Both locking movement and broadcasting your position (like Sonar) would be nice. Coming from a guy that uses Active Scanners, btw.

As long as scanners are shared squad vision this won't be sufficient.

But but but... I only just started using the scanner. Today was the first time I really put it to use. My ADV MinLogi suit normally runs an injector, a nanohive, and a rep tool. Another fitting I use is dedicated entirely to uplinks. However, after acquiring the Combat Rifle today, I decided to dust off my quantum scanner and put it to use on a fitting that relies on profile dampeners.
The results are phenomenal and I am having fun. Considering I only play Dust on Sundays, can I at least use scanners for another month or so? |

There's nothing more depressing than knowing you can't flank the enemy team, it completely removes tactics when you know you're lit up like a Christmas tree and now there's a mad rush to see who can get to you and kill you first.
It puts new players at an even bigger disadvantage and is just a way for people to get cheap kills and shoot you in the back.
I'm not going to use dampeners as I don't see why I should completely change my setup and total HP just to counter one guy spinning round in a circle whilst the rest of the squad are all stacked with health modules.
CCP, remove scanners, dampeners and everything related, refund ISK from skillbooks and SP and be done with it. Start introducing some tactics to this game.
DUST isn't going to be any more than a casual game whilst stuff like this still exists.
scout suit with 2 militia dampeners will beat an advanced scanner. i flank squads whenever i want by simply using dampeners on scout suits.

I have an idea for the 360 scan trick, every Scanner has a Scan Duration, now what if Scanners needed to stay on a target for the duration of the scan in order to get the results of it?
Example: If I use the Duvolle Focused Scanner and do a 360 while scanning, I'll get no results, but if I thought there where enemies hiding in a bunker, if I scanned it, I would have to keep my Scanner aimed at the bunker for 5 seconds to get scan results, this doesn't mean I have to hold still for the duration of the scan, I just have to keep the Scanners Scan cone fixed on a target for the said target to show up. This would create more diversity in scanner usage, the Focused would serve better against stationary targets, while a Flux would be more useful for quick target marking at long ranges, while giving the Quantum an advantage against faster/closer targets. This would eliminate 360 scanning without limiting the scanners viability in combat, users would just have to consider the Scanner they bring into combat before they use it, the only thing you'd have to do is hold a target, if they move out of your scan cone, then you won't see him, but if his buddies didn't move, you still got something. |

I invite you to try my little experiment to see just how heavily you rely on the scanner - you may have a startling revelation.

Scanners have far too much range and are too potent at detecting enemies.
When they still give you a margin of error after being well below the signature, that's a big problem.
Decrease range, and have it to where if you a just barely below signature the "Some margin of error message will come up" if you are well below scan signature it shows up as if there's no one actually there.

Any soldier that refuses to use any legal means to gain the advantage on their opponent is coming at this the wrong way. Those tools are also available to the enemy and you should expect them to use those same tools as well.
I do believe they need to be balanced, a level of uncertainty added, range falloff added and advantages given to scouts using them. That's all posted elsewhere.

+1 indeed. There's only one consistent way to overcome brick tanked protobears, and that's a scanner + prefiring. They tend to want to conserve their clip for multiple kills, so they don't prefire much despite having scanners of their own. |

Sure, it's a game but it is based on the same concepts of EVE. Your ability to beat the competition in New Eden is often decided before you even hit the battlefield based on manpower, money, character skill levels and choice of fittings. If you don't like that then this game isn't for you.

The dampened scout should be picked up by the scout finding scanner. the payoff for scouts, is the scout finder has such a narrow scan angle that unless you land right on them, you wont hit them, and the scout remains hidden. I'm for cutting the range down to 50, or even 25 meters. Make it that much easier for a scout to get around it.

Indeed, they need to be tweaked a lot to take them away from crutch status
First fix the damn spin scanning, second let walls of installations interfere with scan precisions Dont start freaking out yet guys with scanners wait to hear three, third introduce variations of the scanner, one with a shorter range but does not have to worry about an installation interfering with it making ideal for use inside installations and one with a longer range but that gets blocked by walls making it more suitable for use out in the field
Im considering a fourth idea as well, rather than having it as scan once and having all the enemies light up and be displayed in real time for however long the scan lasts turn it into something that has to actually be actively used like the name implies IE to get the benefits you need to have it out like a repair tool
Im not drunk, the planet just happens to be especially wobbly today.

Nothing should get through? not even a PROTO scout with PROTO dampening skills and a PROTO Profile dampener? It doesnt matter i spent over 3.4 million in SP in order to be profile dampened, because Alena thinks that spendding 1 million in a.scanners gives you the right of being a radar god. ( -.- ) You want A.scanners to pick up everything? then they should cost MORE than scouts V,Dampening V. So in order to get to proto scanners, lets see;You needs at least 1.8 million SP to get to level 5.Have fun with that.
