Is DUST beating the hell out of your PS3 controllers too? Im on my second one in just a couple of months, the left one actually wears out from Sprinting and digs into the plastic frame edge around the hole making a groove in the stick that gets all hard to use and grindy feeling.
I'm not buying another controller just to play a broke ass game (it is face it, we play more for what it could be then what it is) , I'll try some silicone grease maybe that will help?.

Still have the one I used during beta. I take really good care of my controllers and systems these days, so there's the chance my controller will outlive my actual system.

I do too, Im the only user on my system and DUST is the only game I play on it, I own my home, and am an EVE player, The controllers sit in a nice dust free closed cabinet along with the PS3 when not in use.
Maybe I just mash too hard to run?...

I had one that would just ho nuts, popping me to the overview map, random crouching, reloading when I needed to shoot... I thought it was the game. I was on the verge of quitting. Then, I found a video on YouTube about the padding under the analogs getting ****** up. Fixed it. Good as new. $60 stayed in my pocket.

I have a bunch of crap falling in line on EVE before I slip back into it. I've always feather-fingered my buttons, so that may be why the controller is still good. I get accused of using a modded controller from time to time when using single shot or burst weapons, but it's not my fault that I don't smash my buttons all the way down, which slows down rate of fire greatly. I just use the standard controller that came with my system. Thing's four years old (if I remember correctly).

I bet thats why, I have extremely strong hands (not bragging I just do, I was a brickmason, logger and over the road trucker most of my life even body builder friends have me turn the screw to fasten their plates for workouts because even though their arms are bigger my hands can easy crush stuff) I bet thats the reason I get excited and apply too much pressure.
Never had the problem with XBOX 360 controllers, in fact I like the XBOX controller much much better.

I got groves in both joysticks on my old controller and its so bad they get stuck when I push them forward. This has cost me countless deaths from falling off roofs into a swarm of red dots and messing with my aim going for headshots. Now i think my new controller's L3 button is a little beat up and gives me trouble trying to run. The only problem is its hard to tell when its my controller screwin up or when its the game Lol

I have this exact same problem. The plastic has a tiny ring that has been carved out over time lol. Now it's really grindy as well... what a coincidence...
But this is the manufacturer's fault, not DUST...

I am using the one I got with my PS3 3 years ago. Still fully functional, though has a slight problem with the left analong stick where it would sometimes get stuck in one direction. It's rare so it isn't much of a problem. Didn't get me killed yet.

What are you guys doing in game that breaks controllers?! Be gentle with them, smashing buttuns doesn't make you run or shoot faster...
Still have mine from 5 years ago. My dog chewed the rubber parts off the analog sticks when he was a puppy, so I replaced them with ones from my old PS2 Controllers. It still works fine, its a bit uncomfortable because the rubber bits don't fit as tightly as I would like them to, but I can live with it.

I just went out to the garage and grabbed a little tube of silicon grease I had in there, and used a q-tip to put some in that ring, man it works *better then new* Ill try to find the manufacturer of the tube of grease and link it.

Think about it though, in this game you have to stay constantly in motion or you're dead as soon as you stop. That causes alot of wear.

same 2 controllers since 2008, but have made some small fixes to them...
the rubberish mushroom caps came off, not the hard plastic part, just the coverings...
so trimmed them up and crazy glued them back on...
it happened to 1 first and worked soooo well after that I did it to the other on purpose....
I also took a few pair of rubber palmed work gloves and fitted/cut them to fit on the back side of them...no sweaty palm slip ups anymore....
how the hell are some of you isk poor...??...free isk is everywhere.....

I totally agree. I kicked ass in HALO because xbox has real beefy controllers, I think PS3 was designed for little japanese hands.

The irony?
I bought a new red DS3 and then went back to my old one. The new one was just too stiff on the controls and I found myself appreciating my "worn out" controller.

Not a problem I have ever had with any of my PS controllers, all versions except PS4 that I do not have yet. I always wear out the R2 and L2 for the Gas and Breaks in Grand Turismo. I did have to change to a new one today for a different problem, Fire(R1) and them he would punch and jump. Funny as could be, not very stealthy for a sniper. While walking he would change guns every step, no problem running. I do believe that he was cloned to many times in 30 days, 229 times, the mental issues are showing.

