What a bunch of douche bags firing guys right before the holidays. Really classy CCP... I have lost all faith in your company due to the way you continue to bungle Dust and the way you treat your workers. I mean really if you had to make layoffs do it in Jan or in Oct like a normal company ffs...
http://www.polygon.com/2013/12/12/5201758/ccp-lays-off-15-staffers-working-on-world-of-darkness
Quote:CCP, the developer behind Eve Online and vampiric MMO World of Darkness, laid off "approximately 15" members of its staff, senior PR specialist Ned Coker confirmed to Polygon today.
Those affected were part of the World of Darkness team in Atlanta. CCP issued the following statement:
"CCP today made strategic adjustments to the staffing on the team working on the World of Darkness project in Atlanta that resulted in the elimination of approximately 15 positions at the company. The change was due to our evaluation of the game's design and ongoing development needs. While this was a difficult decision, CCP remains committed to the franchise and our promise to make a compelling, rich and deep World of Darkness experience."
World of Darkness was announced in 2006; few details have been released about the game so far. Most recently, it was shown during this year's Eve Fanfest. CCP previously said a team of at least 70 were working on the game. |

The hell does it matter when you fire someone?
If they aren't doing their jobs or CCP cannot maintain them then such are justifiable reasons.

So? It happens everyday in a bunch of different businesses. If you can't afford to keep employees you have to lay them off. |

Being laid off is something that happens very often in the real world. Companies do it all the time for various reasons. The company I work for lays all of us "young guys" off every October-January. Luckily I make an excessive amount of money and am smart enough to save a large chunk of it for a rainy day.
Simply it is what it is. They, I, anyone employed, is lucky to have a job, even if it's for a limited time. |

I think the article said they were based out of Atlanta. It depends on who you ask whether the US is liberal or not.

Lol, good deal. My plan is working. Burnnnnn!
I'll bet after the DUST dev fiasco they aren't going to take sh*t from underproducing employees. Get rid of the fat before it brings another game down.
They already canned a bunch of Atlanta employees after the EVE fallout.

Sadly this happens all the time. End of the year comes, you have to start cutting liabilities wherever you can. CCP is a decent company but not exactly able to float along comfortably.
They are a victim of "Western business philosophy"... which hurts customers and employyes alike. I hope those 15 people find a step up in their careers. |

The OP is another example of someone who doesn't understand how business works.
If someone has to get laid off because of financial constraints or because a project is not doing so well, then so be it. That's how market forces works. Besides, it's likely those employees were given some extra money before being laid off.
**** like this happens all the time around the world. Walmart, Walgreens, EA Games, CCP, Microsoft, Apple, Sony, Google, Nintendo, Bank of America, Morgan Chase, GE, Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, practically every business in the globe is guilty of this kind of practice.
BY THE WAY...
Since the employees were working at the Atlanta (US) office and they get laid off (different from being fired) then that means that according to US laws they are entitled to Unemployment Benefits.
OK, CCP. When are knives finally going to be improved?

I'd love a WoD game some time before I'm too ******* senile to enjoy it (last WoD game was in 2004!!!), but I agree, CCP seemed like the worst possible choice to make it back when they first bought the rights, and they still seem like a poor choice to handle it now. WoD would be infinitely more difficult to develop than Dust, yet they seemingly have their hands full with the latter. Doesn't bode well at all. I wish they'd just unload the rights already and give another developer a chance with the setting. |

Seven years of development since then and we haven't even seen a beta version yet. We should've seen this coming.

I would think the ~20% unemployment rate for young people would have taught them that by now. Oh, and stagnated wages (relative to inflation/cost of living) for the last three decades. Yay, I'm part of the Lost Generation! |

In CCP's defense they haven't been actively working on it for seven years. It was shelved for most of that time, or getting the bare minimum of pre-production.
Developmentally, I'd say it has maybe 2 years tops of solid (albeit inconsistent) work put into it so far. Though it still begs the questions: if they haven't been able to enter full-scale production in nearly a decade, when will they, and why did they bother trying in the first place? |
