It feels so satisfying to use. <3
I'm a little dubious about it needing a range nerf, but whatever I suppose. It looks cool, it performs well, and it's quite fun to use. \o/

Damn right it is.
Favourite weapon in the game, I'll just upgrade to a Duvolle TAC when the GLU gets nerfed.

I am trying to use the TAR more often but I run logi a lot and I feel very exposed inside of medium range with no sidearm. Is the TAR, in capable hands, able to hold its own while hip firing? |

I do fairly well, the enemy will get me sometimes, but I get them other times. What the TAR lacks in RoF is made up in damage. |

The Tactical Assault Rifle is pretty good and even has some good hip-fire accuracy.
Though I wouldn't get too comfortable with it, it's getting a serious range nerf in 1.7
So if you want a good TAR you'll have to stick with the Scrambler Rifle.

And I don't see why a weapon with Long range is given both incredible stopping power and a good ROF. The SCR just doesn't make any sense to me.

If you like the TAR you might consider skilling into the Rail Rifle when it drops on the 10th. The standard rail rifle is going to be a lot like the TAR but with a much longer range, higher damage, a slight spool up prior to shooting, and a slower RoF.

I've already got some SP set aside for it.

I use it on my logi for close sniper support, its clearly designed purely for doing high damage killing at range so I stack 3 complex damage mods with it, full plates, scanner, repair tool, uplinks and an SMG as I'm amarr logi.
I believe that if your not stacking damage mods with it then you are doing it wrong.

As a logi!
I find the TAR is great to keep me from getting too aggressive like i would be if I had a assault rifle equipped. It forces me to stay at range and I get the breather of setting up links and nanohives. I think if you want to be a really good logi medium range weapons will help you maintain your role and not get you sucked into fighting like assaults and heavies do.

Welcome to my magical world of rainbows, love and Tactical Assault Rifles!
An underused, yet delicious gun, every single shot is rewarding with it.
Unfortunately, 1.7 won't bring new people to this weapon I myself could temporary leave the gun until something is done to make it more viable. Rail and Combat rifles don't threat me, but the range nerf is some bad news.
But the real reason why I might give the Rail Rifle a go is the AR range buff. If only the AR had some recoil... as a dedicated marksman, the extended AR range is going to compromise my role, along the purpose of the TAR.
Since you enjoy this weapon as well, I'm curious to know if you're going to use it in 1.7 and, if you do, if you would still consider it a viable choice.
Anyway, I wish you the best luck with this weapon and infinte happiness.
With Love,
Keri

I'm going to try it in 1.7. I've also got some SP set aside for the rail rifle - I'm probably going to end up using both, though. I play Gal FW so I can get TARs from that store, but also rail rifles in salvage if/when people use them on the other side.
I really am quite worried about the range buffs - the TAR is going to be relatively short range compared to the other rifles, so the engagement envelope is going to be well within range of others.

Exactly.
Anyway, I don't know exacly how the open market will work and if it will allow direct client-to-client services, but if this trading system will be implemented, you can buy Rail Rifles directly from me, if you wish, or trade them for some Gallente equipment. I have no idea if I will still use the Duvolle AR, I might stick to the Ishukone ARR if I like it (most likely I will).

I've been rediscovering TARs. The improved HD is so much better and beneficial, where bullet lag had almost killed it. I don't have any Amarr suits (yet) so the Scramblers aren't an optimal fit and they sound too dinky for my taste. But, the Rail Rifles have my full attention with 1.6m SP in the bank.
I saw that some KDR whores were using them well, so I thought I'd give buy a few DTARs. OMJeezus. Ridic. Totsmagoats. Even my old budget-friendly GLU-5s are mildly beastly now. Just gotta get accustomed to the quick scope action...

