Game development is much an art, and has been turned into a business first then art. EA games for example could build games with just the development tools and pieces that has been built over their collection of titles. Then Frankenstein a game together quickly, buy a shelf in the Walmart and Gamestops and have a successful title.

The Steam market could potentially allow an avenue for all game developers to market their products or art, without having to go through distributors and partnered mega vendors. The sky really is the limit with what Valve is purposing, if executed right this could be the end of the cross platform debate and the need for static half decade old hardware platforms for living room entertainment.

$500-1000 for a steam box, people will get them but they will not kill consoles or PCs. Every year some new device drops that is the console/PC killer and it never happens. The steam box is a laptop with no screen, the miniature size makes it as expensive or more expensive than a equally performing PC. Why would I pay more for a PC that does less than a PC?

Consoles will probably never die because they are good pieces of hardware that have long a long life. Consoles may become more alike than different but the steam box will no one kill them off because of the entry price, ease of use and brand name recognition.

Steam boxes use the internet to download content, many places have slow/bad connections or even no connection at all. Console solve this by providing players with physical media that doesn't need the internet. I would be shocked if the steam box sells half as many as a PS4 or xboxone. Why spend the extra $500 when I have the PC or console that does it already?

Crowd Sourcing is super effective. If it's money/staffing that would keep it from happening then crowdsource and knock it out. Porting it to PS4 makes a lot of sense. In addition, doing it before the end of the first year will more than tripple the number of players on it for sure. Think about how many games will even be out for PS4 by December of 2014. Maybe 40? So it will be, at a minimum, a top 40 ps4 game.

I am a total SONY fanboy but I don't have much faith in the multiplayer part. They said the same type of things about the PSP and it never lived up to it. SONY makes great electronics and pushes innovations but the end user probably doesn't have the connection speeds that SONY uses to test these things out on. And people are still saying they arent and the laptop is king.
