Such big fundamental things completely invalidates our choices, like buying a million dollar sports car, and then the manufacturers break into your garage, and change the car into a tractor; in such a case, you would feel that a refund for that car is something you are entitled to, likewise I feel that the 1.8 changes mean that infantry deserve in an SP refund. This is the biggest reason why a respec is absolutely required. I really wanted to criticize this analogy because it shows the exaggerating attitude that detracts the validity of many people's arguments. When you apply too much value to your argument then your dissenters know it's not true. A more accurate example would be: you go out and buy a cowboy hat because you are a cowboy; you wake up the next morning and it has been replaced with a beret. It is not a "downgrade" because it is still functionally a hat, the value that has been lost is not monetary or physical, but you are dissatisfied because it is not what you specifically wanted. You are implying that they took your hat and gave you a sock, and that's just not true. If you want to be taken seriously don't exaggerate your personal value, and don't be surprised if people don't sympathize with it. As a dust-related example, I am sorry to the MinLogi speed hackers that aren't being sympathized with. The fact of the matter is that those who do not use your suit don't attach the value that you do to it. Don't get up in arms if people disagree that it is now "useless". Also on that note bonuses can only do so much. You can still get pretty close to what you had if get a suit that has 5 low-slots. And you can still do what you did before...you don't have to use your suit bonus... Anyway... I am normally against the idea of a respec but I agree with you on this to the point where I am pretty sure it would be reasonable to expect and prepare for one coming. Some people invested time, effort, SP, and sometimes real-world money in to what kind of merc they are for specific reasons, more than likely suit bonuses. If they are going to change then their work will have meant nothing, and that is not fair. I'm going back into CalAssault regardless of bonus since I use my Raven/Dragonfly BPOs extensively. A tractor is not necessarily a downgrade, it just performs a different purpose. If you are playing the role of a farmer, than a great new tractor is something you would want. If you bought he sports car for he purpose of racing though, you're screwed, much like if you speced on Minmatar logi for the purpose of hacking, you're screwed.

If you for example want to switch from the Amarr Sentinel to Caldari Sentinel you no longer have any use for your armor skills, but will need shield skills instead. Thus there has to be a respec for Dropsuit Upgrades as well.
If you want to switch from Gallente Assault to Minmatar Assault and want to take full advantage of the suit bonus you no longer have any use of the Assault Rifle you skilled into, but will need the Combat Rifle instead. Thus there has to be a respec for Weaponry as well.
I can go on with reasons for a full infantry respec. The point is just that a Dropsuit Command respec won't be enough as different suits require entirely different SP investments. Good points.

i also belive that there should be a respec and that logi's are going to be a rare breed. esp as there equipment is being nerfed so badly. you will need proto ger to get advanced level results. unless you are using the right logi for the job. so i wont be respeccing into logi. unless the pg/cpu stat stays and the other bonues goes.
my name is boba and im a hoarder.

QFT- anyone switching out of the logi class is going to have a ton of SP tied up in equipment. I'm definitely not shelling out for proto nanohives in 1.8 with 2/3 as many nanites.

I never got why people use the word respec and SP refund as if they don't mean the same thing; they mean the same thing. A full respec is the same thing as a full SP refund, and a partial respec is the same as a partial refund.

Totally agree.
Those who don't want a respec...can always respec the exact same skills if they want to. The fact of the matter is that the suit and racial bonuses are not being TWEAKED they are being CHANGED outright.
When they gave vehicles a blowjob in 1.7, that came with a vehicle skill respec (all three trees). Making the absurd number of changes they are proposing for infantry, they should give us the same treatment (all three trees).

I thought the tractor/sports car analogy worked pretty well, actually. Maybe he should have gone with sports car and luxury sedan to keep things a little more relative.
...and a cowboy hat may just be worn for style, but it certainly has a number of physical functions that one might miss. Say, for example, the wider brim to keep the sun out of your eyes.
People asking for a respec aren't just whining because they are bored with their suits and want a change of pace. Some might be but I know I'm not one of them. I have been Cal Logi since they existed. When they changed the suit bonus from a shield extender bonus to a shield regulator bonus, I was a little chopped up. I missed out on a fourth equipment slot because I wanted the extra eHP and they took it from me. Since it was only a little tweak, and they didn't do it to every suit and race bonus...I rolled with it. THAT is what happens in EVE, most of the time. Not EVERY bonus on EVERY suit with a handful of new suits that weren't in the game in the last build, too.
If you're going to introduce systemic changes to the way basically every suit operates then you need to throw your players a bone and let them make decisions based on the new stats. These are all legit reasons for a respec but the fact is DUST will lose too many players just from not having a respec. That reason alone, as pandering and odious as it can be (and as carefully as this line should be towed), should be enough to push CCP over the edge. We need more players, not less.

Poor analogy as hats are mainly cosmetic, whereas these changes are far different than a change in appearances.
You want an accurate analogy?
It's like you bought an RPG, but overnight instead of firing rockets it changed to firing high-caliber projectile rounds like some shoulder-mounted cannon. It's still functional as a weapon, it still shoots stuff and everything, you can still use it to cause mayhem and destruction, but it serves a completely different purpose than what you bought it for. It's uses are limited in some ways to how it functioned before while being more useful in other ways, but if you bought it for the purpose of exploding the hell out of stuff, it's useless to you now.

To put it better: No matter how they get nerfed, rail rifles will always be the long-range rail-based assault rifles. People who put SP into them should always expect that, and not be refunded SP unless they become something other than a long-range rail-based assault rifle.
Meanwhile, sentinels are changing from being based around heavy weapons to being based around resistances; since that changed what they are, their SP should be refunded.
I am your scan error.

I agree that dropsuit skills should be respecced, as the entire function of them is changing. Many people picked and skilled their weapons and equipment/modules to compliment their dropsuits. If you were a logi and specialized into a ton of equipment, but then chose to be a heavy after a dropsuit respec, what good are those equipment skills to you?

Nope. Skilling into a different dropsuit necessitates very different SP distribution. If someone is switching from logi to heavy, what use would they have for equipment skills? If someone is switching from Amarr sentinel to Cal sentinel, they deserve to move their armor SP to shields. Etc etc etc (for the 3rd time in this thread)
