it would have been a terrible mistake to step out. You are right about that. You could have gotten out of the redline though. A good tanker knows the maps and the redline is huge. Your tank was pretty tough but your skittish. YOLO. |

As for the rest of your post, the sooner it's fixed, the better. As bad as new player turnover rate was before, it will be 100x worse as long as 5 Mach 10 tanks fly around the field, jetting out of range before AV can even dent them.
This is a fix that is needed ASAP no matter how much fun it is for which players. Other fixes to AV can come later, but the speed issue with militia boosters needs to be fixed YESTERDAY.

I tanked in 1.6, it was fun any challenging. Now days Sica or soma is the equivalent of a decent tank a week ago. This is sweet as a tanker. As AV I just avoid them. Really they are so busy killing blueberries you can just walk around the battlefield. Any hope on using them for squad based combat? Don't count on it. They can't move with infantry or provide transportation. Too fast and no seats.
I feel cheated in regards to seriousness. This game is more fun, but less tactical. This is really what tankers wanted? I think tanking is a joke, but jokes are fun, for a bit.

And the tanker can just call in another tank because they are cheap throw aways. The balance in vehicles is broken. I have found it cheaper and more effective to just use tanks now 100% of the time. It's not a specialty like it once was. Everybody and their grandmother has a tank and is r*ping face with it. Tankers got f*cked over the most by this, because in a few months they will get nerfed so hard you'll want your pre 1.7 back.
first off the sica if it was running 2 hardners would negate your damage so lesson don't charge a shield tank when you see it glowing....
and you said your soma survived 4 vollys of proto swarms was it a hardner or rep fit ??? level of skills ??? I take it the 5th volley would have if it did not kill you ??
iv lost gunlogis to forges and swarms but only when they catch me on cool down which can vary from 15-45 seconds pending on how many hardeners iv had to activate to negate the previous encounter . i.e. if I activate 2 hardeners I will not take any damage from swarms blasters missiles or av nades for 30 seconds and have to be in cover before they run short . so combat effective time with 2 hardeners is 15 seconds in 15 seconds to retreat and 45 seconds in the red line .
now if I run 1 of my 2 hardeners at a time av nades unless proto packed wont touch my shields and neither will swarms but forges, plasma cannons, flux nades and blasters will hit at 40% of their damage and will stop my shield regen , I will have a combat effective time of 60 seconds on field, 5-15 seconds off field while I go on cool down, that way is more frontline time but I will receive damage from weapons designed to damage shields. every tank I have lost its because iv been on cool down , and iv been insta popped but that's my fault for either hanging around too long or not taking my retreat to rep into account.
the whole dynamic of how vehicles work has been changed as ell as how mercs are to counter them
1 don't attack a gunlogi when it is glowing
2 if you do then make sure you are using either flux nades , plasma cannon , forge gun or rail turret . yes blasters will cut through 1 hardner but not 2 , the only wepon that can effectively cut through 2 hardners is a rail with a damage mod.
now havs will be op when the hardners are active but you have plenty of timer to attack when inactive i.e. any time between 5-60 seconds pending on their fit. tanks will have a combat effective time of aprox 10-60 seconds to balance this out the longer the tank wants to stay and fight the more vulnerable it is while on the front and the hit run hide tanks will be running for cover after 5-10 seconds of hitting the front before retreating to cool down.
yes tank spam will seem morte than normal right now but its only a day after the changes so folks are trying it out it will subside and the clown car tanks will follow suit. lets just see how thing pan out

Knowing him, he was carrying a Scrambler Pistol, probably a Prototype one... But if you can't shoot a guy with a Militia AR, grenades, and sidearm as backup, then I see why you stay in your tanks... Tanks are a weapon, and their is a time and place for every weapon. You didn't have a back up plan,.
If I remember we lost that game anyway, because we had to waste to much time on dealing with tanks. Sure, we destoryed the tanks (except yours) but we still lost because of it. Because it took that much effort to be that effective at AV, because despite what tankers think AV wasn't an idiot proof guarantee to kill a tank, especially one that actually but effort into their specialty.. Against anyone else, your team's tanks would have walked all over the map and you would have won by a very wide margin. We were able to neutralize you and cut down the lead you took in the beginning, but it wasn't enough.
Winning is all that matters. You won... and got to keep your expensive tuna can. But to be honest, we are the best AV Corp in the game. You can't use an experience against us as the norm. You normally did more than well with your tanks, I'm sure. Or else you wouldn't of had the confidence to bring a 2.2million ISK piece of machinery out on the battle field in a match that would only awarded you 400k ISK at most...

