Quick question, as I'm mostly still a newer player. I get the concept of the CPM, and it sounds like a pretty awesome thing. I was just wondering if there's a medium where it shows the topics that CPMs are pushing towards CCP. I know I've seen several CPMs posting on various player-made forums, but I was just curious about the CPM - > CCP interaction. Is it possible to see anything about that? I know there's an NDA(Not sure about what exactly), but figured it'd be worth asking. |

Indeed, narrowboats are definitely an issue, but what about the elephants, clearly a much larger issue. Son-Of A-Gun has been working very closely with this issue, to develop idea about how to go about adressing the "elephant in the room" so to speak. What work has Jenza done with elephants? Clearly none. So please cast your vote for Son-Of A-Gun, for action on much larger issues.

we talk to CCP basically on a daily basis, if, nothing else, to just chat about our day and improve the relationship.
CCP gets a lot of crazy ideas, some great some not so great. In this instance we provide both something of a sanity check to CCP and to give our feedback on the situation. The devs also cant look at the forum all the time, so if there is a very serious bug or glitch, its a great way to get their attention to it asap.
We also see dev blogs before they come out so that we can stop any phrases or anything like that which may create cause for concern in the community.
We also constantly talk about various ideas that the community has posted and things here and there. Its a very difficult, time consuming and thankless job but its worth it as the game and the community do benifit in the long term. A lot of the stuff we do if behind closed doors so its difficult to talk about specifics, it also irritates me when people say that I or any other CPM isnt doing anything or is a bad or even good CPM because honestly they dont see whats going on beyond the forums.
Its not all sunshine and bunnies if you want to apply for CPM and its not going to let you have infinite power either.

Question
The hell wants to be CPM???
I just want to PLAY the game, not deal with assholes all day.
Another question
Why doesn't CCP simply throw us out these crazy/bad ideas. If nothing else, it would be entertaining to discuss.

Since when? 1.7 launched FW 2.0; which is when FW actually began to matter and was distinguishable from pub matches in any real way.
1.7 was launched on December 10th, 2013... Not even a month ago. So tell me again when Min/Gal got served in FW? Before 1.7? Who gives a flying **** about FW pre-1.7? It's not like FW had any real rewards for Dust mercs then.
Also, what qualifies someone as a newb? Less than a mil SP? Still in academy? Lifetime WP? K/d ratio?
Let's put it this way: I made my character the day Uprising 1.0 was released. If memory serves that is early May 2013. So I've been actively playing Dust for 8 months. I would not call myself a veteran, but I'm not a newb.

the origional system that evolved to what it is today was my idea. why dont you like friendly fire in FW? The reason i pushed for it is that there are many players who couldn't get into PC for friendly fire so i didnt want some players to be neglected for the chance of more complicated play. In the end FF and factional warfare go togehter perfectly. the system needs some tweeking, no arguments there, butI still thing FF in FW is a good thing and you are the first person i have ever seen complain about it.

Your whining about fk all and the 'no rewards' childish mentality towards past fw to me says you are a sprog cupcake newb.
For about 2-3 months min and gal got ragged the way you are experiencing it now, people still did it regardless of dog treat rewards.

I think you underestimate some of the crazyness of some of the ideas. CCP used to do this back in closed closed beta in the IRC and there where always a few people who started flipping the **** out and posting on the forums that x is happening and causing a shitstorm. the result of this was less and less info being shared in the IRC.

For starers... It breaks my immersion a bit when I consider that in FW your bullets actually hurt other mercs; meanwhile, in public contracts those same bullets don't.
Friendly fire necessitates a penalty that deters blueberries from rampant TK'ing. This penalty has to be applied to everyone who TK's regardless of if was an accident or not. A few blueberries dive into my squads' warbarge strike? Congrats, I earned myself a 24 hour banning for helping my team capture B. Friendly fire works
jenza aranda wrote:The reason i pushed for it is that there are many players who couldn't get into PC for friendly fire so I didn't want some players to be neglected for the chance of more complicated play.
It's more complicated, but it doesn't add depth at all. It's just a massive inconvenience. I can check my line of fire every single day, but inevitably some mouth breather will sit on my grenade or chase after my MD round and I'll lose standings and/or get banned.
jenza aranda wrote:The system needs some tweaking, no arguments there, but I still thing FF in FW is a good thing and you are the first person i have ever seen complain about it.

