Tank! In all honesty though im giving my scout the rail rifle for a ranged option when needed. Its sorta kinda replacing my laser rifle...Wish the laser was a little longer ranged though for the optimum...not just at the edge of ar optimum.

I bought 15 basic of each and only played a few rounds but my initial choice is still CR... reminds me a bit of the G11 from black ops which I was rather fond of.
My first full ambush went 8-1 w 7 asst (not stellar I know lol) but for first try w a new gun and no idea how it's really going to act in a fight it was a good start and seems to compliment my style nicely.

Now that I've actually played, I really like the Combat Rifle sound and what it feels like getting torn apart by it (although I do want a slightly longer TTK on everything), but RAIL RIFLE. So much awesome. It's actually better than I expected. |

Rs-90 combat rifle.
That burst is wonderful for helping me save on ammo, rather than hold it and trace, i iust tap it when they're lined up.
That RR is a beast at range though...

Rail Rifle is overall the better choice and feels like the pre nerf breach AR, just with longer range and a bit of kick. the hip fire accuracy is boss and damage per shot is great.
the regular Combat Rifle on the other hand looks sexy and helps me against my bad habbit of full auto spray and pray that I am used to due to the SMG  |

I prefer the CR its just so good. Only down side to it is that huge sight blocks most of your screen lol.

The range advantage of the other weapons outweighs the damage, honestly. A combat rifle with damage mods is just as effective - if not more - than a Burst Assault.

I'm not really sure yet which way I'm going to go. I run minmatar logistics so I figured I'd be going combat rifle...better up close, lower fitting costs so I can use the better equipment. Problem is...I'm a mouse and keyboard user, and the range / shooting profile makes the normal burst variants of the CR extremely finicky about your sensitivity settings since mouse doesn't get any kind of aim assist / friction. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is...on a PC fps I'd have no problem with that weapon profile, and I have no issues sniping or using weapons with longer bursts of fire. If I switch to the DS3 I have a much easier time hitting things with the CR, and shooting with a controller is entirely alien to me.
On the other hand the full auto CR is awesome. If there was a cheaper variant of it I'd use it a lot. I'll probably use it on my more expensive fits. My cheap support logi fits might start using the rail rifle more. I didn't get much practice with it last night, but I did get a couple up close kills with it. The idea being to try and hang back from the front line a little or use cover to pick off longer range targets while the rest of my squad focuses on the closer ones. |

Running the allotek was how I prepared for the MCR.
Ran a few matches with the standard and advanced CR, then cranked it up to prof v.

I tried the advanced RR for one match on an alt and immediately skilled into it on my main (op 5, prof. 2). The sound and feel won me over within seconds. 
I don't think it's as powerful as other weapons are - both in CQC and at range - but both the sound, kickback and animations of the whole thing feel awesome.
That said I was practically sworn to it even before 1.7 deployed. Up until now I had three advanced racial assault suits but only two racial rifles, so something had to be done either way. I just like racial purity in my fittings. |

 If I would choose between the two I would say "why not both?" Make a nice commando suit RR as primary and CR secondary. With the added speed to the reloading you keep spraying your enemies with the RR and the burst precision of the CR. |
