While clans do have some resemblance with corporations in EVE and DUST, they are quite different. In most clans, like in MMORPGs, FPSs and other games, what drives people together is socializing, better performance and ways to learn more easily. These all apply to corporations as well, but here, especially in EVE, the stakes are much higher.
Corporation members work together to complete goals and make a profit for themselves, much like a real corporation. Your assets can be stolen if you're too trusting, and is completely acceptable in DUST and EVE. This is why people are slower to trust new recruits in EVE and DUST. If you're not careful, that new guy who you put to replace yourself as the CEO could disband the corp and steal all the ISK and other assets you had stored in your cor+¦oration hangars and wallets.
Trust is an extremely valuable commodity here, and even moreso in EVE. More often than not it can take a long screening of your employment history, wallet transactions, standings and other things before a corporation will even consider letting you on their corporation, much less give you access to valuable assets like POSes and corporation hangars. If something doesn't add up in your history, they'll most likely decline your application.
For granted, none of this really applies to DUST in its current state, but some DUST corps with EVE affiliations can take a screening of your history to determine how trustworthy you are, keep that in mind.
And the only ranks a corporation has are the ones they themselves set. With these ranks you can gain access to various different things, like corporation wallets, Planetary Conquest district management and application processing.
Most good corps seek loyalty in their members. If you jump from corp to corp every few days, no good corp will hardly accept you because your employment history shows that you have no loyalties. I'd recommend you take some thought in what corporation you are going to join, as it might have ripple effects months from now. Take a look into the corporation recruitment forum and see what fits you the best.
