, video feeds through the helmets, and scanning information sent by the drones. |

This is he duty..... nor just a servant but a support unit for Templar's in the field.

glad to hear it. I included it because it also gives me a way of presenting the teams with information in an RP way instead of just stating it. |

Do I? I mean typically she works with Mortals more often than not and only for Kador either rolling his direct comms line or working with wounded soldiers.....but beyond that I am unsure if I am writing her character correctly.

Well...
We kill each other all time time, It's just that we keep coming back
We do care, I mean, if Kador by some freakish accident killed Satja, he wouldn't just be like "meh, I'll get another one", since he seems to have bonded with her on some level.
We can be restrained, it's just very difficult.

It depends..... most Amarrian's are brought to to believe clones are soulless....... a soulless immortal that defies the established laws of God........ one thats physically imposing and 7 feet tall or more kitted out for war.....
Its human...and yet its not, so very alien, but too similar for you to consider it anything my familiar...... and capable of horrific things.....its the base of modern horror.

Although since the update, "Fat Suit" tends to refer to the Gallente heavies, due to how the plates of armour actually look like folds of blubber.

What would the Amarr one be called, if not "fat suit", since it actually looks more streamline and dexterous than some of the others.

What really strikes me is this: "Why is the armour on the Caldari sentential so bulky? It has similar AHP to medium models, just a really big shield. Would have made more sense to have a massive Tesla Coils, lightning rods, and other mad scientist electrical objects.

It has similar AHP to medium models, just a really big shield. Would have made more sense to have a massive Tesla Coils, lightning rods, and other mad scientist electrical objects. I think I can answer that question after observing the desing of the suit, we all know that the caldari favor strong shields and weak armor, instead of weak shields and strong armor like the gallente.
We also know that every Caldari suit only has a rudimentary armor plating to protect the most vital areas, which is the chest shoulders, underarms, hands, crotch, back, chins, legs and the calfs.
Another fact is also that the power source for the suit is on the back which is in the case of the assault suit a e5000 flatcoil fusioncore which results in the very strong shielding which they are known for.
And then do we also know that they use magnetic servos to move these suits.
And this brings me to my theory which can be corrected by anyone because we want to get answers here, is that the heavy has to be so bulky to protect the servos from being damaged in the most sensitive spots, which are there where the armor plates are located.
The plates are only placed upon the suit which itself is very thin. If you look between the plates can you see a material which reminds one of cloth, it could be something like an extremly thin layer of a metal alloy which are, next to the thick caldari steel plates, the only protection for the servos.
And the "Backpack" is of course the most protected part of the suit because in there is most likely an even stronger power source than the e5000 which could result in a rather big explosion if hit or it could just shutdown the suit because this is the main power source of it and try to use servos without energy.
This and the knowledge that the suits have a far stronger exoskeleton than middle- or light frames which means that they can carry far heavier loads of equipment, which makes it logical to place very thick and "bulky" armor plates on these sensitive areas to ensure that the movement won't be easily incapacipated by a shot without armor piercing ammunition after the shield has been powered down.
That and I think the bulky design of the plates could reduce the damage done by projectiles by speading the impact force via the various corners of the plates. Which results that a plate doesn't get that much damaged because the shooter has to be very precise to hit the same corner again to pierce it.
As I said you guys can correct me because I like to do some science stuff. |

While I agree that extra protection may be lent to the servo motors (which would only be found at joints such as hips, knees, shoulders, etc. Possibly one at the spine, but this would be protected by the backpack), this doesn't explain why standard plates are used for areas like the chest and thighs, which would enhance mobility by a significant factor.
Additionally, they could either reverse-engineer some Gallente armour tech, as they have done lots of research on strong lightweight plates, or just borrow some from the Amarr, who also have highly developed armour research (and the father of the original heavy frames); as this would allow much thinner, less bulky plates that offer compatible performance.

