You don't get it. You have a right to complain, but there is a fine line between filing a complaint and just outright bothering the devs. What the OP suggests is bothering the devs when clearly they already know what we want.

When customers are upset they complain. When they are very upset they will complain louder or stop giving their business to the company in question.
I'll leave it up to CCP: would you like the players to be loud and demanding or would you like us to disappear?

I look at it this way...
For every second a dev has to take their time to respond to a repeat thread (this is a repeat thread btw) of the same topic that was addressed already by another dev not too long ago, is every second not spent working on game to improve it or at least every second not spent putting together the dev blog. If you want the Dev Blog out sooner rather than later, then please stop bothering the devs over it and let them finish it.

No. The company, which is paying them gets probably very little from you people. So acting entitled to being a douche, when your putting pennies in their paycheck and then expecting them to bow to your wishes because of the few pennies you gave them is stupid.

You aren't entirely untrue, but I submit a rebuttal:
If I told my customers that I will have something done soon(TM). That I will be updating them, but I will not be telling them WHEN I will be updating them. Well, I'd be written up (or fired if this was a reoccurring problem) and I'd have no idea to blame but myself.

Not seeing your point on this one. They can continue to develop on their timelines (Soon(TM)), but we need to be updated more often if they are going to take their sweet time. If a project takes three months you don't just leave your customers in the dark during that time. That's a ****** policy, I don't care what your company policies might have been until now.

Technically, from a business POV, yes. A paying customer is more valuable than a customer that isn't paying. As a business owner, I would pay closer attention to the person shelling out $20/month than the person paying me $0/month.

Counter-point: If you did tell them WHEN and WHAT and were unable to meet the aforementioned deadline due to, oh I don't know, your staff quitting or a production clusterduck like having a machine break and parts take two weeks to get, how happy do you think they'd be?

First, why do people like posts like this? Makes me shake my head.
Second, I honestly could care less about dev blogs, just look at the last one they just gave us for the quality we are going to get.
The real issue is that the dev blogs are supposed to come out a few weeks before the release. Given it's Feb 26th and last ETA was mid February to mid March I'm definitely concerned about the next release.
I truly can not stand the horrible state that CCP has left this build in for the last 3 months. I'll say this, it might not be the real developers fault (hell, there could just be a couple of them actually doing work) but blame should definitely be placed on the design team (balance the **** you make) and on management for limiting the transparency that CCP gives to us poor sods in the community.
The mic bubble bug... I yield, CCP will be fixing it SOON. Current ETA 1 year since bug

If a project takes three months you don't just leave your customers in the dark during that time. That's a ****** policy, I don't care what your company policies might have been until now. If your a Community Manager, I think you would prefer the forums as least acidic as possible.
Hey, think about it like this. If you stop freaking the **** out and raging and spamming hate threads about when they mess a thing up, then maybe they might think about letting you know a timeline. But if that continues, I seriously think your just going to get the same answer over and over.

The customer would be upset, yes. Build risk buffers into your project plan. Parts might be late? Add two days. Mechanical failure? Add a week. If you deliver earlier than the projected date no one will be upset.

Good, so you do understand it.
The crap part is communication/transparency between us and CCP is....lacking. Because patience and understanding are clearly something we don't have.
Which leads to us arguing semantics on the eff'in forums.
I agree that this 'mums the word' de facto policy has got to go, but I understand why spamming the forums for info is bad (read signature) so I'll just smile and nod, like the rest of us end up doing.
And wait.
And wait.
And omg, PLAY THE GAME.
And wait.
Does waiting suck? Yes Should we be waiting? prolly not. Is that going to change? not until they get some work done.

Exactly. I use to work for a manufacturing company as a parts procurement guy. Those parts were for building missiles and satellites in Brazil. Often times, despite management telling me to hurry the frakk up, I had to tell management something to the effect of the following every now and then even for a part that's on rush.
"Sorry, but the chip we need has an estimated lead time of greater than 5 weeks to manufacture even under rush delivery and there are no other sources available (not even from China). That missile is going to have to wait and so will your client."
NOTE: When a manufacturer posts an unreasonably long lead time on a part, that's code for "we don't know when it's ready to be honest with you."

I agree with the content of your post, I just trimmed it for brevity.
I do want to respond to this part specifically because I can certainly sympathize with the people who are getting frustrated with the current method of establishing a verbal roadmap.
There are many parts of this game that have no timeframe, let alone an unreasonably long one. Without any sort of time reference, it is really difficult to be angry with CCP for not meeting deadlines, simply because there are no deadlines.
Not that I am upset about this, I long ago resolved my internal conflicts with the realities of CCPs methods of production.
I will say this though:
When the only people who are content with the development schedule are people who have essentially given up on this game being good any time soon, that is a horribly caustic environment to create within your community.
I am consistently advising people to reduce their expectations of CCP, so as to save themselves the frustration of disappointment. If cynicism is the default in all your long term users, then something is clearly wrong.
I feel bad for people who think that this game is going to take some sudden leap forward. That alone should speak volumes, but maybe I am just to much of a skeptic to be a productive member of this community.
Tinfoil hat time:
CCP does not want to provide any sort of accurate guesstimates for when features may be ready because if portions of this community were to find out that feature x that they are waiting desperately for will not be released for x months/years there might be an exodus of players.
Really though, it is just easier and more accurate to blame gross incompetence on the part of the previous EP, and hope that if you give Rouge a couple of more months then we might see a proper set of goals and timelines. That hope is completely irrational, and I do not advice anyone to put anything more than a spec of hope into a solid turn around on this project.

