I'm wondering what people would think about toning back the aim assist back to what it was before (before magnetism and adhesion) and simply keep aim friction.
People have been complaining about low TTK since 1.6 hit. Before, gunfights were increasingly difficult because lack of aim assist and crap hit detection made kills take longer. Now, with most bullets registering AND having our reticles stick to targets makes it a "who shot first" sort of twitch shooter. The skill in aiming was taken away because hit detection was not yet up to par.
Now with hit detection actually working as intended, do you think it's time we take a look at aim assist again? This was a huge topic of discussion when it first hit and I still think it's the most pervading issue in regards to the low TTK.
Let me play you the song of my people!

Take off Aim Assist and we're back to Mass Drivers and Grenades being the only usable weapons, especially considering the camera jerk. If you can prevent the enemy from being able to aim at you you've effectively found the best tanking method in the game - hence why Shield tanking worked as well as it did back in the day.
Game needs aim assist, that much is for certain, due to the jerky control scheme that is an analog controller.
One thing I'd like to point out, just as well, is that this isn't an option that's available to just me or the guy next to me - it's available to everyone. If you have an issue with it and you think it's this big, over-powering thing... Turn it on! I've seen the same argument for -every- First Person Shooter game that's come out including Call of Duty and Battlefield. The Aim Assist isn't nearly as bad as the Dust 514 forums leads it on to be.
Black Ops 2 had the most ridiculous Aim Assist
There's no greater annoyance than aiming at someone and having someone else walk in front of them to pull your aim off.
So, no, I disagree with this if only because this game fields the most comprehensive Aim Assist I've seen in a first person shooter. It still requires a great deal of skill and it doesn't 'lead' targets as many people say it does, it will follow them to some degree but you still have to put some effort to stay on target, as opposed to a game like Call of Duty.
Edit: If you don't believe me, try not moving the right analog stick at all when aiming at someone and see how well it works out for you.

"Autoaim" doesn't
- Lock on target
- Only works when aiming DIRECTLY at target
Go and play COD or BF, and you WILL notice how the game basically clicks your gun directly on the enemy, with out any help from you.
DUST doesn't do that
COD and BF have the Aim slow down when just on target in general.
DUST doesn't do that.

Conclusion- DUST has one of the softest Aim Assist out there.

I challenge your hit detection, it is only good with AIM ASSIST, and only specific guns, such as pray and spray. Also guns are over powered for suit category. But i guess it is based on flavor you like of game play. I see assault players take out Heavies with easy like there is nothing to do. But reality is, it should be opposite lol. LIke a chain reaction.

Yes this engine is only good right now for spray and pray. If you have a sniper rifle notice, after you have cursor over a enemy it takes about 1+ seconds to detect hit boxes. SO unless you spray and pray like a fool average gun you have about 50% of registering bcs you moving fast around corners and enemy also moves in and out of cursor.
Now if they nurf AR against heavies so it takes longer to take out heavy while heave on distance with splat Assault Suit, every one will complain that it is over powered but in reality engine registration just BLOWS.
Now if you take AR and do one shot hits while moving cursor of and on a enemy. no shots will register. If ou have aim assist it will register all of them, bcs at works just like an aimbot. If they enable AIM assist on all devices and for all weapons, it will be more fair.
I am actually deciding to contact PSN and notify that DUST is kind of abusing their game to force people to spend more money as they lose suits they buy with cash, and it is kind of a FRAUD. BCS a noob suit can KILL WAR suit just bcs of shots not registering, NOT LAG but issues in engine. :) |

I never state that AA(aim-assist) locks on to targets.
AA actually only kicks in when you directly aim at a target; I have no idea why you claim it doesn't. Once you lock on to a target, the aiming reticle will follow the target to a very limited degree. The aiming reticle doesn't slow down over targets so much as it lightly sticks to them. Thus we don't have aim friction, only aim adhesion.

As a start, aim assist shouldn't be allowed in competitive (PC) matches if anything. They could also progressively reduce its effects as a player advances in skill or time played or what have you.

Hit detection is not great, my thales still gets the blue splash effect when you hit someone and the shields flash yet they still do not take a scratch of damage.

