So, the new combat rifle is a tube with a stock and a scope. Where, clearly, the assault rifle is a stock with a tube and sometimes a scope. Obviously, if you've spent about 2 million skill points on the assault rifle and that only took you months and months of saving, then, yeah, you're really excited about the new announcements of great new things to never have that are almost identical to what you have. I mean, after all, if you spent six months to learn how to put your left shoe on, then it would certainly take at least that long to put on your right shoe, being such a completely different thing. It's great to be rewarded with new exciting things and I can't wait to pay and pay for more new ways to wait and wait and spend and spend for things so uniquely similar.

*sigh*
The point he's trying to make is that considering that the weapons are quite similar, it's a little silly that the same SP needs to be spent.
Lore answer is that plasma (AR) =/= bullets (CR).

Ok, but only in cases where people are stupid enough to buy the same thing twice.
Either these weapons are so similar that paying twice doesn't make sense and therefore anyone with one doesn't need the other or they're sufficiently different to justify the individual costs. Pick one. |

charge sniper = caldari
regular sniper = gallante
tac sniper = minmatar
as usual amarr is left out.
it will probably end up going similar to the ARs, where the racials will get flushed out based off the first generations alturnates.
obviously a "new" tac sniper will be made, similar to the one we already have but made different and more "minmatar" |

If they release sniper rifles, they are going to have to play with the current sniper rifle's stats.
I imagine the current Sniper Rifle would get increase range, more damage, less clip capacity to make it the closest thing Dust will have to a 1 Shot 1 Kill Sniper Rifle.
It would be interesting if the Amarr Sniper Rifle functioned like a LR but with much more damage and had wider optimal range that was much further back.
The Min Sniper Rifle (Precision Rifle?) would probably be very similar to the Tactical Sniper Rifle.
Maybe the Gal Sniper would be a high RoF sniper with a charge shot option?

Thanks for all the debate on the topic. I appreciate all sides. For anyone who's not sure what I was trying to say, I was basically just saying that if you've already trained and trained in a weapon, and then a very similar weapon comes out (like the tactical assault rifle being very similar to the new combat rifle), why should one have to almost start from square one to train in that.
In short, I am not crying to mom, I am trying to look out for all dust gamers who spent lots of hard earned sp on things.
I am simply saying that, every once in a while, the game creators might want to consider giving their loyal customers something for nearly free if it's super-similar to what they already have. It would generate more loyalty and business for themselves besides just being the kind thing to do. This game can cost a lot in time and real money to get anywhere in and it would be cool if they acknowledged that once in a while.
I'm glad to spend fresh SP on the shotgun or rail gun or whatever, but, seriously, I'm almost maxxed out in assault rifle...I've payed and payed and played to do that. I am not excited about the announcement of a new weapon nearly identical to mine that I would have to start from the beginning on. Personally, it makes me feel like I'm being ripped off.

Yes but a car or a TV cost money. The ability to drive a car or change a TV channel comes through experience or, in the Dust world, SP. Once you have those abilities, you don't need to relearn them if you get a new car or TV. It's two different things. And yes, I do get upset when I feel ripped off. Sorry, I'm human. Believe it or not I'm trying to help you (and me).

Okay, true, but my point is more that, why are the Dust developers making us spend vast SP on both when they are so similiar? I don't mind doing that for shotgun vs. rail gun or other very non-similar things. It just feels like they are leaning towards maximizing the amount they can get from us when, imho, we are the ones supporting them and, every once in a while, at least when it makes logical sense, like in this case, they should lean the other way. They would probably become more profitable in the long term.

Your argument makes logical sense but as you surmised, using logic in this way doesn't make for the SP intensive game that CCP is going for.

Yeah, I guess that's true. It's a shame, though.
I guess I'm coming from the perspective of someone who spends lots of money on music software. In that world, when you pay a lot, they eventually reward you for loyalty with a real discount on something that is actually useful (not talking about 50 entry-level assault suits for some AUR). Something really real. For example, I payed a bunch of money, and the company, in return, might throw me a bone (like a bartender who buys you the 3rd or 4th one). I'm just sayin' (if any Dust developers are listening) that if I already paid a bunch of real money and time to put 2mil+ SP into a weapon like the AR (not to mention the 10+mil SP I spent on all the other stuff you need to barely survive in this game) couldn't you at least consider letting players who are that into the game not have to spend another 2+mil SP to get about as good at such a similar weapon? Every once in a while cut us some slack.
Maybe I'm just being annoying. On the other hand, so many music software companies run off of the philosophy that, if someone has payed and payed into the company, they should be given something real in return (again, not just a bunch of lame entry level suits). I donno, that's just how I would do it.....maybe I'm just naive....and yet, that's how really big music software companies make their loyalty base...it's definitely something I hope the developers might consider, because it's a really great game on one hand, but on the other it just feels like I'm never really rewarded in a real way for putting so much into it like other companies maybe would.

Same, same, but different (isn't there a band with that name?)....Well, I'm done with my tirade. Thanks for weighing in. Next time I'll try and pick a less critical topic. See y'all out there on the battlefield.
Roy Baty....ya, that guy, from the movie Blade Runner...Replicants live on through cloning....They're not bad fighters

It's great to be rewarded with new exciting things and I can't wait to pay and pay for more new ways to wait and wait and spend and spend for things so uniquely similar. kinda like battlefield and their bf premium.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not ur day, tomorrow doesn't look too bright either.

Each race does have its on Rifles.
Gallente: Assault Rifle Caldari: Rail Rifle Minmatar: Combat Rifle Ammar: Scrambler Rifle
As far as side arms, Heavy weapons, etc. CCP has said that all races will have their own weapons and suits. So yes, Minmatar will have a heavy to put their HMG on, and the Amarr will have their own Energy-based heavy weapon. Eventually.
The idea is to have Weapons, vehicles, and whatever for each faction with each being tweaked in some way for the personality of each race. When they intend to do this I don't think they even know. |

Sniper
Rifle
What else would really be different other than swapping up the features already on the Cal sniper rifle.
It really just comes down to veneer. charge sniper = caldari regular sniper = gallante tac sniper = minmatar as usual amarr is left out. it will probably end up going similar to the ARs, where the racials will get flushed out based off the first generations alturnates. obviously a "new" tac sniper will be made, similar to the one we already have but made different and more "minmatar" Amarr is the tactical. It's the Minmatar that got left out.
Amarr already have a sniper, everyone conveniently about forgot the laser rifle. |