Lowering our expectations is something us Eve Online players have gotten use to. Just look at the captain's quarters for instance. No one knows when CCP will finally open that damn door for once and so far CCP has been pretty mum about it. In fact, many Eve Online players just want that CQ to just shut down and go back to ship spinning for the rest of our lives.

Well, at least it's a hell lot better than EA's culture. Lie to your investors about the profit potential of BF4 and convince them to buy your shares at $60 a piece only to see a hit in profits after release and suffer a share price drop from $60 to $22 a share followed by a complete investigation by a third-party law firm.

This is incorrect - They hire people to monitor and talk to those 3000 people on progress, changes etc.
I am sure those same people sit in meetings and get updated or at least have informal discussions about whats happening. They can then get the go ahead from management to let the 3000 people know what the situation is.
Please stop with these misleading characterizations. If CCP wanted to let people know stuff they could. The speed at which they work and produce content is laughable.

CCP hires people to read the forums and give summaries of what was said? Because what I am saying is that if was treated just like we treat them at his job it would be different. Lets say that he has to put together a chair and when he gets to work he has to sit through a meeting telling him what kind of chair to make and then goes to work. After about 30 minutes of building the chair he has to respond to customers or be insulted. More chair work and lunch. Then he has to go sit in another meeting or his customers say he isn't listening to them. Work on the chair some but then he has to go sit in the last version of the chair or the customers say he never uses what he is selling. Try and work on the chair some more only to have to test it in every way conceivable before letting it out the door. All while trying to give exact details on what he is doing and why also while providing an unbreakable timetable.
The last person they hired for that, the way I understand it, was let go a while ago. Pretty sure she was supposed to do community stuff. They may have some moderators but I don't think they have a hired staff that goes through all this. I may be wrong but I don't think they hire people for the forums. I don't know what you people want from them. They do things their way because it works for them, get over yourselves and play the stupid game. They listen to our input and try to do their best to deliver the content we want. I can guarantee that within one day of patch notes people will be talking about how broke it is and how they are stupid and don't listen. I will also say that within one day of the actual content release people will be asking for details on the next patch. I think that is a little bit impatient, don't you? It is like taking kids on a long car ride, you guys just wont' STFU and act like big boys.

You can be critical to CCP if you like. I'm sometimes critical too especially on the nova knives and scout suits, but I don't go out and be a genitalia about it. I post my criticism in the most meaningful and constructive way possible. Just take a look at JudgeRhadamansus' critique on dropships and redline rail tanks. His video on YouTube was so well thought out and detailed that CCP responded to it and said that the video is excellent and being forwarded to the appropriate dev team.
Now compare that to a rant or just general douche baggery. Almost no response for those except maybe a lock by the GM.

Well then we're screwed. We want Dev Blogs so we can see updated stats and give further feedback, not just so we can marvel at their creation.
If they come out a week before, which is the same time as patch notes, then the patch is locked. Feedback then falls on deaf ears.
Remember after 1.8 we have at LEAST 2 months until a new patch because of fanfest. A poor 1.8 will likely sink the ship even further. You can't have great announcements at fanfest when your game is in a terrible state.
CCP needs to get 1.8 right, we as a community WANT to help. Instead we are left out in the cold. |

CCP Logibro wrote:There will be dev blogs in time, but please don't spam the forums with topics asking for them. We know you want them, we want to give you them, but we don't want to give them to you until they're done and ready. every time theres a dev blog we later hear about all devs being asked what they are doing and then at the last minute two or three things are seleted from the entire pile
instead select two or three things from the GET GO instead of at the last minute to make the Dev Blog
still waiting for the feedback forum to be organized into specific subforums i.e. weapons , suits, vehicles , etc.
thanks

Between replying to the shitposts on the forums, and community tickets, and technical support, and then relaying all the important **** to the Devs that are working on the game, the Community Devs don't exactly have a fuckton of time to write a long Dev blog that tells you what you demand. Being a CCP apologist doesn't get them off their ass, keeping their feet to the coals will. And this is why the vast majority of developers don't seem to interact very often with their communities. The communities are full of assholes. So calling the devs out for information is being an *******? Good one. Until the devs give us solid data on a consistent basis and actually try to discuss changes with us (even through the CPM, I don't care what the interface is so long as there is an actual dialogue) I will continue to demand accountability for a game I've paid money for and would like to do again in the future. As it is, I stopped playing after the 'mouse overhaul' ruined my gaming experience and refuse to play without proper mouse support.
Throwing a man a bone for a well-thought out idea is not the same thing as being critical of the process and demanding CCP do better.

Maybe we could get a Dev Blog on the process of creating a Dev Blog post? ...This is now day 42 of the 1.8 Dev Blog compilation process, each paragraph has passed all pre-release executive review milestones, and I'm in the process of writing the notice of intent to publish for the final draft! Soon!

Um, I said a well thought out critique, not an idea. Read my post again.
What Judge Rhadamanthus posted on the issue with the redline rail tanks is not an idea. It's a well-thought CRITICISM of the problem faced by dropship pilots. If you notice he didn't go out of his way to make any demands. He let the video show the problem first and then made a few recommendations while still keeping the issue front and center but in a professional and concise way. That's how you help CCP develop the game further.
Demands however are a completely different animal from constructive criticism.
