A few weeks ago my squad played almost an entire team of Scouts. We didn't have any gameplan against that. They beat us. Its hard to play well when you're literally spinning circles trying keep them from sneaking on you.
Scouts are good for the right players. Not everyone can do it. I started as a 100% fulltime SG Scout and couldn't get my KDR above 1.05 for 3 months. I gave up and went Medium. I think a 1.00 KDR for a full time scout is rather good, but I can't settle for that after having to work beyond hard for little to no reward besides fun.

You live longer when you don't get hit by bullets too, lol, who has said otherwise? Fox was talking about a failed stalking attempt, not any direct frontline confrontation. The base issue that I see is utility and opportunity cost of running a scout. I have an offensive, defense and support scout builds. the the offensive/defensive are better for my kdr but I run support scout because that wins matches more often. He is a proto uplink complex hacker unit, but while the min logi is the red head of the logis, the hacking bonus with its speed/slot number it actually can do this just as well but with costing a little more isk and more ehp.
People recognize what is OP and what isn't, its not that hard to spot, scouts in chrom were much more popular because they were op or however you define it, scouts now are seldom as the months go by, because they are in fact very under powered. Once cloaks come out I expect all the sloth / path of least resistance players to jump on the scout then though due to the novelty. So I agree with you in regards to not going to far like tanks because I would be upset over that, as the true tankers are now, the trend CCP is going is to dump things down for frontliners. I also would like non combat utility reinforced into the scout.
Scouts current utility on the battlefield is city spaces, point defense, and long distance support running. The point defense and long distance running is not because scouts do it better per say but since these are less rewarding roles the are often left unfilled. Scouts are fine in pub matches, but that changes drastically once you leave pubs or start going up against major corps, which current stealth is lack luster with the focus plus a tank guarding each objective, which they do run a lot outside pubs. It is also the current counter to the yet to be released cloak.
CCP's cloak fix is a scout hotfix, until they actually add more utility as mentioned in the dev blog, and from what it sounds like to prevent any large margins in scout utility increases they are making the scout buff available for all. So I don't think we are going to have to worry about OP scouts because the benefits will dilute itself a little across frames.

I don't have a problem with them, actually.
The community just needs to realize they're SCOUTS; not light assaults.
Their strengths are in scanning and mobility, which gives them 2 main roles: Stealth combat- using their passive scanning and low profiles to surprise people with shotguns, knives, or plasma cannons Non-combat- using their superior mobility to drop uplinks in strategic locations, and combining mobility and stealth to hack unguarded installations
I made fits for both these roles, and they're VERY effective, and my personal favorites, next to my minmatar logi.

Every scout has there war stories of epic events and every single one is F***ing awesome!
PPl say that shotgun scouts are scary and this is true but not all scout run offensive builds. There are many times were I make the top of the leaderboards with less than 10 kills. I once nearly had enough to get my own orbital twice (if only there was more time T_T). Scanners, uplinks, and codebreakers = mad WP gain.

Why do people play pubs and think that are now the "god" of scouts? Go play against any kind of organized competition and you will see it's failings.
The scout cannot equal a medium frame in nearly any way. They don't have the CPU/PGU to fit much, their speed can be equaled by a logi with a ease, their stealth is nice but is too easily overcome. The combination of these leaves it hurting.
Play a scout in a few PC matches and then play a few as a medium frame. It's like playing with an SMG and then switching to a CR. While the SMg is effective the CR is exponentially better. |

Sorry, but this part stood out so much I'm having to ignore the rest of your post for the time being.
Hell no.
Dropships weren't buffed in codex, but they weren't considered OP until that build. Why? Because HAVs were OP in the previous build and nobody touched dropships.
There's always one OP thing that overshadows everything else; only those of us who stray from the beaten path notice what's truly powerful. That being said, for the last 2 builds, I've been terrified of anyone who has mastered plasma cannons. And this build, I'm terrified of any squad who masters dropship combat (I kindof want to see that though- remember that passengers are weapons too! Drop shotgunners into CQC)

I totally agree.
Sounds like so much else in life, hate what you don't understand. Scouts have no place on the front lines. CQC & support is where it's at. You can include sniping under support, as long as they are mic'd up and feeding info to the team/squad.
Use a scout suit for anything else & your going to have a bad time.
Let me know if there are other decent uses for scouts, would love to learn more. |

When a medium suit can do all the things better than a scout there is something wrong (Hacking, evading, stealth etc.). I agree that scouts have their moments and there are some awesome scouts out there who truly **** on the battle field, but the fact that we need to run proto just to get a small advantage is pretty bad.
I have a 1.56 KDR, I work hard for it, though its not what drives me. I do love my scout, but more often than not I have QQ and WTF moments way more than I do on my assault/logi alts.
There is no niche for scouts, when there is then people can decide if they are OP or not.

If you put any effort into improving passive scanning, that's one of their biggest strengths.

when I first started playing this game I was always the guy that flanked, the infiltrator, I would bring uplinks to red objectives, I would hide at red objectives and terrorise them, my style was very stealthy, thats why I became a scout because I thought that they could do this role best, sadly I was wrong, medium suits can infiltrate better, and scouts don't have much of a stealth bonus |

Well it's like this, if you use a rifle on a scout an flank you ll do fine, the scouts that started as scouts in beta that ran pistols an nk an sg, find stealth broken to a degree because in your face gameplay has lost its value to TTK.
The scout was built around " in your face" now it's rather dead an that's why scouts are irritated, use a rifle in any game, dust was built around certain diversities that are semi non existent or viable.
Frustration with ttk when you work so hard to stalk a guy an a rail rifle cleans your clock at 100 m
Ya sure strap a rifle on a scout an go 20/3 but the days of doing that with knives are dead an older scouts want it back, an the young scouts want the experiences the old scouts had, hence the situation.
Scouts with 4.0 kit an 50000 kills are why ccp nerfed us expecting it was the soon to be norm when it isn't , Mr Musturd beats the crap out of proto squads with 40 kill games daily with knives an a pistol in a adv suit , does that mean you base a whole class off those stats?
No but that's what ccp did due to the suits potential in the right hands, so of we all got that good would the suit be op? Hell no, it's the player an the dedication in the player, put a guys like you an flako an musturd an disgruntled an shotty in med frame logistics with rifles, see the problem?
Ccp records stats, an scouts learned to get good in crap, they will always be dangerous an the suit had nothing to do with it, we're used to 300 HP , imagine us with 1000 HP an 3 damage mods, can't balance that, ccp just doesn't want scouts doing better than other suits, we're considered recon an stealth with no recon or stealth in the game just weak assault style suits sinc it is an always will be a killing game. |

Right now, I have to waste 1/2 of my low slots just to avoid a Proto Scanner. Mind you, this is with maxed out passive dampening and Proto Scout. Thats around 3mil SP and wasting a low slot, all to avoid a piece of equipment that costs around 365k SP ( I THINK). Give me a decent cloak, and the ability to avoid PRO scanners without modules, and I will be a VERY happy scout. I will also stab you all. <---- Why I would be happy Agreed It doesn't make since that you have to put more dampening modules on a suit that is already suppose to help make you incognito. The built in dampening is almost little to from what I notice, even in pc my Scout.gko can't escape a proto scanner
To me the proto scout suit with dampening skills maxed should defeat a proto scanner without a module. That is unless the person running the scanner has fit precision enhancement module. Something to that effect.
The entire system needs to be reworked.

With that being said about being an assassins, we are also the ones that should be going around hacking objectives.
BUT seeing as how CCP works, if we ever do get a buff they're probably gonna over do it. Then we'll get nerfed to absolutely nothing :/ |
