I like Minmatar cause I like the idea of playing a "primitive" tribesman with a justified(?) homicidal rage welling within them. Sebiestor strike me as having a very "modern primitive" vibe about them which I greatly enjoy.
I picture them as being very "Verbena + Virtual Adept = Sebiestor Tinkerer"
I guess the whole "FREEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!!! **** THE EVIL EMPIRE!!" schtick is just a bonus
*shrug*

*shrug* You have perfectly good reasons to fight for who you are fighting. You know why you are fighting for who you are fighting for. Yes but the premise is so clich+¬.... there is almost not real room for anything but liberalist hippy and determined hero characters? Again I come back the point of what the hell don't Minmatar and Gallente players use Min/ Gal schitozphrenic underworld bruiser, cruel, but utterly loyal to his her faction. Nope all I have seen thus far is CHAMPION OF FREEDOM characters which A- doesn't rate you very highly in creativity B- predictable and boring. Not to make light of your reasons for supporting min they are as good as any.....but Minmatar don't really have a "soul" as a faction IMO.
I guess I've been too subtle in RPing the mental illness......
Personally, I've always had a picture of my char's background as being very much akin to a very real evil IRL, let's call it "Matari Supremacy", raised in a "Tribal Socialist" upbringing by at least one horribly flawed and abusive parent. As far as RP is concerned this char is supposed to be 2nd gen freed, grandchild to some of the original rebels, daughter of my Eve char (sorry I've been playing RPGs since early childhood, backstory just kinda evolves on its own).
Neither of my New Eden "mains" are angels by any stretch of the word, descended from abused, emotionally broken slaves who bought their own freedom through payment of blood and murder. Their homeworld was a previously uninhabited temperate planet that was "offgrid" (teeming with exotic, hostile fauna) and used as a freedman colony since the original rebellion. The people of their homeworld built a mishmash culture that was entirely Matari though not clearly dominated by any particular tribe. It was within this Tribal Socialist, Matari Supremacist culture that they learned to hate the Amarr and all who stand with them. Religiously, they most closely resemble voodoo utilizing the Old Matari Ways as passed down through oral tradition with a smattering of Amarr heresy replacing the Catholicism found in some voodoo traditions. Viewed as heretics for their beliefs by both mainstream Matari and the Amarr they detest, they nevertheless care for and will defend their Matari heritage.
I'm going to stop rambling now......

There is something to be said for an encyclopedic knowledge of Canon Lore.
Now, having said that, I find it highly amusing when people disregard anything not canon. It is as if they are saying that the trillions of people in New Eden are all cardboard cutouts except for those specifically mentioned in lore. Sorry, I just find that to be rather silly, there are thousands of solar systems with tens of thousands of planets that (probably) have hundreds of thousands of nations populated by trillions of people. I highly doubt that CCP would forbid poetic license so long as one didn't try to rewrite the already written.