I spent a fair bit of time and money trying to find what felt right for me, if I totalled up how much I spent on surface mods over the years aswell as 3rd party controllers (don't waste your cash on them, always went back to the DS3) I'd probably cry lol, but yeh basically if I'm going to be holding the thing for hours at a time I wanted it to feel as close to perfect as possible.
Side note about the comfort pack; I'd get some different triggers, those seemed to pop off a bit easy. I prefered these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PS-3-Clip-On-Real-Trigger-s-for-Dual-shock-3-Controller-s-R2-L2-Button-/160974531318?pt=US_Video_Game_Cables_Adapters&hash=item257ad46af6 and a brand called "orb" for thumb caps http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAND-NEW-ORB-ANALOGUE-THUMB-GRIPS-FOR-PS3-/400191286864?pt=UK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories_VideoGameAccessories_JN&hash=item5d2d426e50. Been having the same problem on L3 button on my old controllers. Instead of buying a new one Ive been thinking of doing the L3 & R3 button relocation mod. Haven't got around to doing it yet tho, just have to get some wiring at Radioshack and the new buttons and hopefully it should all go well |

Yeah, same. Played a lot of Dust and Borderlands 2 concurrently this year, and both use L3 to run... so I ended up having to replace the DS3 during the summer. Wasn't able to fix mine, unfortunately, I think i just wore something out.

I go through a controller every 8-12 months, always the left joystick wearing out but I play about 16 hours a day (not only dust) I'm on my 7th ps3, every one of them I burnt out the bluray lenses and drives... so in my opinion, the controller lasts the lifetime of the console |

Tox, I put a little of this
http://www.bowessealfast.com/p-2042-sil-glyde-brake-lubricant-8oz-tube.aspx?gclid=CPmtoq6lubsCFUjxOgodhXYAGw
around the stalk of the left analogue stick and a little around the rim edge where the stalk touches the plastic top housing holes they stick up through using a q-tip and it works amazingly well. I got the tube at a NAPA auto parts store. Well worth it!

someone as complaining about DUST and wearing out there controller over voice comms a bit ago, it was someone in the Drunk Night channel. I informed him that you have to tap the L3 button to run. He erroneously believed that you had to hold the L3 button down to run. This may cause extra wear to your controllers. My original controller broke, I was very sad. The wiring aged or something like that, the common occurrence where you hit L3 and it throws a grenade instead. New controller, though having the same serial number, is lighter and the plastic is smoother texture. I do not like it. I want my old broken controller back, but I took it apart to see if I could fix it. didn't work :( I want to try and just transfer the components from one case to the other but every time I'm around circuit boards I get scarred that I am going to break them.

I managed with one controller for well around a year after I bought my PS3 and downloaded DUST. When 3/4ths of the year had passed, I had to replace it with a new one after the thumbsticks began malfunctioning, and having chunks missing after extensive throwing.
Keep in mind I play other games, and I play pretty much every day, I'm surprised it lasted that long.

I have had my controller for almost two years now. It's starting to wear out, but it's still good. Thinking about getting me another one, but haven't really made a decision. The one I got with my PS3 is mine, the one I got from my uncle is messed up... so I let others use it.

It actually looks really easy to do exactly that (swap out guts between controllers), theres some really good youtube videos about it.

I'm a new player and I'm having serious issues with the game right now thanks to the left analog stick.
I'm using a Dual Shock 3 and whenever I press L3 even slightly while trying to strafe or backpedal the Vehicle drop menu will pop up and get me killed. Which is odd considering that same menu is already mapped to the D-pad and Sprint is supposed to be the only thing mapped to L3 to begin with.
Is there any way to disable that menu? Because so far I've been unable to remap any buttons.
Edit > I've already tried using other 2 controllers and this is the only game where I have issues with the L3 button. |

I noticed some odd dust on my left stick the other day and when I started looking closer I saw the groove. Lots of use out of my controller but I need to learn to lighten up on how hard I push the sticks and grip the controller.

I'm getting used to playing a FPS with a controller (because the kb/mouse controls are even worse imo since you can't rebind anything) so I find myself pressing L3 more often than I should.
It's just that I don't understand why they would map a game-interrupting menu to L3 + left/right/back when it's already mapped on the D-pad. And without any way to disable it on L3. |

My thoughts exactly! What can they possibly be doing. I'm guessing running away from tanks It's called adulthood. When you're all grown up, it doesn't take much to break plastic. The first God of War made me twist a controller in half like a Tootsie Roll.
Tiger Woods golf, I did the same thing at least 3 times. Its surprisingly easy to do

That made me laugh so much after grabbing all my ps3 controllers and seeing the exact same thing on them all, today I couldnt sprint due to the analog stick being pushed out of place lol

I would have had my controller longer but I did this deal at GameStop were you bring in your old systems and games, and it deducts the price off the new ps3. So I brought in my old ps3, [it sounded JUST like a freakin vacuum, it killed my ears], my Wii, [dear god, I was soooo happy to get rid of it] and some games. So instead of paying 300$ for a new ps3, I only paid $83.53 cents. Got Uncharted 3 and Dust code with it. But anyway, I don't usually take out my rage on my controller. That's what the stuff in my room is for.
If you get near the 7+ people I'm repping I'll rip your face off.

No need no buy a new controller next time. That's easily fixable. Worked on two of my controllers and several other's around here.
