So anyone know if WoD is the priority right now for CCP or not? Is Dust514 kind of an operational experiment? Do the devs share roles in all of their projects? What percentage of work force is applied specifically to Dust?
Not bringing negative criticisms BUT I don't want to stick out a game that is just a side experiment while other projects take priority. |

They have a job posting for a dev type role though so I have to believe that some effort is being put forth. |

I actually met with the Creative Director of WoD in Vegas, really nice lady. Basically it's being worked on, but the resources behind it are not nearly as heavy as CCP's other major projects.

LOL, I did once he posted it. But again, I know that a lot of people go across projects and is typically a part of something stupid called "Resource Management" and other nonsense.
All of that aside, I believe my questions was answered. Glad to know that there is a single focused team on Dust514 or at least enough focus that it makes sense to continue playing. |

The month of rage.
A not to long time ago.... The Incarna update for Eve-Online is not going especially well for the game's developers, CCP. First, there's the $70 monocle that players can buy and equip to their new avatars. Then there's the threat of pay-to-win items entering the game system via microtransactions. A significant proportion of Eve's playerbase are upset. Significant enough to organise a vast in-game protest at Jita, Eve's trade-hub. The video above comes from that protest, with around a 1000 pilots firing upon the trade-station. This isn't the only protest ongoing; similar protests have taken place across Tranquility this evening.
To be fair, there are also anti-protest protests taking place. And they've got lasers, too. Because that's the kind of game Eve is. More, including CCP's response, below.
The CCP developers have explained some of the thinking behind Incarna and their micro-transaction store in an extraordinary blog-post, titled 'Fearless'.
Here's the killer quote. It's pretty special.
"People have been shocked by the price range in the NeX store, but you should remember that we are talking about clothes. Look at the clothes you are currently wearing in real life. Do you have any specific brands? Did you choose it because it was better quality than a no-name brand? Assume for a short while that you are wearing a pair of $1,000 jeans from some exclusive Japanese boutique shop. Why would you want to wear a pair of $1,000 jeans when you can get perfectly similar jeans for under $50? What do other people think about you when they see you wearing them? For some you will look like the sad culmination of vainness while others will admire you and think you are the coolest thing since sliced bread. Whichever it is, it is clear that by wearing clothes you are expressing yourself and that the price is one of the many dimensions that clothes possess to do that in addition to style and fit. You don't need to buy expensive clothes. In fact you don't need to buy any clothes. Whatever you choose to do reflects what you are and what you want others to think you are."
soon after Eve players in Mass started closing there accounts in the fall out from this CCP pulled 98% of its devs from WoD to work on Dust 514 and fired staff to off set the loss of money from the Eve players and to help win there player base back.
as for us Eve players we came back to are beloved word of back stabbings and "can i have your stuff" game world just we still all are hurt that most of us thot that CCP was not going to sell us out and thats why we will never forget that Epic month of rage and why you my dust bunny are here to day and not still in a Beta . happy ?

I'm not sure of what this means as a whole. I gather that they pulled extra resources from WoD to work on Dust514 and Eve to rectify some of the customer outrage. Is that accurate? |

I think, based on public info, it is just an MMO like any other that is in very early development. Typically, that early indicates that they are still on drawing boards and taking the "MMO is an ART" route where they make it as they go along. |

What's been stated (I think, memory vague) and don't quote me, CCP mentioned slowing down the development of WoD to focus on Dust growth for the year 2013. I think I read that in a random game article. So I wouldn't be surprised if that game gets some kind of development revival mid year.

This guy reminds me of those Planet Side 2 bombers we had. All over the forums. I pick dust514. CCP has shown hope. Last year was really hard but they are showing they do pay attention. Just takes a while to get it rolling.

This thread proves (yet again) what a mistake it was for CCP to even think of developing WoD; people here either don't know what it is, or superficially know what it is and then spit on it. I guess I can thank Twilight for the latter response. Ugh.
WoD's about being a monster in a world of other monsters. Rise to the top by slowly forsaking humanity, or maintain your morality at the cost of power and (in)glory. It's not the kind of game that would attract the average Twihard; it'd in fact repel most. If you focus on the core themes of the setting and not just the vampire ****, it's rather philosophical; not really suited for an MMO game, if you ask me.
As for how much CCP's invested in it, someone else here said it best: when anything goes wrong, WoD's the first thing they hack to pieces.
Please, CCP: admit you made a horrible blunder and sell the rights to WoD once and for all. EVE/Dust fans will be happy, WoD fans will be happy; and the two never really should have been near each other in the first place. |
