We don't have to fight. You will be freed when you are assimilated. Sounds cool right.

*shrug* You have perfectly good reasons to fight for who you are fighting. You know why you are fighting for who you are fighting for. Yes but the premise is so clich+¬.... there is almost not real room for anything but liberalist hippy and determined hero characters? Again I come back the point of what the hell don't Minmatar and Gallente players use Min/ Gal schitozphrenic underworld bruiser, cruel, but utterly loyal to his her faction. Nope all I have seen thus far is CHAMPION OF FREEDOM characters which A- doesn't rate you very highly in creativity B- predictable and boring. Not to make light of your reasons for supporting min they are as good as any.....but Minmatar don't really have a "soul" as a faction IMO.
I guess I've been too subtle in RPing the mental illness......
Personally, I've always had a picture of my char's background as being very much akin to a very real evil IRL, let's call it "Matari Supremacy", raised in a "Tribal Socialist" upbringing by at least one horribly flawed and abusive parent. As far as RP is concerned this char is supposed to be 2nd gen freed, grandchild to some of the original rebels, daughter of my Eve char (sorry I've been playing RPGs since early childhood, backstory just kinda evolves on its own).
Neither of my New Eden "mains" are angels by any stretch of the word, descended from abused, emotionally broken slaves who bought their own freedom through payment of blood and murder. Their homeworld was a previously uninhabited temperate planet that was "offgrid" (teeming with exotic, hostile fauna) and used as a freedman colony since the original rebellion. The people of their homeworld built a mishmash culture that was entirely Matari though not clearly dominated by any particular tribe. It was within this Tribal Socialist, Matari Supremacist culture that they learned to hate the Amarr and all who stand with them. Religiously, they most closely resemble voodoo utilizing the Old Matari Ways as passed down through oral tradition with a smattering of Amarr heresy replacing the Catholicism found in some voodoo traditions. Viewed as heretics for their beliefs by both mainstream Matari and the Amarr they detest, they nevertheless care for and will defend their Matari heritage.
I'm going to stop rambling now......

lol never though I see post opened about something I posted & Thank You for spreading the truth that The 5 Empires are not all good & not all bad.
The Amarr & Caldari are looked upon badly only because the people have a lack of knowledge on the matter but in truth they are not all bad.
The Amarr atleast aspire to something beyond themselves which is commendable by iteself. |

As I said before bringing RL culture, history & politics into a Lore that it does not excist in is unwise & brings much misunderstanding as well as drama which equals a fight & finally nothing learned. You must approach this world with a fresh perspective as I did before coming to conclusions.
It is the final act in a indentured servants path to become free at that point he or she has been considered redeemed & ready to follow the right path & The Amarr & The Caldari do help them once they are free not to mention The Minmitar helping them.
Agreed all 5 Empires are not all bad & not all good which is my whole point.

The Amarr treat them as indentured servants
Ya know, I really don't think that helps your case. \Why a Holder's duty is to ensure his servants are clothed, fed, kept safe, educated, and in time made into free citizens of the Empire. Plenty of worth Minmatar are emancipated on a yearly basis.
The truth is their is 3 forms of what is refered to as slavery - The first & lowest form is indentured servitude (which is being basically a slave but treated & kept very well possibly even repaid/rewarded for your work)
The 2nd is slavery (which is being a slave with zero respect & your expected to do what your told/kept in line which eventually gives rise to segoration)
The 3rd is True Slavery which is what Sansha's Nation does (where you are stole away, brainwashed, no longer your own self & your nothing but a empty shell that's a puppet doing anything & everything the Master orders without a 2nd thought)
The Amarr treat the servants with high regard & admit to a extent they probably wouldn't be where they are as a Empire without the servants.
And as I said the final step for a servant & in the religious path is freedom & they are to be eventually freed.
Allow me to show a new outlook to it & show the difference between slaves & indentured servants - I suspect it is near identical to how The Amarr Empire works.

I want to point out that Amarrian tenets of slavery are not the same as anything from the real world, which by no means anyone could condone with conviction, bringing those sorts of circumstances into a game is just foolish. We can look back all we want and say that wasn't right, because our combine cultures have moved in a liberalist direction, but back then it was fine and people didn't know any better, infact you could say that was the turning point where our more liberalist ancestors finally began the process of equality for all people. However that has nothing to do with EVE and Dust at all, where the cultures developed out of necessity.

