Many people have been clamoring to nerf the Logistics suits in such a silly way. They want to remove the Light Weapon slot from Logistics suits, and most of them want to replace it with a Sidearm Weapon slot. Some of the more deranged want to replace it with nothing, but lets ignore that for the time being. Let us also ignore how silly this kind of nerf is, and how it won't fix a great deal of the 'Slayer-Logi' issues. Let us focus on the player impact. Let's get some pathos in here.
If I have a Logistics Suit (and i do, two in fact) I only have one weapon. With all the SP I have to invest in Nanocircuitry, Repair Tools, and all the other Logistics places, along with all the Core upgrades that Logistics players have to use to get the most out of their higher fitting, I don't have much left over for guns. So what gun so I choose?
I can choose a Sidearm class or Light class. With Light being stronger than Sidearm, of course I'll choose Light. So I start spending my SP on something universal, like the AR or ScR or MD. Once I get that to a good level, maybe I'll skill something more situational like the Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, or Laser Rifle. The point is, most of us besides the Amarr Logistics have probably ignored Sidearms, or at least put the majority of our free SP into Light weapons. I being an Amarr/Minmatar I have SMGs so this doesn't apply to me as much, but think about the others.
So, on goes this Logi, he does his job, pays his corptaxes, maybe even is an ACTUAL LOGI. But here comes the nerfbat, and his Light slot gets hit. He is going to be PISSED, and for good reason. All that SP he spent is now wasted. He's either going to have to abandon the SP he spent on his suit, his equipment, and a few modules because he wants to keep his light weapons, or he has to abandon the light weapons and skill a sidearm to keep all the points in his suit setup.
I want you to ask yourself right now, Logi or not, Assault or not, Vehicle player, AV specialist, whatever you are. How much have you spent on your suit/chassis? Now on your guns/turrets? What if CCP issued a patch that made it so you could use one or the other, but not both? Would you be pissed? Would YOU want reparations? What would YOU do?

Your light weapon skill tree would be refunded and you could then choose the godly SMG, or a scrambler pistol if you've got good aim. Maybe a flaylock with seeker missiles or god only knows what else there is come then.
I'm not saying whether sidearm only would be good or not, but you wouldn't be stuck with that light weapon SP if CCP decided to go that route.

Maybe a 200% fitting penalty for logis on ADV or Proto tier weapons? Throw in DMG mods too if needed. Are any of our big strong Assaults really scared of a logi with an un modded Exile AR?

I have 31 million SP. The only SP outside of logi that I have spent is 800K on vehicles and I went to Min Assault ADV in the speed tanking build.
I learned how to kill as a logi because I was involved in PC and everyone has to be able to kill in PC.
I posted a couple of the links that have been blued up along with the "this week in Dust" thread in our corp FB chat and most logis said they would consider giving up the game. You are talking about a playerbase that has a large number of new games for the PS3 as well as the possibility of moving on to the next generation console.
My tinfoil hat side of the brain thinks the sidearm only crowd is trolling from those that want to see the end of Dust 514.

Logi isn't supposed to be standing at the line slugging it out anyways, he's supposed to be pushing up behind his allies, and only providing support fire if absolutely needed or if he's trying to kill off that last guy to safely revive his allies.
Your argument that so many players would leave because they're logis stems from the fact that logi has been the best class in the game for, ever. That's why people chose it. Balancing them to be in line with the rest of the suits is something that's going to happen, bending over backwards to people who don't want to play a balanced game....I don't think that's a good way to proceed.

Medium range is short range. There is no difference. You can either reach out there or you can't.
The maps are not designed for medium or short range combat. You only have a few objectives that are defendable at close ranges.
Can you imagine the amount of roof camping that is on the way with the increased ranges?

If (and it is just speculation about an option being considered at this stage) CCP change the logi light weapon slot to a sidearm slot then I'd save up my SP for a month or so before the patch, then spec basics of all the available sidearms, try them all out and finally spec into whatever works best for me.
I'd feel a bit sad about not being as effective at killing, but I'm fairly sure I'd get over it in a couple of days.
If I got an SP refund for my light weapon skills, I'd feel pretty chuffed, and then spend most of them right back where they were before.
I'd campaign on the forums, both before and (if necessary) after the patch for the introduction of a medium range carbine style sidearm.
And I'd create an assault suit setup that would let me use my AR (and, soon, combat rifle) skills when I'm in the mood.
Thanks for asking anyway.

They just need to normalize the high/low slot layout at proto levels, why would they lock people into side arm only when the real issue is the extra slots. I am sure CPP assumed people would use these slots for CPU, PG, and extra shields. The fact is everyone uses them for more plates and damage mods. Both racial suits should have same slot layout, and then lets see if that evens the field a bit. My logi can have more HP, does more damage, and still has advanced equipment because the Calogi has more slots, CPU, and PG than my Calsault.

