I have not died to a single Laser Rifle since 1.7 deployed, and I don't think it's just because the C&R rifles are new and have an event.

Yep it is dead and buried. I have seen 1 since 1.7 went live.
Better start digging the grave for these other weapons:
Plasma Cannon (it's trying to be AV...but fails miserably)
Mass Driver (good but still the ARs are a better choice)
Shotgun (low range and ROF with no way to force CQC)
Flaylock (okay this one has been dead for a while)
Nova Knife (also died some time ago)

The best I've gone in 1.7 with it is 20/8 in my Templar setup.
But most matches I wouldn't even go positive if I tried running it exclusively. Not with the Rail Rifle on the field.

Actually my KDR is not half bad with the Laser Rifle. I have Burnstalks on my scout main, and Heavy + Standards on my Fantastic Alt. I can camp from so nice and distant and melt shields but getting the fricken armor is impossible with level 1 lasers and no damage mods.
The Sweet spot does need to be drastically widened, but the plus side to that is that it makes it such a hard weapon to accidentally Team Kill.

Ha, I guess it depends what you consider as dead. It cannot compete with vast majority of weapons...and hit detection on them is completely wonky. Plus you can hear the charge from like 50m+. I always think my PS3 hard drive is giving out but it's just a nova knifer.
It's a sub par weapon in the very least, people merely use them because they are dedicated to them not because it gives them any advantage.

Hit detection is fine and any knifer that starts a charge 50m away its ********, ill admit they aren't the easy mode Ar users are comfortable with But they are far from subpar. Nova knives have the highest dps out of any weapon the trick is learning to apply it. I wipe out whole squads with my knives its definitely a situational weapon but if your always flanking you can do some serious work with them. |

Even the Plasma Cannon gets used more than the Laser Rifle.
As someone who specced into that weapon when it first came out and used it for months, it's sad to see the state it is in now.

Sorry, but the Nova Knives are quite reliable, and I've been using it next to my Rail Rifle on my Dragonfly scout. But the basic nova knives are garbage. Only use the zn and ishukone. I always got the kill for moving and camping guys, but for one I almost knifed a camping Rail RIfle guy, but he randomly ducked when I was trying to slice his head off...then he apparently heard me, so he turned around and killed me.

It's great for pointing the location of the red dots to the rest of your team so friendly rifle users can kill them.
You can also point to interesting features on the terrain, or use it to signal your location to friendly vehicles, if you need a pickup.
The only change it needs is changing the name, from laser rifle to laser pointer.
I love the weapon, but nowadays is very, very niche. 90% of time, any other weapon will be better. |

I use it on one of my characters and it still outranges all the other 'rifles' in its optimal... The only problem is that the damage ramp up is slow and the ammo consumption is insane |

Supposed to be a long range bug spray, at least thats what I've found.
Melt their shields and make them hide, specially Matari and Caldari.

Do I need to start running my Lazer loadout again? If you ask me that is the best gun in the game, lots of fun. I've been running Logi alot more since the CR hit. Easier to fit and had to remake my suits. Been busy with the LP store making some great Logi fits. Don't worry though I'll bring the disco party back Bzzzzzzz DONG! Bzzzzzzzzz Dong! |

It sounds odd, but it functions like the Mass Driver in the sense that it is a very distracting & very debilitating area denial weapon.
While the MD forces enemies out of cover, the LR forces them to keep it. Both cases they create vulnerabilities.
The problem now, is that the threat of the LR is dependant upon its range. It may have pinpoint accuracy, but even then its dps is laughable until charged up, meaning that the instant dps acheived by the new rifles completely outdoes them.

Definitely long range suppression. A laser rifle can effectively lock-down significant chunks of open area. And to be honest, a great weapon if that's your playstyle.
