There is a lot of focus on specializing when developing your character. There are those of us who can not commit to a single role on the battle field. We specialize in adapting to battle as a whole. I find having more options puts me in a better position to win battles. What can you field? How do you react to the ever changing battlefront? What advice would you give to the next generation of warsmiths?
I have to say I am a proud Amarr son who appreciates the psychological and visceral engagements Dust provides. I have heavy frames, assault suits, and logistics to back my team up. I can don all other suits and weapons at ADV level or better. The exception being Caldari medium frames for I never wanted to be like every other assault at the time. I do have a BPO dragonfly for making money in an ambush. Since 1.6 I have been strengthening my vehicle combat. Tanks alot. I should have ADS next week at around this time. I cant wait to see some Amarr machines out there.
I will get into individual fits later in the thread, if it takes off. I hope to bounce around some trade secrets. Most of all i want to promote diversity. FoTM blows.

I've generally gone for 3 archetypes. Tank, Gank & Flank.
I couldn't bear having a speed hacker (flank) when all I could do was wait for a point to be cleared before I could rush in. So I got myself a Sentinel and tanked it up to the eyeballs so I could stroll in & mess some sh*t up. Hopefully by the time I lost 1800hp, the enemy would be minced enough for a Minja to mop things up.
Then there's my Laser buddy. And if it's not too conceited, I'd say it's one of the few left willing to give a RR scrub a reason to change their underwear.

I've proudly thrown SP into EVERYTHING except large missiles, small blasters, and the caldari & amarr assaults and logis (I'm in the basic suits though)
Might focus on getting into amarr logis when I get bored.

When most games start either domination or skirmish, I pull out my dragonfly scout suit which has a cardio regulator, hacking module, and a drop uplink on it, You're usually the first to a objective so you can get the first hack which is nice.
Depending on how the battle go's and if im willing to risk a expensive suit or not I could either pull out my prototype logi which cost around 90k isk, my adv logi which is about 30k, or my frontline suit that i threw different weapon and grenades onto which only cost about 2k.
If the enemy team starts to pull out an obnoxious amount of tanks than I pull out my AV suit, its just a standard frontline with av grenades, a nanohive and a swarm launcher, the small SP investment for the standard swarm launcher is very helpful imo, you can fire three swarms before reloading against firing two with the militia variant.
Sometimes when I'm bored I put some RE's on my scout suit, a submachine gun and some kinetic stabilizers thingys ( those modules that make you run faster ) and run around bombing people.
I rarely ever use tanks, but I will pull out my ADS just whenever, never really thought of specific conditions for it I need practice anyway im still kinda new to flying them, if I'm in a squad ill sometimes use a regular dropship to actually transport troops around.
Sorry for the topic being kinda all over the place i dont post ont he forums much.

My Amarr logo is the real murderlogi. As frames go the A-1series is probably the best suit in the game. 3 highs 3 lows and 3 equipment. This thing has a side arm so it makes for a decent AV fit. It has the potential to fill all the gaps in the team. At any given time I have 4-5 set up for various tasks. The best part, it only costs 8000isk.

I agree. I think being AV made me a better tanker. I also think being a scout made me better at assault. I am adapting my logistics fits around the new routs and play styles I have learned as a sniper. Making sniper/AV nests is essential to controlling the battle field. I found the best fit for a Squad lead is a commando. When you have all the legos who knows what you can build?

So, I have: -Scout 4 -Logi 3 -Assault 1
All Gallente, of course, and my scout is about to be proto after a million more skill points.
I, also, have at least 1 point in every weapon except heavy ones. |

Have you tried the G-1assault with profile dampeners. I made a MLT one as a joke and ended up skilling into G-1series to capitalize on the damage mods. Its like a tougher scout.

