Do the Minmatar have any themes, pop culture references or similarities between them and other factions from games and film?
Also if the Minmatar have any cool in game lore I would like to learn about it, Valklear and Kamieras are pretty cool, anything else?
E.G
Caldari I can see in stark Spartan sci fi exploratory marine style, games like Halo ODST, Natural Selection 2, Insterstellar Marines...
Gallente the more clean cut and divergent human soldiery of the future...more like Spartans from Halo, Mass Effect alliance Marines, etc....
Amarr speak to me of Space Marines and the more gothic and religious Imperium of Man from 40k

I agree with this as well, you could also throw in the Star Wars separatists as another similarity.

Have you read the Balac lore? He originated from one of the Minmatar tribes. That's intriguing lore right there.
Also, I was particularly captured by this short story here: http://community.eveonline.com/backstory/short-stories/the-ray-of-matar/
The story-telling and that spiritual connection in their traditions really reminds me of the indigenous Aborigines who occupied Australia before it was colonised.

The minmatar the the most populous people of New eden, filling large parts of Amarr and gallente along with their own nation. Most amarrian starships are crewed by minmatar (let that sink in for a bit... think FW).
They are a tribal civilization, organized by their bloodlines/families. Family plays an enormous part in their lives. They suffer from chronic material shortages which has led to the brightest, most innovative thinkers coming from them (the sebestior). They are very mechanically inclined.

The Caldari may be similiar because they are both very militaristic, but equipment wise and aesthetically the Helghast most resemble the Minmatar.

I have to admit I chose Matari due to them reminding me of the Independants in Firefly/Serenity, (yes I'm a Browncoat)
but then I see the Gallente as being the Gene Roddenberry influenced race, and the Caldari as more James Cameron (at least in terms of Aliens or Avatar..).
obviously these are very vague impressions that are over-generalisations, and don't really hold up at closer inspection, but at least get close to themes/mood of these races.
Talking of Killzone, I always thought that the ISA were quite Gallente in theme...

Id have to say this guys pretty much sums it up, id say there is a bit of influence from Nordic and Celtic pagans holding on to their believes against the Christians repesented by the Amarr who wanted to convert them to their religion to put it nicely mixed in their also, also there appears to be a hint to this in Eve as a few Minmatar ships are named after figures from Nordic (Pagan beliefs) Mytology. |

Nah I would have figured Gallente for Earth, Amarr for Fire, Min for Air, Caldari Water.

I would have to agree with deadly aztec, the minnies are a lot like the Helghast:
They were oppressed and their people were put into very harsh conditions. They try to be independent, (just like the matari are allies to the galente, but still try to act on their own) They sometimes have to resort to guerrilla warfare. They use experimental weapons as long as they work. XPLOSIONS!
On the contrary the ISA are more galente based, compared to the ammar who are the matari's enemies. I would say the matari are more steampunky, and a bit less fancy; more rust on their stuff, and more justified.
Long live the Helghast!