Personally, my strongest investment is in logibro-esque things and my cores. Everything else (with the exception of vehicles) in usable up to the advanced level at least. It's literally a day of passive SP to unlock standard stuff. No one is holding a Scrambler Pistol to your head and telling you not to spend any SP.
That's all you have to do. Something else.

The roof camping in pubs is fine for winning easy battles as they can't do anything up there. But that's the point. They don't care. They are trying to survive and/or get cheap, easy kills. It's not fun when people do that.
And heavies are formidable when people choose to attack the few close range defendable maps that exist out there. Granted they are either very special heavies or have rep tool support.
How do you expect the battles to play out if heavy and logis are effective 40m and under and all the assault guys 65-80 meters on large maps with lots of long range cover?

Why refund the Light Weapon SP? Maybe the player wants to use their Light Weapon more than they want to continue healing their teammates? Getting nerfed is sure to create some disgruntled Logis. That would be like removing the Heavy's Heavy Slot, so they refund his Heavy Weapon SP. Would a Heavy without Heavy weapons still want to be a Heavy? I know that Heavy Weapons are more integral to a Heavy than Light are to a Logi, but you must understand. If a player's combat choices are suddenly limited sue to no fault of their own, they will be right in asking for an out. Think of the number of playstyles the Sidearms accommodate compared to the Light Weapons. It would create a large number of disenfranchised players.

I see scouts moving up and around to flank as assaults provide cover fire for the Heavies to push forward with logis behind them, holding reps. As they move into medium range, assaults move up, logis pull out their sidearm or keep reps up, heavies push the line while the scouts move in for the flank.
This type of theory crafing is pointless though considering how the battlefield is always changing, but you can negate range disadvantage by taking advantage of things like LAVs and Dropships, both of which look like strong options in 1.7 (more so dropships than LAVs).

People have been thinking of the solution to this problem far too simply. Normalizing slot layout between the suits is dumb by the way as the slot layout should cover the fact that Logistics suit need versatility int their modules to function. If my Minnie logi suddenly got 5H2L at Proto I would want my damn SP back as that would take away my codebreakers and my stimulants and the only thing I could put there would be damage and shields.
The funny part is that the solution to this problem is what the problem is. The Gallente Logistics suit or rather its bonus is a large part of the solution. Make it so this skill applies to all Logistics suits as part of the General Logistics Bonus, maybe increase it to 10% per level. Whatever CCP gives Gal Logi as their racial bonus is up to them provided it's not something stupid. Maybe raise the dB range on scanners and give the suit something relating to that, I don't know. Now, with the change to the Logistics Bonus would come a hit to the CPU/PG of the Logistics suits, but nothing so drastic as to be useless, maybe test it at the same as the medium frames and assaults of similar tier and work from there. At this point the user of the suit would have to either use the module slots to try to slayer logi, which would be difficult or they could go logi, using the suit bonus to its full potential and fit modules and weaponry that wouldn't be as strong as what an assault suit would fit. Forcing people to fit equipment slots is stupid. People would just jam in compact hives.
Now with the adjustment to Logis there should also be an overhaul of the Assault. Assaults should be generally all about DPS so a damage bonus for the suit with a general damage reduction for light weapons would help the problem.
This would be a good place to at least start and then tweak from there.

I don't skip on my equipment slots, i fit the best equipment i can in all my slots. I don't fit damage mods, i might have 1 fitted on a dropsuit that i don't use and i have 2 fitted in my basic Swarm Launcher fitting when i try to ward off tanks. I don't fit proto weapons on my usual suits because i need the CPU/PG for all my logi equipment.
Without any false modesty, i probably hack more objectives in most games i play than most other people. I usually raid objectives all by myself (lone wolf player), i provide links for people to be able to get to enemy objectives and it's very common for me to fight back against a stream of defenders until i can hack the objective. I use remote explosives and cover multiple objectives most of the time after hacking them.
I'm very very sorry i kill people but if i don't, i'll be useless. And I'm a logi, deal with it.

I've posted on far more of these kinds of threads than I can count. It's always the same argument both ways. The logistic suit is capable of having 50-150 more EHP than any of the assault variants while dealing the same amount of DPS. I've tested different layouts on all of the racial suits, both assault and logistic alike.
The logistic suit can have 50-150 more EHP while carrying basic/advanced equipment and dealing the same amount of DPS as an assault which has 50-150 less EHP one advanced equipment, a sidearm and is marginally faster.
With that being said I urge you all to do the same. If you don't have access to both a logistic and assault suit of the same race then use the Fitting Tool. The differences between the two aren't as vast as it's made out to be.
As far as PC goes, all players are expected to be able to kill. Imagine logis with just a sidearm going against proto assaults with Balacs, dead logi. Or logis going against proto heavies with 1500-1600 EHP, dead logi. You can make the argument "why is the logi not being supported by his teammates then?" Because in PC that's not always an option, any experienced PC player would know that. I'm not sure what CCP plans to do to the logi but I intend on sticking around to see. I'm happy that I have the option to run proto assault if the change is so bad that my logi suit turns into grandma handing out bandaids and refreshments behind friendly lines. |