AA isn't the problem. The problem is that the weapons have been balanced around sh*tty hit detection, which has mostly been fixed. They need to nerf damage on a few weapons that are OP right now (probably the upcoming rifles too) and add a slight bit of kick to the AR (significantly less than the AScR).

how many stupid ppl are going to think stupid things on these forums?
first of all aim assist is not auto aim. that is the biased view that says its auto aim.
im still having those moments in gameplay where i get shot from behind and manage to turn around or find some cover and react to save myself from dieing.
im still getting those moments where im surviving even after ive been surrounded by enemies.
most ppl seem to want to make themselves close to invincible so they can have hours to react to a certain scenario.
that was how it used to be for proto vs mlt. still is. its just not as great a gap anymore.
how else can zurg rush tactics be so effective?.
its because an entire team in full proto could just rush into a place guns blazing and capture the objective with ease.
although now its pretty much turned into a siege. a type of trench warfare of sorts.
but clever tactics and thinking can hold a position under constant attack for some time before being overwhelmed now.
i might not be able to survive running into a wall of gunfire now or survive out of cover for long but im still doing good with my mlt gear.
this game isnt even near cod currently.
if it was. i would most certainly never get any good kdrs in any of my matches.
because my cover using playstyle that i use so much is pretty much useless in cod or bf.
yet its very effective in dust 514 for some reason.
hmm i wonder what that means?..
other than all of this my gameplay style hasnt changed much through all the nerfs and buffs.
ive had to use new strategies and tactics but that about it. the only thing that changed my playstyle massively was when my beloved free starter fit lav was removed due to complaining proto bears who kept getting pancaked while standing in the middle of the road.

There's pretty severe input lag as well as very awkward sensitivity controls which makes close-quarter combat an absolute nightmare vs any DS3 aim assist user.

Nope.
The current mouse implementation has a habit of ignoring fine input. Getting a headshot on even a still target takes a few sweeps across their model to get the crosshairs to land just right.
Even back in Chromosome (when the mouse had a turn speed cap, but arguably better precision) the top players were still DS3 users *without* the benefit of aim assist.
I don't think aim assist really factors into the mouse vs ds3 argument. It's just a crutch that has become "tradition" on consoles, and I don't think it has a place in a seriously competitive game like this, especially with the amount of damage the rifles are doing. |

Its a game.
No video game should be "seriously competitive"
This isn't football. Its a game people play to relax after a day of work to chill.

Because all you want to do is play it and win every match/
A game is to be fun, and casual, even the more hardcore games are casual compared to actual competitive games.

Yes, I play video games because I like competition, and I like to try hard, and I like to earn victories through effort.
Why do you play video games? To sit around on the couch, put in the bare minimum effort, and to still be rewarded?
There are many video games that can fill that need, and this is not one of them.
I think this right here is an example of the vast gulf between between the current inhabitants of New Eden, and the types of people CCP is apparently trying to reach out to.
If CCP keeps trying to appeal to people who want to click a cow, theyGÇÖre going to destroy one of the most unique universes in gaming history for the benefit of the lowest common denominator.

Aim assist has nothing to do with the reason behind the fact I die in 0.2 seconds from a duvolle.

Aim assist allows better tracking of targets which mathematically translates into more net damage
Statistically, this means there's a higher percentage of bullets being landed over unit time which is why you die so much faster than before. Isn't it sort of a coincidence that the whole TTK arguments came about as soon as we got AA back and hit detection was improved?
That's beside the point. I'm here asking for CCP to give us simple 1:1 raw input regarding mouse controls so that we can level the playing field. As if stands, DS3 users have far better CQC aiming that mouse users because (a) low framerate inherently inhibits your responsiveness to target movement thus increasing delay between tracking, and (b) very strange mouse control (read: not raw input) significantly reduces precision in regards player input.
All I really seek to know is why whatever mouse scheme they created for this game cannot be converted to or at least given the option for raw input.

ok so i see one side that wants things easy. and another side that wants to be competitive.
well heres a perfect solution to that problem.
stop running your stupid proto suits pubstomping everything and maybe the game will become more challenging for u.
other than that.
if we get a better search parameter system in the form of a customizable gear restriction type thing.
there could be a proto only mode for the "competitive players"
and then there could be a mlt only mode for the ppl who want easy mode.
lets see what gets used more after that. my guess is that the mlt side might be used more as the "try hards" who say they want "challenge" would jump into this mode only to have an easy time and pad their own kd/r.
lets just ruin the game and give every1 full proto of every type of item in game and see how it goes from there.
and infinite amounts of cpu and pg to fit on their suits and vehicles. |