Poppin tanks is easy. Enemy tanks are of no concern to me. I got proto AV. the suit costs 90k. Why bother? I can drop a soma kill the tank and rapefest infantry too, for 70k.
there was a time when it took skill and intelligence to be a pilot. I have no reason not to drop cheap tanks and mow down anyone I see. Nobody does. That's why there is so much tank spam. The novelty is wearing off. I don't even watch out for good tankers anymore or care if its armor or Shield. It doesn't matter its just a job now. |

Tell me, when did you ever see infantry effectively immune to tank fire, in the way that tanks are effectively immune to infantry fire (including AV) at the moment? Infantry versus AV was more or less balanced between launch and 1.7 - infantry scared of tanks+tanks scared of AV=balance. In beta it was Tank 514 like it is now.
I'd like to see CCP give infantry the upper hand for once, but I don't think I'll still be playing when they finally pull their heads out their arses. |

swarms were stupidly op in 1.6. Shield tanks were laughable. Maddies relied on a broken rep cycle. It took alot of skill and aPC fit Maddy to not get instapopped. I loved it. On both sides. Now we see generic fits and tank spam. How is this better. If it took more than a mlt tank to be effective I would have skilled back into tanks. |

I agree Swarms were a bit OP (but not nearly as OP as many told they were) CCP should have done one nerf to them but not both at the same time while buffing vehicles. I think the Range nerf would be the better nerf as with the lower Range the swarmi need to get rather close and has to put himself at greater danger to fight of vehicles.
Currently there is no reason to even think of using a swarm fit you are eays prey even easier than before thanks to the new rifles and can't do anything against tanks. I would say apart from RE's the forge is currently the only halfway decent AV weapon on the field. |

I'm thinking it's early days yet, conversation won't really be able to start until nitrous bug is fixed, prolly in a few days.
I like CCP's design goal for tanks: a very tough active phase followed by cool-down vulnerability. It adds interesting dynamics for both the vehicle pilot and the AV infantry. Because this design is a dynamic balance, it will in all likelihood take a bit of back-and-forth adjustment before things are in a happy place. We should all cool off, wait for the bugfix, and just play for awhile.
As infantry AV, i will say that the real boosted speed of the tanks will probably be the primary determining factor for my effectiveness in-match. Attacks will have to be made on the cooldown phase and this means location, location, location. The faster a vehicle, the greater the number of options available when the time comes to bug-out.
My feeling is that to be effective in the AV role i'm going to be spending the entire match as AV in a logistics suit because traps are going to have to be laid and there's also going to be a lot of waiting around and dying to infantry. Kills will be either opportunistic/lucky or will be manufactured. Manufactured kills will almost certainly require 2+ coordinating infantry dedicating a significant portion or all of the match to generating those kills.
That's not very appealing to me - i'm hoping when the multiple RE self-damage thing is fixed that a low-profile sticky-RE build will do the job just as well, and provide an AV option for those who don't want to spend the entire match skulking in the hills.
But for now, the job of AV and tankers is to get out there and beat the everloving f*ck out of each other ;)

8213 is a competent tanker. Also a slayer of men on the ground. He understands battle and is helpful with new guys. This fellow in the vayu was simply a coward. As cowards go he is afraid of them too. He skilled into a tank he couldn't afford and we crushed his armored column(I think ahrendee tanks for the most part) and chased him the 20 meters it took for him to make back to his ground spawn. He just hid the rest of the time. Also 1 proxy in the road held him at bay for a good 3minutes. He had a tough vayu, he was just to scared to use it.
alas, glory days. Now tanking is a big joke. Maybe he will find a spine somewhere and come and play. Cowards don't usually change their stripes, its easier to change their pants. |

I don't know if I feel the same or different after a week. Been trying to do corp stuff. I bought some basic tanks. But usually pull out a sica to pop other tanks. Its still weird, I miss my Maddy and my 4226. |