A few blueberries dive into my squads' warbarge strike? Congrats, I earned myself a 24 hour banning for helping my team capture B. Friendly fire works jenza aranda wrote:The reason i pushed for it is that there are many players who couldn't get into PC for friendly fire so I didn't want some players to be neglected for the chance of more complicated play. When i made my proposal for FF in FW, it was actually a lot more complicated than the 5 mercs kick thing and honestly would have heped, but it would have taken a very long time to implement. I dont know if they ever will give it a go but it was very good and everyone liked it. Im not sure if i can post my origional proposal here for the system but i will ask

Listen, you may have had a system that was more complicated and prevented some of the various problems with FF in FW. It might have been a halfway decent system too, but let's apply Occam's razor. The simplest answer is often the most correct. In this case the simplest answer isn't a complicated system. It is to never implement FF in FW in the first place.
If your stance changes, if you are ever against FF in FW, then we can revisit my vote.

I think you underestimate some of the crazyness of some of the ideas. CCP used to do this back in closed closed beta in the IRC and there where always a few people who started flipping the **** out and posting on the forums that x is happening and causing a shitstorm. the result of this was less and less info being shared in the IRC.
So if they are having ideas then yes, I guess we are underestimating CCPs crazy ideas, but who needs ideas?
We're at the point where we want results not just crazy ideas or (long term planned) visions.
The rest is just the inexperience of CCP with communication and lack of forum-monitoring, like this big troll. |

I figured this was just a case of not being able to cram everything into the patch at once, and hope it's in soon. Also splitting up the gear between the races was kind of a bad idea, not in concept, just in the fact that we don't have all the races equipment, so I'm forced to fight for Amarr Caldari Minmatar to get the stuff for my Heavy, and I'm a Gallente loyalist

Frankly we should have a Crimewatch like system implemented in the entirety of game modes, thus making friendly fire available everywhere, but with various penalties depending on if it was a pub match, FW or corp match (Can I have a dream about Concord bots intervening ? ;) |

here we go, apparently because it was my idea and they didnt end up going with it its fine for me to talk about
here was the idea ...
First off, this isnt meant to be a complete solve all as those who want to just team kill will always find a way, this is more like a way to minimalise the effect while also having consiquence.
Lets say you want to get into a factional warfare game, in order to enter you will need to pay the collateral as deposit to the client empire which is refunded at the end of the match. Lets say that the default amount for a new player is 1 million isk. Big +1
For every friendly that is killed in the game, the value of that friendly unit is deducted from the collateral. and you loose some "merc status" (think something similar to the security status). If you destroy more than the collateral you paid, the next time you do a battle, the collateral increases.
So troll A goes into a game and pays his 1 million isk collateral and through the game destroys 1.5 million isks worth of friendlies. In the next game, his collateral would be 3 million. He would also take a hit to his merc status which would be public on his profile. Conversely, if he does well in the game killing lots of enemy value, the collateral will go down but at a slower rate of going up.
in addition to this, a small portion of the lost collateral goes to the victims.
Another idea was to also have this linked into the standings with the various empires. So for example, if a person loves fighting for the Amarr lots, their standings with the minmatar would go down and thus the collateral would go up. Another example is that if there is an another Battle of caldari prime, and the player has a history of fighting for the gallente but joins the caldari side simply to sabatage the caldari side, because of his history of fighting for the gallente his collateral would be much higher.

This was a pretty decent idea actually. The "collateral" being put up every match, but refunded after the match (provided you didn't TK the entire time) strongly deters griefing... however... it still doesn't stop Captain Windowlicker from getting in the way of my warbarge strike. In fact, with this new system, if I TK'ed some idiot blueberry I would be out lots of ISK.
Again, wouldn't it be easier to just admit that FF in FW was a terribad idea and remove it?

You're a bad and you need to stay in Pub matches I'm sick of **** players crying about FF, I haven't been kicked yet and the majority of players I squad with have only been kicked due to silly bugs, such as CRUs spawning blues under their vehicles, killing a blue turned red vehicle, walking and suddenly getting kicked, etc. It doesn't need to be removed and adds something, it does not take away.
@DUST Fiend, dw I yelled at Foxfour like a day into the patch about it, said he'd get on it ASAP... that said I asked him about it yesterday and he was confused.. *shrugs*

What does it add exactly? The argument could be made that it forces teams to be more tactical and ramps up the difficulty, maybe. But that increase in difficulty goes hand-in-hand with having to deal with blueberries generally being themselves. You have played public contacts, you know what idiocy blueberries are capable of, right? At least in public contracts they will just be useless as opposed to being dangerous like in FW.
It is as if CCP, with Jenza's blessings, said, "Okay, we need a way that a random new player can join a match and potentially **** things up for other players, potentially costing them the whole match without them doing anything wrong. I'm thinking friendly-fire. What do you lads think?"