Roger Cordill wrote:Umm, pardon me, but I have some questions: What did the Matari owe the Empire? As a matter of fact, didn't Amarr plan (and still plan) on doing a conquest of the cluster? Plus, didn't they Caldari disrespectfully ditch the Federation, even though we helped them out grow into what they are today?
None of the Races are good. The Federation doesn't bullshit though; We know we're ****** up. We just enjoy it. You think everything you do it good, but in reality, it isn't. At all.
Ah this leads somewhat to the bad of The Amarr & Caldari though your arguement is near civil & begins right you got all trollish towards the end.
The Amarr found the Minmitar & basically from what they saw through the eyes of The Amarr was a undeveloped race that had a "Lord Of The Flies" thing going on so The Amarr felt it duty to interfere (personally I believe The Amarr should have been more diplomatic & not have made The Minmitar indentured servants maybe just try to direct them or leave them be)
The Amarr have what is refered to as "The Reclaiming" where they reclaim God's Land for him & the greater good as in they're belief God made everything & some of it was lost to evil so they feel the Duty to Reclaim for God. However Emperors, Empresses & The Current Empress Jamyl have had differing takes on Reclaiming (personally I do not agree with this also as a Amarrian religious reformist, I believe Reclaiming is only permitted if Land is lost, or it's defence, or in the case of War then & only then is it permitable)
As for The Caldari & The Gallente - The Caldari basically co-founded The Gallente Empire & vice versa. The Caldari left The Gallente for 2 rather simple reasons - 1: Difference in culture (The Gallente wanted The Caldari to change more then they were willing) & 2: Differing political views of how The 2 Empires should go forward. So a war broke out between the 2 & ironically the war stopped upon the first meeting of The Amarr which The 2 Empires thought might be a greater threat but The Amarr really didn't try "Reclaiming" them as they felt no real need or want so instead introduced themselves.
Yes, none of The races are purely all good as I said which is my whole point as I've said & atleast The Amarr aspire to something greater which might 1 day lead to true peace or a unity of sorts. |

LOL, Ok, time for some facts...
Here is what happened when the Amarr found the Minmatar:
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/the-day-of-darkness/
During the time of enslavement (or should I just say "caretaking") of the Minmatar race by the Amarrians, they developed practices like these:
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/slaver/
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/vitoc/
Meanwhile the Minmatar finally won their freedom many generations later, but not without any cost:
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/khuumak/
It was thought that this tribe (the Starkmanir) had been lost to the Amarrian Genocide, but thankfully the Ammatar had been working all the while within the Amarr Empire to protect them until the Thukker Tribe was able to liberate them. Unfortunately Concorde stood in the way of this and that is why there as a standoff between Concorde where the Minmatar gave Concorde an ultimatum about the Amarr releasing the Starkmanir Tribe. Hence this stupid report:
Vinsarrow wrote:- Did you know The Elder Fleet of The Minmitar attacked CONCORD (New Eden's police force! The Generally agreed Good Guys!) to knock out they're support & warning systems to go on to attack The Amarr homeworld & once their The Minmitar killed any & all Amarrians on sight while "rightously freeing minmitar servants" along the way. They're madness of killing armed to unarmed innocent Amarr people of ALL ages was ended by Empress Jamyl who showed up out of no where in Aramggedon Ships & utterly crushed The Elder Fleet in seconds saving millions of Amarr lives thus Amarr ships & ground forces pushed back The Elder Fleet.
And here's a list of the Minmatar Tribes if you are curious:
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Minmatar_Tribal_Society
Anyways, another thing that many of you Minmatar fighters out there may want to know about is the tradition of the Tattoo in Minmatar Society and how important it is:
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/tattoos/
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/war-tattoos/
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/short-stories/the-ray-of-matar/
Oh and and here's a cool story about one the starting NPC corps you might have started with in DUST:
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/valklears/
Also remember those "Black Eagle" Suits?
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/chronicles/black-eagles/
And before there was the discovery of the technology used in DUST clones, there was the acquisition of Capsuleer control technology from the Jovians:
http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/short-stories/the-jovian-wet-grave/
So you can believe the stuff that the Amarr and Caldari say or you can go and find out for yourself.

There is something to be said for an encyclopedic knowledge of Canon Lore.
Now, having said that, I find it highly amusing when people disregard anything not canon. It is as if they are saying that the trillions of people in New Eden are all cardboard cutouts except for those specifically mentioned in lore. Sorry, I just find that to be rather silly, there are thousands of solar systems with tens of thousands of planets that (probably) have hundreds of thousands of nations populated by trillions of people. I highly doubt that CCP would forbid poetic license so long as one didn't try to rewrite the already written.
