Given that I can run my fair share of proto gear, I play just as good of not better in a basic suit. I pull better scores in a basic commando than a proto commando.
I can logi just as good in my Templar logi than if if was in my AK.0
Assault suit? Raven suit is fine, done better in that than most in a heavy with a light weapon.

Level 3 in all weapons except Laser Rifle (which is probably next). I even got Level 3 in Plasma Cannons so I could use the Prototype LP one.

After 1.8, assuming there's a respec, I'm probably going to be a pure Scout. Now that I'm better at it, and know how to properly flank and assassinate with a Scout, it's 75% likely that this will be my skill plan:
5 in Core Upgrades, Electronics, and Engineering 5 in Cloaking 5 in Caldari (or Gallente) Scout. Haven't decided yet, going to play a week and find out. 5 in weapon of choice (Probably Knives and a Rail Rifle). 5 in Shield Upgrades At least 3 in all Scanning Skills, although I'm pretty sure I'll have enough to get 5 in each. I need to check requirements. Dampening > Precision > Range.

I practice rock paper scissors.
Rock is Tank. Paper is AV. Scissors is Infantry.
I have Scissors as a primary for the majority of the match. Paper is a side role I have skilled for that just in case moment. Rock is to yet to be touched.
9 Mil SP can create a very round style.
DUST is a half decent game.
Be happy its free.

I run a free logi bpo with 2 shield extenders two armour plates a scanner, an uplink, and a railrifle/smg fit. it costs 18,000 isk or so, and can stand up in all but the most proto-ridden battles. |

Adapting to a battle is always a skill a top player needs. You can't expect to use your one super fit and always expect things to go your way. My go-to fit is the SCR/Amarr combo, but its not practical all the time.
Having fundamental knowledge is key. I suggest players say "f*ck to their KDR" and start experimenting with new suits. You may find something you're good at, or something you enjoy, or both.
I hated being killed by SCRs, then one day I used it, and I liked it. I was good with it, but also, the gun was fun because its a tad different than the other rifles. As I got better with it, I learned to take more risks with it. How many people will jump into a sea of red dots with a SCR and come out on-top? It hones your timing.
But, that set up has counters. Speed strafers are my worst enemy, as my suit is about as fast a glacier. It can't strafe for crap without sacrificing.
Enter the faster mediums frames. Like Minmater and Caldari(Gal is faster than Cal, but gets weighted down with armor), slap on a AR or CR and practice your strafe patterns. Noobs can't beat a simple side-to-side strafe, so that's a good place to start, than increase your skills into movement and learn figure-eights, circles, triangles, and X's(same as figure 8 actually, but I figures I was just copying the buttons on the DS3, lol).
Intimidation is key as well. If someone is shooting at you, and you dart right at them in a pattern, they will exhaust their ammo and usually panic, that's when you strike and go for the kill. Do not show fear, never play it safe, and you'll become better. I've seen players go from a concreted 0.60 KDR to a 2.60 KDR because they simply stopped caring.

I am glad to see more commandos out there. It really is a versatile suit. Two commandos and an Amarr logi is the perfect sub team. Suppression and Aggro. I cant wait for all the new suits in 1.8. I hope they put the focus back on infantry, tanking is like a job. I want to get my boots back on the ground and up my opponents ass.

I started off specialising as a scout/sniper, but now I'm looking to improve my assault game so I've started working up RR. I'm not sure I'm going to ever spec into heavy or vehicles (although taking some dropship skills would probably help a little with the sniping) but my aim is to be able to switch between sniping and being more up close and taking objectives.
When I play as a sniper, I'm more likely to be nearer to the opponents redline than my own.

I would recommend getting your SMG skill up. Don't skill into sharp shooter for it, it will ruin the spray. Fire from the hip for any engagements. I would save the aim for targets that don't see you yet.

I was honestly going to go FULL SCOUT ONLY with a SHOTGUN.
But I quickly realized that playing Skirmish and Domination can be boring sometimes and playing a newbie Scout in Ambush can be frustrating.
So I decided to use my Starter Fit with some shield extenders and a Railgun.. and that quickly made me realize it's okay to diversify a little, but I wouldn't recommend it to a newbie. I still think that everyone should start at a certain direction. So I knew I wanted to be a Scout first. Right now in just under a week with this character though, I'm barely at a Million SP, but I did a better job of choosing my starting skills for a Scout and yes.. I started at Light and dumped most my points on Speed. It's worked better than what I did before and also learning how to play my class by not being seen and Sprinting inside building and using a Militia shotgun to blast opposing hackers has worked well for me, but that can get boring. So I put points into RR and deploy in my Starter Fit and can surpassingly wreck some havoc without being too slow.
Popularity is not an attribute of a Scout, unless it's the afterlife.

Honestly how i started branching out was helping people with their fits? I couldn't give good advice just being heavy. At that time i only had Heavy type II and Sver logi.
I made a rule. Use my cap to fill out my main playstyle and then use the 1.5k every match to try new things. A year later i have everything. If you cant do it in a basic suit i would try something else. after you get used to what you like you can start skilling into that with your weekly SP. keep adding cheap gear after you've capped and you will play longer and better each week.
my first assault suit had a crg and armor plates back in chrome. I never really had a desire to make the copy paste suits all the pros use. Its gear exploits that make FoTM, i like being resourceful and creative and deadly in my own way. Ask my tanker, he lectures me constantly about getting out of my tank. to each his own.
If you want to do more than camp spawns and pew pew. look into being a Warsmith.

Well, I freely admit I'm not all that good at the close game. And whilst I am a woman, I don't think I get all flustered. Of course remembering to actually switch to the SMG at closer ranges will be one of my next goals. Along with improving my RR game of course.

I'm not ripping on you. Its been my experience training females that the SMG is better. I'm sure there are exceptions. I use my side arm any where there are corners, doors, stairs. The ScP is pretty good at range too and i run faster with it out.