I can run STD everything, ADV most things, and PRO few things. Because of LP gear (I only spend AUR on boosters, not gear) I can run LP PRO most things. As time goes on that will be ADV everything and PRO some things. That only puts me in an advantageous position when the equipment I like is inevitably nerfed and I can switch to ADV whatever is left untouched by the nerf bat.
Generalizing in DUST is MUCH easier that generalizing in EVE. With the rapid changes DUST goes through (a once a month patch schedule that I had said CCP would be unable to maintain and I have been proven right), generalizing can only be beneficial. If you specialize and sink most of your SP into a few PRO things, (Swarms as a past example, or RRs and CRs as a potential future example) and those things get hit hard with the nerf bat, well that's tough ****. This is an MMO and that's how it works. Don't expect a respec to stop your tears.
(There is only one specific instance in which I would support a full and final respec, and that's on the patch that bring full racial parity to basic content, being suits, vehicles, and handheld and vehicle weapons.)

message from Godin: I'm a Gal Scout and Gal Pilot. That's it. I chose that I wanted to do those 2 things at the start of my plaing, and have stuck with it. I have PROTO scout suits, PROTO shotty, PROTO SMG, and PROTO everything but small turrets on my vehicles. I have (almost) everyhting I want maxed out. After I do? Well, I'll start maxing out my alts. Maybe bank SP for new stuff that I might like down the pipe. New support skills. ETC. I don't like to branch out very far into random stuff, as I might not like it, and never use that stuff, so it's imo wasted SP. I believe in no respecs every last second, so I have to be wise with my SP.
Where was I going with this? Who knows lol |

Most people forget that last part, or have no idea it even exists....
I run approximately three logi fits that cover most of what i like to do, and three assault fits for the rest. The number of fits vary, as i often spend more time tinkering than actually playing.
For us low-pointers there really isn't much diversification, unless you skill into almost everything like i did and spend a very long time in basic and militia fits....

Hai, someone call me? I love being a jack of all trades - it allows me superior diversity on the battlefield, forcing my enemies into multiple niches that I have access to that they don't. Sometimes it gets rough, not being able to field proto suits, but I generally run a lone wolf anyway, so proto suits would just hurt me more than them.

I can run proto logi, proto commando , proto medium Caldari fram (used as assault), basic amarr assault, adv sentinels (not to find of them though), dropships (incubus ftw!!!) and have every weapon to adv or higher except CR, shotgun and plasma cannon. Only sidearm I have to proto is SMG....but I do fine with a basic one so I rarely use anything higher.

Well if you want specifics, the fit i use the most is the basic Gal-Logi: *2 Militia Pates *Basic AR *Militia Drop Uplink *Militia Nanohive *Remote Explosives
This is my "Selfish Kitten" fit for running solo, a sort of Flanker/Logi cross. Cheap as chips, and surprisingly effective if you don't get caught in any direct engagements. A variation swaps the Plates for a Damper and a Cardio mod, if i start coming across roaming kill-teams.
My true Flanker fit is a basic Gal-Assault: *Basic Profile Damper *Basic Armour Repairer *Basic Armour Plate *Basic Shield Extender Basic or Breach AR (I can run advanced and variants, but the price!!!) SMG or Breach Flaylock (blast on the basic sucks, so i'll take the extra damage thank you.) Basic Nanohive or Uplink
Another solo fit, has a bit more punch and survivability than the logi, but less versatile. Once again the idea is to avoid direct confrontation, though with this fit the goal is to tackle other lone wolves, set up crossfires, and generally sow enough confusion to pull a few reds out of position.

My actual fit for Assault roles is a brick tank Gal Assault with flux grenades... I think it rocks near 650-700 ehp? I use the GEK for this one, as there is no point soaking up hits if you can't dish it back.

Every soldier should have Demolitions III ExplosivesI GrenadierIII. Lvl 1 grenades net you all 3types but ADV have the wallop you need. M-8 if you are good.
Drop uplink deployment II is a must. The stable uplink is the perfect equipment for tossing on any suit. Nanocircuitry is also high on the list. The compact nanohive fits anywhere. I would strongly recommend getting all the triage hives. Scanner.
Basic swarms, sniper, and a rifle. You can branch out from here.
Get profile dampening III or better. Suits are your choice.

for the more specialized among us like myself my advice is this: don't react to the changing battlefield, don't adapt to it, but rather shape it. find your rhythm, find what works for you, and work it. force the fight on your terms and refuse the fight on theirs. if there is one thing I have learned it's that your opponent will hand you the upper-hand if you refuse to give it to them first. idiots will chase shotty scouts around corners and run straight into cqc with a heavy. all you have to do is let them. smart players wont round that corner, good for them, there are other fish in the sea.
