very unhappy with the dropship leveling.... i used to be able to fly my dropship through the spaces of the triple doughnut, and other madd cool maneuvers. I didn't want to have to upgrade dropships yet to avoid this.......
On the other hand, i understand why CCP did it, to give new players better control. The issues are though that the dropship is so much more vulnerable then before it takes away a lot of the chance to practice and adds to more frustration.
SOLUTION: Add auto leveling to the aerial vehicles options menu, have it turned on automatically but give players a sensitivity choice like; none, low, med, high, or even a sensitivity bar. The better dropships should start with the option turned off, but still be able to turn it on freely.

Second to that: having various dropship camera options selectable via menu, to be placed in rotation for R3 toggle.
They should still have the code laying around for the camera in Uprising 1,0, 13, 1.4 and 1.6 now.
And don't let 1.7 roll out without fixing the turret bug that resets any dropship gunner's aim who looks towards target on the ground in front of the ship.
With assault DS removed (no front gun) and turrets left bugged since Uprising (7 months) that'll mean dropships can't even shoot targets where the pilot is looking at all.
PS I'd back my a** up to enemies so turrets could rotate behind me and aim where it's not bugged, except then I can't see said targets, know if they exist, realize their threats, and the huge engines that take 135% damage are back there so...
fix turrets?

I'm ok with being able to disable Auto-Level for Militia ships.
But am absolutely against allowing it for anything higher. People should have to get good at flying before getting their hands on something more expensive.
Besides, this would pretty much be a giant middle finger to anyone who took the time to get good at flying.

The beauty about a sensitivity bar is that YOU get to have the option for it at anytime. Me personally, i would never have that, unless maybe on low for a tricky landing situation. A variable option gives noobs the extra handling they need for what ever dropship they desire and us awesome pilots THE MOST CONTROL POSSIBLE. It really needs to be a happy medium, the problem with happy mediums, is that everyone's is different.
So put in a option of sensitivities for the leveling and, there you have it problem fixed, And everyone is happy for once.
I will put it on record that the option should automatically be turned ON for milita (still being able to adjust at anytime) BUT automatically turned OFF for anything higher

Hopefully, with stepping stones properly positioned we can get more people from being Blimp pilots to actual Dropship pilots.
It also doesn't help dropships any the fact that the rear thruster doesn't actually have force in the direction indicated by the engine... cause if the force vectors actually aligned it would be easier to learn.

And then we can have a sliding bar for Auto-Aim too. Begining FPS players can slide it all the way up to where it completely auto tracks until they get good at aiming, then they can slide it down to where they feel comfortable.
That way beginers will find DUST very accessible in both flying and shooting. |

I've lost a lot of dropships (especially since I'm a noob at flying and trying to learn) to this. I get the damn thing going and it suddenly starts leveling out and taking me up. Since I have no idea what is happening I counter it and BAM i crash the ship into the ground. EVERY TIME!

How about...
A leveling button on your controller!?
Now that would add more control options and add more trick flying options to DS pilots sleeves. |

Hate it.
Let me explain. Militia ships are entry level. Their auto leveling helps new players, but it hinders experienced players. Dropships are expensive and difficult to fly well. This difficulty helps scale their potential usefulness. Having good aim for an AR user or the ability to correctly calculate direction to lead a target as a Plasma Cannon user is how the skilled player separates themselves from the less skilled. Being able to handle a dropship is the skill separator between new and experienced pilots.
Giving ships flying aids is the auto aim of the pilot world. It would be like having a button you could press on your controller that auto snaps the crosshair of your AR to the nearest target. Like other roles it should be the skill of the operator that determines success not options that allow him buttons to correct his lack of skill.
There needs to be a reward for mastering a higher tier dropship. Advantages that they bring, but an advantage with a cost. Better dropships bring more maneuverability but the cost is this makes control harder. A skilled pilot in high meta should be better than a low skill pilot in high meta. Assists that bridge this gap weaken the role specialisations DUST has.

hmmm..... you just had to huh, a good idea that people like so some troll has gotta disagree with it......... obviously people like the idea, over 20 likes on the page in under two days.... says something. besides there is no reason not to like the idea, especially this lame opinion you created just to contradict, just to be a troll.
Honestly im glad though cuz it gives me a chance to shed some light on the cons of the idea...... (even though your points moot.)
It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to have it on ALL THE TIME for milita so players get used to the extreme leveling system, then to upgrade and have it be a TOTALLY DIFFERENT BALL GAME when you fly.....
new players loose hella good ships because they dont know how to fly due to only flying with the auto leveling for so long..... Enabling a sensitivity bar gives new players a chance to practice actual skills in a cheap dropship. the only people who get an advantage out of this are new players. experienced players are at less of an advantage because if they want to use a cheap dropship then they have to deal with the lame auto leveling. Me personally i would turn it off always except when i knew i had to land on a skinny tower or something, then no matter what level of D.S. im in it will help with those tricky spots. I feel that this ultimately will give players FULL potential of their flying abilities, new players can practice for cheap., better pilots dont have to skill into dropships to be able to fly them,
and most importantly..... this is an option that everyone can actually be happy about, if you dont like it you have the ability to change it to where you're comfortable. ...

Honestly I don't think it's THAT bad. I mean it's pretty much a hover mode, and it really isn't that difficult to control it either. Dropships have needed a hover mode forever now, so honestly this is a good start.

as I said in the feedback forums, the dropship autoleveling is a great feature, just tie it to the currently unused square button in the aerial vehicle controls |