I hope I got the right ideas here so. The shield system is at it strongest in the middle of the persons height, which is the area around the chest to the thighs, which makes the armor there just a security measure to protect the wearer from harm if the shield is overloaded and fails.
The chest area is still a very vital spot to hit and because of the height of the suit is it also easy to hit which make this a must to protect part by every way possible. Did you also notice that the chest plates can be easily taken off from the suit? It reminds me of an optional flack jacket.
The thighs are also very easy to hit and it if the heavy get's hit there, could it happen that the heavy is unable to move or moving would become extremly hard with one functioning leg, and you could bleed out because there is a major blood vessel in your legs and if you get hit there is it good bye if you don't have a logi around.
Mobility on the other hand is something that Caldari don't need during a fight, they are experts in long range combat which means that they only need to counter any try of the enemy to outflank them, or every try to break through the Rail fire by forcing them to close quarters fights.
Don't forget that Caldari also want to make some cash with those suits, using gallente armor material on a suit that already has a fusion reactor on it's back is very expensive, and the shipping costs for Amarr plates would be very high if they even want to "borrow" them.
Which means that they would only use material like caldari steel because it's cheap, and they can easily replace it from the suit if it get's damaged by just hooking the destroyed plate off the suit, which reduces the maintenance costs, except for the reactor which is a different story.
So the answer to this question (I think) is, that mobility is ignored by Caldari engineers in favor for better survivability and it's far cheaper to use caldari steel flack jackets to protect the heart and lungs and some rudimentary armor plates around the legs to secure that the legs can't be easily sniped of to immobilize the heavy.
But it is possible to detach the plates and gain more mobility but that would depend on the situation. Well this is my theory don't know if that is worth the space that im using here. |

I'll just note you here that Caldari tech isn't necessarily designed for speed and mobility. In EVE, their ships are the third slowest right before Amarr, while Gallente are second right after Minmatar. Caldari ships rely on hunkering down with their shields and engage their enemies from long ranges, and I would assume this design philosophy applies to DUST as well. Your speculation makes sense from my point of view.
I'll also be writing a post sometime today.

Assuming that the drones are 1/8 of the size, that puts them at about 8.5 m x 7.5 m x 2.5 m. (27 ft x 24 ft x 8 ft)
For scale, the average hue-man is 1.8 m tall.
This guy (the tallest person EVER) reached 2.72 m (8 ft, 11.1 in)
They have a nice height, but...
Those are some pretty wide hallways... unless the width is because the tentacles are all facing horizontally, which would bring the length down to 5m, and the width down to 4m (still a bit cramped though, a good hotel hallway can be between 2.5 and 3.5m in width).

There are also worker drones that are far smaller. Capable of fitting in a humans chest. Also they can easily make drones that are better suited to boarding a ship. Also there could be no drones on this mission at all but the ones we bring. |

Followed by the main ass kick menu of choice of getting in a very hentai-ish situation with a bunch of on board security drones a few meters taller than we are, having a very heated discussion with the local drug dealer pirate thugs with our guns, getting lost forever in this maze like ship or nothing at all except our own paranoia and fears.
And as the dessert do we have that instable wormhole which could trap us forever in an unknown corner of space.

This guy (the tallest person EVER) reached 2.72 m (8 ft, 11.1 in) They have a nice height, but... Those are some pretty wide hallways... unless the width is because the tentacles are all facing horizontally, which would bring the length down to 5m, and the width down to 4m (still a bit cramped though, a good hotel hallway can be between 2.5 and 3.5m in width).
think of them as the drone's we'd never want to meet. so far we only have what i "Gathered". There may be more drones of varying lengths and sizes.

I think that he was using Depleted Uranium rounds (which are radioactive).
As for the using radiation as a marker, I'm not sure. There's lots of radiation-emitting cosmic anomalies in W-space, which may affect the viability of such a technique. Additionally, there may be radioactive material on the vessel itself.
We all have personal computers, we could use those as a map (it would tell us where we ourselves have been, and also give data gathered from other people and drones if said data can be received).
Also, we could just shoot a wall 3 times, making a triangle pointing in some direction.