Full time Caldari Assault.
I tested other suits with secondary characters and there are some of them I like very much (Amarr Assault, Minmatar Logi), but I haven't a crazy amount of SP (I started playing DUST during Uprising 1.0) and I'm just sticking to my favorite suit, upgrading every single piece of equipment and my fitting skills religiously.
I really had good luck choosing this suit at the very start of my DUST career. I picked it just because of the lovely design and because it was Caldari, but I found out it's the most comfortable and versatile suit to me. I never get bored of this suit and it fits my favorite roles perfectly (marksman, flanker, hit and run general playstyle).
If you enjoy it, I'd say get proto, yes. The depleted shield nerf is going to get a bit annoying, but it won't ruin this awesome suit. I just don't know why they nerfed shield and why they nerfed the TAR and buffed AR. Sometimes it seems like CCP decides random things throwing dice, but this is not Dungeons & Dragons...

With Love, Keri

Thanks - I'm thinking of going for a fit like this:
Duvolle Tactical Assault Rifle M209 Assault SMG Core Locus Grenade
Complex Damage Modifier Complex Shield Extender Complex Shield Extender Complex Shield Extender
Complex Shield Regulator Complex Shield Regulator Complex CPU Upgrade
A-45 Quantum Active Scanner/X-3 Quantum Nanohive
I'm curious about the low slot options though. I have some biotics that I'm itching to use, but is it worth it? Can you feasibly fit a kincat there, and is it of any use?
I don't think the shield nerf is going to be significant - it's only 3% to the depleted delay only - but armour (and specifically the logis) is quite strong right now. The TAR range nerf seems to be completely insane though.
Weapon/suit/module balancing isn't great atm, which is a shame.
Thanks for the info. I love my SCR but it's really nice to have another option - it's not entirely analogous to the TAR, so it's a bit different.

I tried to make a fit like that one, with the CPU Upgrade, but I ended up with insufficient PG to fit all that stuff. Maybe it's because I haven't Fitting Optimization unlocked (I just have Proficiency 3), I don't know. Or maybe it's because of the Light Damage Modifier, I don't have them to proto level, so I'm just running 4 Complex Extenders. My Core Upgrades, Engineering and Electronics are all at 5, anyway.
I have a bunch of different fittings, for PC and public matches.
I've recently found out how amazing is Profile Dampening in Public matches, a single Complex Dampener is enough to beat ADV Scanners, which are the most common ones, so I'm actually running one in Pubs if I want to be stealthy. This really depends on the map. In wide open maps (Manus Peak, Line Harvest), I can always keep the perfect distance from my targets, so I don't need it. I just use my own Scanner to avoid being surrounded.
Another thing I'm doing for Publics is to fit ADV weapons (GLU-5 and M209) on my proto suit and use the remaining PG and CPU to fit better low powered modules without using a CPU upgrade.
In PC I find useful to run Armor Plates, it's not really out of the box, but it gives me extra survivability. Since the TTK is a bit short now (I don't really have a problem with it, I'm just adapting), I'm using a couple basic plates as a life-saver. It works most of the time, that extra 0.5 second might be enough to beat an AR user 1v1.
Regulators are a great choice, in any other case. I would use Shield Regulators over Biotics, since you are fast enough without Armor Plates and the Stamina is pretty good as well. The only faster suit would be the Minmatar Assault, as the Logi will be probably armor tanked. I believe the Caldari Assault is fast enough even without Biotics.

It has a really satisfying feel to it as well. You can feel each shot. You can feel when it hits you too. I love that about Dust; the DS3 feedback is such that I can tell what kind of weapon is hitting me. And, until I recently got a headset with game sound, I have never appreciated how much info you gain from hearing the rich combat symphony around you. Glad to hear that the TAR isn't worthless from the hip. I will keep learning. Anyone using the TAR on a non-Amaar logi?
Yeah I use it on a commando or a basic caldari medium frame |

You know what's a fun combo?
Duvolle Tactical Assault Rifle and the Allotek Burst Assault Rifle on a ADV or PRO commando.
Try it. You'll melt in the chair when you realize how much fun your having.

I will, but I am not a big fan of the burst ARs. I will give them a try again. |
