Look at this! So much of this looks better than the DUST we have now!
It's more colorful, the minimap is better, the effects are better, view bobbing, sound effects (remember when grenades hit near you and you went deaf for a bit?).
How did this happen?
CCP, drop everything, get your entire team into a single room, and just watch videos of the old DUST and take notes of what was better.

That's what happens when you keep presenting what you'd like to do rather than what you can do. CCP has turned that into a fine art and that has bitten them on the ass more and more.

That was all probably done on and shown from internal dev kits which then couldn't pass Sony's QA cause it would be too hard on consumer consoles. |

LOL, dude, this was Replication build - following Crater Lake. This was August - September 2012ish. I started playing closed beta in June 2012, this isn't some internal dev kit. THIS WAS ON THE PS3 ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO.

Especially on the best maps. Is it the Gallente Research Facility with the objective in the missile tunnel / silo thing that can be orbital'ed. That map ALWAYS grinds to a halt. Average FPS i would guess is less than 20 for sure.
CCP please optimise the game, we need consistent 30+fps unless everything is hectic then of course its understandable that a years old PS3 will not handle that. However when my frame rate drops to those levels on a regular basis - its time you guys did some more optimising. |

Meh. I'm not a fan of 60 FPS. If there's an option to cap the frame-rate to 30 FPS, sure. Just saying, Titanfall is great and all but good lord is there a lot going on. Looks jerky and just generally nauseating.

A good computer makes that game sing. Its truly amazing.. a good example of how to separate mechanical units and infantry based with allowing them good competition with one another when they cross.
It's the mobility that does it ultimately for me.. The ability to create fast based gameplay by knowing your movement limitations well.
I can be competitive just moving around and ninja kicking people in the face. Absolutely a blast and has like no content and its still amazing. |

Graphically, Beyond: Two Souls, The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid: 3.... All games with gorgeous detail.
Faster-paced gameplay with graphical elements: Vanquish, Resident Evil 5/6 (even though I hate the direction they took), Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Then you have games that lack in the graphical department but excel in other areas like Metal Gear: Rising, Skyrim and Prototype.
Point is, a game can go in all different directions and still be good. Whether it's superior graphics with not a lot of stuff going on on screen or a game that focuses more on huge amounts of items/animations/sounds, etc. It's entirely possible for a game of Dust 514's stature to excel in the visual department with enough optimization but as we've already seen they've had to make a -lot- of cut-backs on the graphics department just to get the game running at a half decent speed (albeit, I blame Unreal for that).
To name a few effects that saw cut-backs: RDVs, repair tools, mass driver effects, scrambler pistol tracers.
But then we have the real problem (in my eyes) in that, since I started in June 2012, the game has been steadily -losing- content. Marauder/Black Ops/Enforcer HAVs, Logistics Dropships, Logistics/Scout LAVs, various effects, corp battles, 3D starmap, real-time mini-map, HUD bob, explosive deafening, all sorts of stuff has been removed from the game and has yet to return. Alas, we have people saying "Remove the Flaylock pistol! It's useless!" and "Remove PC until it's fixed!" and I can't help but wonder how long this removal frenzy is going to go on before we realize that we have nothing left to play.

Yeah, WTF is up with this?
/me shrugs
There's a few things I can understand. Graphical/sound removals come at the price of introducing new stuff into the game because both are very memory intensive (sound especially). Content on the other hand... I have no idea. I've seen a few backdrops and map designs that looked pretty fleshed out and ready to go that either never made it in game or simply faded away (Caldari Prime titan backdrop, for instance, will probably never be seen again).
I'm sure by now CCP has realized that they need to focus more on re-usable assets for the sake of budget (no sense in having someone develop something that'll only be used once) but looking at Dust's history as a reminder certainly can't hurt. This is primarily why whenever someone says "Remove 'x'! It's broken!" I get a little riled up. I've seen far too many things get removed from this game that were just generally ****ing awesome to sit here and just let the 'community' advocate more of it.

My HDD worked so hard it started to come loose and rattle before I took the PS3 apart to tighten the mounts.
Sometimes you'd get stuck with the spinning circle of doom and have to quickly open the leaderboards because anything else you tried would freeze the game.

There are a lot of days I'd have those problems again if I could get the old gameplay back. And don't give me any of that "rose colored glasses" **** either. I liked the game more back then than I do now and I have a very good memory of exactly what it was like.

Good God, CCP, what is wrong with you? How many times over the past two years has the community asked you to communicate with us?
We are the ones that have stayed, lasted, persisted through all of the glacially slow development and on again off again 'progress'
And we have asked and pleaded with you constantly to quit with your Black Box approach to information exchange.
Why won't you communicate with your playerbase? What is it you think you'll lose by telling us how it's going, what you are working on, what you are planning?
Please don't give us that BS about marketing and stupid FanFest reveals. Everyone can clearly see that you are no where close to ' on pace ' or on target with this game. There is no marketing push. There is no playerbase growth.
What would go wrong if you told us what is on your ' roadmap'?
Are you concerned that if you fail to meet a deadline or fall short of our lofty expectations we will leave??

While I liked the general direction of DUST much better then, it has considerably improved in terms of hard locks and disconnecte. I will give CCP that.
As for the "MMOFPSRPG"... Yeah... An "FPS" with a few RPG elements... Almost no MMO...
Gameplay is a yawn, improvement is turtle slow, I just stopped caring almost a full year ago. Played religiously during beta, but the past year has just destroyed any interest. I can't get past the basic pervasive repetitive boredom to play enough to care about the community, which is the only thing that really holds most of you in this game...
Also, don't put on the rose tinted glasses for the PS4 and Carbon engine. First off the carbon engine is basically the engine handling character creation, for all intents and purposes they said it was ill suited to FPS development on console. I would rather they built an engine from scratch or at least heavily modified than used Unreal, and I think most of you are looking at the Carbon Engine as some kind of holy grail when it was probably a broken teacup...
Second 4K is completely dumb to even consider making games in, heck the PS4 is having trouble getting 60FPS at some 720p games... Much less 1080...
Anyways, I would just advise sitting on the sidelines and watching DUST slog forward... Lord knows they are gonna need that 10 year plan to get it more than mediocre LOL

Watch DUST back in 2009 on the Carbon Engine yourself and tell me how well it was suited... ?

4k would just be downscaled anyway unless you have a 4k tv or a 4k monitor... |

For the record, the reason the game looked so fluid and high in the FPS department is because most of those videos are internal builds. I have no idea why but anytime it's an internal build it runs smoother - just how it works. If you watch the Dust tournament from Fanfest 2013, **** ran smooth and it was gorgeous (Uprising, btw). Then, Uprising hit the public and it all went downhill; no-one (not even CCP) knew what the **** happened.
It wasn't that smooth back then either, it was actually a lot worse if memory serves. There was a HUGE change when Chromosome came into play and the FPS got substantially faster but that's about where we're at right now.

Look at this! So much of this looks better than the DUST we have now!
It's more colorful, the minimap is better, the effects are better, view bobbing, sound effects (remember when grenades hit near you and you went deaf for a bit?).
How did this happen?
CCP, drop everything, get your entire team into a single room, and just watch videos of the old DUST and take notes of what was better.
this is genius......im seeing the game i actually want to play.............. wish it wasnt dad and gone now....lol why did ccp nerf graphics......its absolutely the only game ive ever see do that
