I have less issues running into stuff with the current build than any time before, save more DS and have managed a way to get use out of it without needing to replace it everyday. Great job on fixing the Camera angles CCP! I do not use the Assault DS, only the transporter variant.

On a related note, what would you think of having different angles for the ADS and the other types of dropship?
I will tell you what we have wanted for ages, a bloody first person view that is actual like your sitting in it, and not just a window with markers on the side and a little x in the centre. Countless suggestions, but when a video pops along, you devs suddenly spark up.
Tired of this bs.

First person view is how we should fly most of the time, yes I understand different playstyles, but really?
Third person is just there to have a quick look around, not to be aiming a turret that can not kill a dog's fleas.

Btw I am quoting from you just so you might see what I am writing, I do not want to be speaking to a blank wall.
Ubderstand this - firs person view is extremely essential for offensive vehicles Transportation vehicles rely on third person.
Since the assault dropship is getting removed you do not need to worry so much about changing third person as, we did not need it AND the 1.6 cam is as good as it can be for transportation and as a small gunning platform.

And what happened to this?
Cmdr Wang, who had mentioned in a weekly feedback/request update said that this will be visited after core gameplay is fixed, I guess work has begun on dropship redesign and about Cmdr Wang, where has he disappeared to?
Take a look at that thread as it is the biggest collection of suggestions on ds re-design I could find.

Ok, this seems a good thread to vote for hull transparency when crosshair overlays dropship's hull.

I would like it if dropships turrets were dealing less damage but at the same time had high hull hit points and high resistance also would be cool to have black prototype dropships I wish vehicals were like infantry progressively better through standard advanced and prototype.

I also understand that us vets find it relatively easy to shoot through the centre of our dropship at red chevrons, but this is not appealing to new pilots, it also looks bad on the game itself.
For people who want to aim down through the ship, simple, make the ship transparent when doing so...
But I do not think that this was well thought over as CCP just wanted to shove as much content in as reasonably possible in Uprising.
FPV... all I want. Take a look at any game which involves offensive aerial vehicles...
Hate to say it but even planetside 2 has good first person camera's and aiming mechanics.

I would like to make two requests.
1. Decouple turret aiming from the view in 1st person view.
2. When you fly close to things in 3rd person view and the camera gets jammed up your dropships bum it's next to impossible to hit anything since the crosshair is way off from where the turret is actually aiming. Make the camera not move and make it see through the building instead.
Great video and thread btw! +1

I agree that a solid 1st person view is needed. If we have that would people want 3rd person? I am interested in your opinions.

If first person view included threat indicators showing where AV is (threata are highlighted by a circle around them or something like that), contains flight instruments such as an altimeter and an artificial horizon, and if the mechanics of flight weren't so awkward (not sure how to fix this though, I've seen some interesting suggestions but don't really know if any are perfect), then I probably would stay in first person view. Oh and the ability to, instead of a rear view, look inside the cabin and see if people have deployed, or have that little dropship passenger slot indicator as a part of first person view, but not centered like it is in third person, perhaps above where ammo usually is.

Because videos are generally concise, well thought out and explained 'arguments' that also demonstrate the issue at hand. Look at the HMG one, it *DEMONSTRATES* that the HMG has almost *no* scatter. |

I prefer 3rd person by far. That goes for all variants of aircrafts. Though I do switch between the two. I usually center my gaming around the 3rd person, because its essential to be situational aware. 1st person for me, I tend to use on more precise matters. If I am flying under something low and making sure I will clear it without hitting the ground, and getting a precise shot while moving at high speeds. Also I can easily point out if you are trying to avoid AA weaponry the last view you want to be stuck in is 1st person view. The issues that plague turrets and dropships that have been brought back up, I think are best answered in other solutions and best addressed in other threads. |

People are people, we all want different things. We need the first person view before we can determine how much third person was used. I personally fly fpv 75% of my flying time. I only really rely on third person to have a quick glimpse around.
Third person again, is important for transport vehicles. They need to know when to drop their crew.
When fighters come out (if they ever do) will rely on fpv for dogfighting. I am so happy that they have not released fighters yet because if they did.. and it had a little window with an X they I would rather ram the other pilot than shoot him/her down.
In fact, I will make a dogfighting thread when I have time.

I also hope that the assault dropship will be the last aircraft to have a movable pilot turret as this is what causes the issues with the third person, but, the physics of the dropship and the sh1tness of the turret does not allow you to deal any where near enough damage to be worthwhile.

Great work CCP, keeping the assault dropship in-game for 1.7 just cost you time and effort to keep wasting electricity on fixing the assault dropship camera.

I am still a newb pilot and only fly a few times a week when no enemy show up for the battle, but I do fly often enough to have had a few thoughts on the matter.
We really need some instrumentation added to the HUD for dropship pilots! Specifically a level indicator. We need an indication of how far forward/back or left/right we are tilted.
If we had some instrumentation, then it would allow us to fly with some alternate camera angles. Such as an option to look down from the bottom of the dropship for landing in tight spots. (Belly Cam)
For switching camera views I would have it setup the same as how infantry switch weapons/equipment. A light tap would toggle between default view to first person view. However, holding the button would bring up a radial view menu allowing you to switch the view.
Or have a default view and a set view (first person vew by default) and tapping the button will toggle between them. But holding the button will allow you to change your Set View. So if you change your Set View to belly cam, you could tap the button between seeing your ship from behind (default) to looking straight down (set).
But again for specialized views such as a belly cam, we would really need instrumentation.
Other instrumentation I would like to see: - Vector indicator (arrow on radar screen) to indicate direction of travel (drift) - horizontal speed readout. - height (above the ground) readout.

it is very hard for me to decide on which view i liked more 1.4 was great for fast flying and the and having my crosshair at the nose of the ship was great however the 1.5 was much better for flying in tights spaces i have to say that 1.5 is best in my mind 1.6 is just to far back i think the big problem is we are trying to cramp some much into a single view the best way around this in my mind is to really fix the first person view this would help ADS pilots find targets and actually hit them without having the ship in the way and still be able to switch back to 3rd person to fly around having both 1st and 3rd person views is really what we need to fix these problems this way all DS pilots can have what they want

these views of the assault dropship look for different than the views of a mlt viper or gorgon.
in either cases. i had an easier time doing back flips and front flips along with barrel roles in previous builds with dropships. |

I prefer 1.4 for normal dropship operations. Not an ADS pilot, but 1.6 looks better for ADS user.
