o7 Fellow Scouts. Many of us have been playing Dust on hard mode for more than 1 year at this point. We've stayed true to the way of the scout and endured the wrath of the Mass Driver, the TacAR, Scrambler Rifle spam, and now, of course, Rail Rifle and Combat Rifle wielding heavy suits (because that's fair, right?). Come 1.8, some of our concerns - nay - almost all of our concerns are being addressed. Unfortunately, our new shiny suits will now, for the first time since Chromosome attract the average Joe Schmo just looking for a high kill count. You know the type. FotM players - players addicted to the mild dopaminergic high emanating from their nucleus accumbens that they get from "owning" some new player in a militia fit while safely in their sentinel ak.0 with 1400 eHP and a Kaalakiota RR. I don't like these people. And their coming for our new suits.
Thus, I propose a "True Scout" Grace Period. 1 Week after the release of 1.8 in which the true scouts get to bask in the glory of their finally balanced awesomeness. 1 Week in which the try hards stay at home and the true scouts can enjoy the bliss of curbstomping those proto logis of Uprising updates past.

If any of them complain that the scouts are underpowered after 1.8 I will stab them so hard like Chucky on crack. And anyone calling for a nerf on scouts after that should be ignored because they don't consider the fact that usually it's a professional scout that kills them most of the time.

I openly morn the loss of the 1.7 scout.
By bye my beloved hard-mode, the riff-raff is moving into the neighborhood.
I may have to switch to using light frames or even militia light frames so the game doesn't loose it's taste for me. Even thinking about the unwashed masses soiling the scout suit gives me the heebs.
Keep your 1.8, CCP. Keep your stupid cloak. But most of all, keep your new scrambler pistol stats.

Yup, my concern too. Also, hopefully cloak won't have some mechanic that can be abused that will bait the FoTM chasers. No doubt the idea of cloaks are gonna attract some tourists - which is fine as long as they go back where they came from eventually...
I've said before - tryhards won't have the patience to run scout when you have sentinels and commandos to choose from (the more short sighted ones will stick with slayer logis...).
If they rely on cloaks they are gonna fail to get the kills/KDR that makes their OPness feel all tingly.

It's not scout on 'scout' that is the problem for me. Current scouts know a lot of blues don't understand how scouts work and fall for basic scouty tactics over and over...
I've even had to explain to my own squad, things like why I'm not moving directly with them when they attack that heavily defended point from the front (the fact you are logi with reps doesn't help me as much as you think...).
With buffs and cloaks, your average FoTM /newbro scout will manage to get some 'annoying/cheap' kills in - add in the old scouts who can top leaderboards already - your average forum QQer who loses their pro-suit once too often to REs, shotguns and NK, will suddenly label scouts OP/Scrubby and the nerf whine will begin.
I mean I remember being in a non-scout squad, the reds had a scout squad - between REs and ninja NK/Shotgun kills the city points were locked down. I tried explaining to my squad - we need to flux points and have someone cover the hacker. They can see us (...them) on passives relatively easily and we won't see them on our radar - we have to assume they are always ready to strike at us...oh and don't chase them around corners...
The responses I got?
'Thats ******* cheap...'
'Wait - so they will just hide until we have our backs to them? Gaaaay'
'****! That guy is just running up to people and knifing them!' 'I know right - I mean learn some ******* gun game'
'******* cheap ass ************ just knifed me, same cheap ass ************ who got me with that remote - ******* scrubs abusing broken ****!'
And that is now before the buffs we've been waiting for. I fully expect to receive hatemail about cloaks even if I wasn't using them.
The tryhards wont have the nerve to stick with it, but they may **** off other tryhards enough to cause detrimental QQ.
People hate what they don't understand.

And that's the problem I have with QQers these days. I just call them "nerf herders". If they don't understand it, they want it nerfed. I just hope to dear sweet baby Jesus that CCP has the balls to just ignore those QQers this time and just let the scouts enjoy their buff for once in our lives.
Some guy once told me that if scouts like me are already that good, it's because the scout suits are fine as it is. But I disagreed. It's not that the suits are fine. Far from it, the suits that we have now are currently gimped until 1.8 comes out. It's the very fact that these suits were so gimped that scouts like me got good with it. We were forced to adapt in ways we didn't expect to adapt.
Try being a master of fighting someone with one hand tied behind your back, blindfolded, with one leg missing and you're being constantly pelted with paint balls. Eventually you will get good at it as you work around your weaknesses and enhance your other senses, but you're still limited because you're tied, blinded, have only one leg and paint balls are being shot at you like a bad scene from Jackass.
And now, finally we're free to use both hands, remove the blindfold, have both legs, and not be able to effectively dodge those pesky paint balls because we have been heavily trained and conditioned to do so. Anyone who assumes the scouts will be OP at that point just simply lacks the understanding that's not the suit that makes us OP but our experience.