Still do we just need something that is above the sorrounding radiation, something that is strong enough to give the counter a spike. Like radioactive tracers that they use in modern medicine but in bigger quantities.
And the 3 shoots are to obvious and could also happen during a shoot out which would make everything more confusing. |

Let me make that clear with what I meant with the personal computer. You will have a map of all the places you have seen, but not of the places the others have seen because we can't transfer our information because of the signal.

Yeah, basically.
I was under the assumption that we could download the map of what we have onto our suit computer; and we could add to it automatically as we explore (like any free roam RPG, like Oblivion or Skyrim).
Additionally, the command ship has very powerful transmitters, so they could send a strong signal to us with some extra telemetry and stuff.
Since the command ship also presumably has some danmm good scanners, we should be able to track each other

So the scout recon ship is capable of scanning without alerting drones, and can send out probes for better scanning of certain areas, but it is made to scan things the size of ships. Inside the ship we will be sending out active scanner drones that will map out the area, provide us with intel and all that fun stuff. The map will be updated as we explore with the support team providing us with info on what our scanner drones find. No need to physically mark our way. |

Not a problem ask questions and I'll answer them if I can or we will figure it out as a group. As far as extra ammo the combat drones that will be taking will have extra ammo for us but what I would like to try to do is set up rally points with ammo caches to fall back to as we move deeper into the ship. And give us a point to regroup. |

Well, since I have got a posted slot in the RP (even if it is [REDACTED]), I might as well fill it up with some brain juice.
I'll think of summin'.

Yeah don't force yourself to write it just makes in un-enjoyable. I'll post up in the next two days moving the story along with who we have.
And Ermac which origin story were you going to write the one of them becoming an immortal or their human origin? Whichever you choose as long as it is well written it doesn't matter if it's unoriginal almost all things are unoriginal at this point. Take something old or tried and true and put a little spin on it. |

Thats the issue I am having....Dust really isn't appealing right now...... forcing myself to write about it is impossible without getting garbage Mary Sue comments or descriptions.

Yeah that's understandable, no point in doing something if you don't enjoy it. I'll keep your character open as long as I can if you feel like rejoining. |

I was going for the human origin because the backstory that I worked out in my head is rather important for my character in my opinion because life doesn't begin with becoming immortal it's just another part of it.
The immortal part would then begin during the Caldari Prime campaign.
I would do it in the way that I tell the story via "doc" his psychiatrist, who reviews her recordings with Ermac during the therapy and tries to find a way to trigger a specific memory from him which he buried inside his subconcious. |

I'd like to remind you that even in the speediest of circumstances, the whole Legion project isn't going to be released for another year or two. DUST is still going to have a full development team working on it from what I can tell, and we still don't have all the details, there's still two days of Fanfest keynotes and streams left to do. Am I pissed? Yes I am, but I will still give CCP the benefit of doubt and keep playing to see what happens afterwards.
So please, don't make hasty conclusions and abandon ship instantly, at worst DUST is still going to have another year of support and updates. I liked where this is going, and I'll try to contact everyone involved on this RP to gather again, we still got work to do and I'm determine to see this thing finished.

It's quite ironic when you think about it...
We came here to be immortal...
But one day, soonGäó, one of three things will happen:
1.) During on ordinary day's job, we don't wake up.
2.) We'll be marched down a biomass line, our claws and wings clipped; the last thing we see the operator, in his misty, glass enclosed booth.
3.) Somehow, we wont be killed by this.
Remind me where the hell Arkombine are.

I have been thinking of starting this back up again if there is any interest left. I have been going back and forth between continuing the current story or starting a new one. If any of the former participants are still active and interested let me know. Also let me know if you would like to continue the current story or if you would like to begin a new chapter. |
