The corporation is the same as a clan right? Are there ranks? Should I just jump in one and make it work? I have received a few invites to join. What should I consider when looking for a clan? I am really impressed by the team work I have seen in this game. Even the guys that just run around killing everybody seem to feed of each other. What is a good way to decide where to go? I am loyal by nature so I would love to get it right the first time.

Teamwork makes the dream work; if you want to get stomped into the ground repeatedly, don't join a corp.

Some people are going to tell you it's critical. I run solo and I like it that way. Sometimes I'll squad with some corporations via their public chat channels, but that's about it. The best way to figure out if one is right for you is just to join and see how it goes, or squad with them for a while. |

Almost, there are a few and minor differences but in the end it's basically the same, you have friends/corp mates who stick with you and battle with you till "death." If you want to succeed in this game, going into a corp is a very important step, if you're new, DUST U is good for them but many of the other good corps have auxiliaries for rookies which are not bad at all either. I would obviously recommend WarRavens Auxiliary but it's up to you.

I have been using the squad finder it is very helpful. Having a headset gets me renown. I am making contacts and anyone I can learn from I put in the watch list, I haven't found another purpose for it.

yup, same as a clan. no ranks but there are different roles.
My advice would be to ask someone in a corp If they have a public chat channel. join a few of those and find a group of people you click with. Molon Labe's channel is "sandcastles"

Actually, chat channels are more important than a corp, but a corp will get you with a bunch of players that know about the game and will help you find more chat channels.
I'm not in a corp, but I'm in probably 7-8 good channels with great players that make the game that much more fun. Most of them are just public channels of bigger corps. Getting into good squads is probably the most important thing to do when you first start out because then you at least have other players who you can communicate with and stick with while in battle.
For instance "Darkstar Army" is a good one to start out with. Just hit select and go down to add/find chat channel and type it in. You'll then have joined that channel and can start putting up "lfs" messages in there when you want to squad with other players.

if you want to have any type of enjoyment in the game you will want to get into a corp. Even if you don't want "competitive" play, simply having a bunch of guys to always group with makes the game enjoyable, as you can rage together. That said, there are tons of corps out there.
It then depends on where you are comfy and; pardon saying, your skill level. Like someone said, if a corp has a "recruit" corp, you can definitely try them out and see if you like the people there. However, if some corps don't have that, one "req" they have is player skill/ability.
The better/top corps you'd hope/want to be in (pending region) are: AE, STB, RND, FA, TP, WTF, NS, ML . But as said, their are tons of corps, just gota decide where wana be

It really does come down to you deciding what it is SPECIFICALLY you want to do in this game as a whole. Believe me, remaining Independent/Unincorporated is a lot more work in a lot of ways than being corp'd. Although, any existing corp you join will have its own baggage you will then be liable for, and all employment history stays with you so if/when you start jumping corps to find that "perfect fit", your past affiliations may still hurt (or help) you. ^ What he says, for the reason he says. And also, you have no idea what sort of tomfoolery your toon engaged in prior to your assuming it. If you're new, create from new, be new and learn from step one. DUST514 is very much like a long-division problem, make a mistake early on and it won't matter how correct your arithmetic is in the following steps, the final answer will still be wrong.

While clans do have some resemblance with corporations in EVE and DUST, they are quite different. In most clans, like in MMORPGs, FPSs and other games, what drives people together is socializing, better performance and ways to learn more easily. These all apply to corporations as well, but here, especially in EVE, the stakes are much higher.
Corporation members work together to complete goals and make a profit for themselves, much like a real corporation. Your assets can be stolen if you're too trusting, and is completely acceptable in DUST and EVE. This is why people are slower to trust new recruits in EVE and DUST. If you're not careful, that new guy who you put to replace yourself as the CEO could disband the corp and steal all the ISK and other assets you had stored in your cor+¦oration hangars and wallets.
Trust is an extremely valuable commodity here, and even moreso in EVE. More often than not it can take a long screening of your employment history, wallet transactions, standings and other things before a corporation will even consider letting you on their corporation, much less give you access to valuable assets like POSes and corporation hangars. If something doesn't add up in your history, they'll most likely decline your application.
For granted, none of this really applies to DUST in its current state, but some DUST corps with EVE affiliations can take a screening of your history to determine how trustworthy you are, keep that in mind.
And the only ranks a corporation has are the ones they themselves set. With these ranks you can gain access to various different things, like corporation wallets, Planetary Conquest district management and application processing.
Most good corps seek loyalty in their members. If you jump from corp to corp every few days, no good corp will hardly accept you because your employment history shows that you have no loyalties. I'd recommend you take some thought in what corporation you are going to join, as it might have ripple effects months from now. Take a look into the corporation recruitment forum and see what fits you the best.

The real thrust if this thread is that if you engage yourself with the players you will have more fun no matter if you join a corp or not. The key to this game is not caring about the little things. Try to have fun, do things you like with people you like and the game is a ton of fun but if you get into the grind mentality and in the SP chase then burnout is a big problem. DUST is a slow burn game and knowing that will help. Make friends and have fun because it is a game.

Currently you are in an NPC corp, and because of that your record is more or less clean. When you send an app into a corp, typically the application director will look up your in game stats and your employment history to make sure, or at least try to make sure, that your not a spy from another corp.
Your "name" is more or less clean. And honestly, unless your within the games top 10% your name probably wont matter. If you want to know people who are noteworthy, take a look at the leaderboards for kills, the top 100 or so people are people that are more or less respected community members. Unless their name looks Japanese and their k/d also happens to be over 7, because then there probably just tank spamming
Reputation is important though, take me for example, ive been around for two years now and theres a few people who recognize me. Im NOT famous, but I am recognized at the very least.
Honestly, you should just look into getting into a corp for the sake of getting into a corp. If you don't want to worry about "tarnishing your name" then just join Dust University. They'll teach the ropes of the game at least. If you don't care about picking a side and potentially (potentiallyyyyy) harming your name you can look into getting inside of some of the mega-corps like mine for example.
STB, Fatal absolution, Ancient Exiles, War ravens, any of the corps in negative feedback alliance. Ect..... The only reason joining any of those corps is a problem is because by choosing one, your basically picking a side due to the high tensions between two of the in games more powerful/dangerous alliances.
But meh, do your research and you'll figure it out!

I don't think being in a corp. is important for a new guy, but what makes the game better is to be able to squad up, and if you make friends that you regularly squad up with then so much the better. I would go to the recruitment threads and get public channels and randomly squad up with people and if you like them then get their channel. After that you can figure out what corp. you want to go with. I joined a corp. but I ended up squadding most of the time with other people.
How do YOU pronounce corp? Core or corp? I think the correct one is corp, but I switch back and forth.
Because, that's why.