I say let's have all the scout masters take a week-long break at the beginning of 1.8 and watch all the FoTM players complain that scouts are useless and see the assault/logi/sentinal/commandos point out how easy it is to still kill scouts. Then we all come in at the end of the week and start showing everyone how the pros do it.

As infantry, I pretty much only snipe and scout. Scouting will still be real fun, since I doubt most FotM chasers will be playing the role intelligently, and if these suits end up getting spammed by lamers, I still have my trusty charge SR to OHK them from across the map!
That's one thing that's unchanged by the nerf to damage mods: my sniper fit will still one-shot any scout, unless they're a proto stacking duel-tank mods. So I say, bring 'em on!

I'm not sure about you're profile, but then again hiding is not the Amarr scout's specialty. And if you're going with the Precision enhancer, you can take advantage of that by replacing either the kin cat or profile dampener with a range amplifier. Considering that the Amarr suit seems like the bastard child of the entire scout line up, I'll need more research into this.

*Bows* This is far more than I was expecting. My plan is to use the stamina boost to the fullest and buffing sprint speed for a dual bonus. Profile dampening will help with unskilled or unequipped foes. Range amplification will be buffed passively as well. As I said in a previous post, I plan on testing all standard level scouts to find my niche and this is the main area of focus. I greatly appreciate this post

We'll, I'm no scout expert really. I'm dedicated to the role, but I'm still a scrub (but I'm trying to be the best scrub out there!). I refuse to use anything above a standard scout suit these days - just not worth getting merked for no reason. I also rarely tank my suits at all. I go for full mobility or scanning. I'm simply a purist.
That being said, I have to say the Amarr scout was shafted a bit. If the stamina bonus were higher (such that at level 5 their bonuses equalled a complex reg, much like the way the other scouts basically get implicit complex modules) it would actually be the perfect suit, because you could run about 400 m with complex kin cats, you could jump for ages and you'd generally own. That being said, I agree with most that the Amarr Assault will probably be best as a light assault with a cloak. Maybe 2 armor plate, a green a red and two shield mods - we'll tanked, but still mobile and stamina up the wazoo to make up for your slightly slower speed. Then your cloak will probably be your best friend for direct confrontation (another thing CCP could do to balance the Amarr scout would be to give them either a cool down bonus for the cloak or let them use it for an extended period - the latter matches very well with the suit's journeyman feel) |

If I recall correctly the Duvolle Quantum Scanner (25 second scanner) is 24 or 25dB. You would want to get an Enhanced Profile dampener (minimum) in order to beat this scanner. It is proto level and lasts the longest. The only other scanner that will be able to pick you up would be the Flux scanner at something like 15dB. So definitely (if anything) get the adv profile dampener so you can beat this scanner (right now it's the most used though things may change after 1.8).

It's fine to use the scout for that role.......though you're missing the beauty of the suit. Scouting is a mindset if you ask me. Seriously, I started playing this game last march and I can count the number of times I've used other suits on my right hand (exaggerating obviously, but still). I and others continued to persever despite our glaring disadvantages in both close and long range combat. Eventually it came to the point that the only way to be a competitive scout was to brick tank - thus defeating the purpose of the suit altogether. |

Yeah, you have the mindset for scout, I've been a born and raised Logistics since January 2013! It's a very difficult practice to break away from, I only supplement my deficiencies (killing) with adding some versatility such as faster uplinks at the start! lol

By no means have I endured hard mode as long as some of the scouting greats (such as he whom I've just quoted ) but I finally tried the scout about 5 or 6 months ago and realised it's what I should've picked back in Open Beta. I'm just worried that QQers will get Scouts nerfed shortly after the love they've needed for so very long.
I'm nowhere near master yet, but I'm all for this.
I already have a blast showing people that their EHP means nothing to me. Can't wait to show the FOTM crowd how the Scout suit is supposed to be used. |

I don't think super assault scout will be any good unless you have all the "scout skills" up. I haven't tried to fit it yet in game, obviously, but I'm pretty sure if I tank out my Gal scout, even accounting for one more low and high slots. It will be about the speed of my minmatar assault with a little less EHP. So I'll probably still have an assault version of gal scout along with my regular scout fit, basically so I can either armor tank assault (gal scout), shield tank assault (min assault), or play "true scout" with my gal scout.
Most tankers are like sand people. They frighten easily, but will quickly return...and in greater numbers.
