Prototype Rail Rifles have 100-80% efficiency through the whole range of the Laser Rifle, aren't restricted to a <20m span and have the same DPS without charging for 30 rounds. There's a bit of kick with Operation 5, so it's not bang on accurate, but it's accurate enough to almost always out DPS the Laser Rifle.

i use the laser rifle and i absolutey love it. anywhere between 40-70 meters is your highest damaging range. depending on what suit. 1 or 2 complex damage mods makes it damage shine. (even though base is 17) more damage helps to smelt them quicker.
yes i used smelt.
when attacking red berrys with the laser watch them BOUNCE IN SEATHING AGNOY AND PAIN KNOWING BUNNY HOPING WILL NOT SAVE THEM FORM YOUR CONTINUOS BEAM OF DEATH!
also best way to anoy snipers. |

Rail Rifles can annoy Snipers from further away, and the enemies seem to bounce right quick when I use Rail Rifles as well.
Glad you're enjoying it, though. Also, keep smelting them and one day you'll have enough Redberrium to forge a sword.

Better start digging the grave for these other weapons:
Plasma Cannon (it's trying to be AV...but fails miserably)
Mass Driver (good but still the ARs are a better choice)
Shotgun (low range and ROF with no way to force CQC)
Flaylock (okay this one has been dead for a while)
Nova Knife (also died some time ago)
If CCP can resurrect the HMG on an off-patch day, there may be hope for these other weapons yet...
(BTW: Nova Knives seem to be fine now. Not great, but people can actually kill with the things in a legitimate fight.)

Yeah. It's been effectively nerfed for like the third time now, so depressing. There is hope though, the fix should be fairly simple, just increase the range and widen the optimal and you are back in bidness.
