Ive played around with HMG's quite a while and there are 2 main issues with it.
1. the HMG becomes more accurate the longer you fire. However the crosshair shrinking is too slow in serious firefights 2. the range is like on a SMG which is really poor for a heavy weapon. This means a guy with a AR outranges you at 20m.
the HMG basically needs a buff in range and a faster shrinking crosshair. Damage itself is fine how it is at the moment. It is just ridicoulus that a guy with a militia AR can outrange you with a AR from 20meters away. And to make it easy to you to imagine how far 20meters are: that is the range of a proto repair tool (21 meters actually). Give the weapon a similar range profile like assault rifles not like shotguns or a SMG. And even then the shotgun probs does more damage in a shorter amount of time.
Heavys have downsides to them cause they need to rely on their team for ammo supply. Are damn slow (grenade magnet) and have the largest hitbox which makes them the easiest to hit class in the whole game. They aswell dont have a equipment slot to use stuff like drop uplinks,scanners etc. People may say that they can hit people further away with a HMG but the falloff killed the damage to like 1-3HP per hit which gets easy tanked by a armor repair rate of like 10HP/s.

You want to fight long range use a forge gun or keep bugging CCP to finally get a heavy laser weapon out there, the HMG is short range suppression not "Herp derp I iz teh heavy guy and killz everything at any range" A lot of people try to use it as the door kicking weapon when its not, its the hang back in a tight spot where they cant run from a wall of bullets weapon and the biggest problem is that most maps dont support that

And to make it valid use a std vs std an and vs adv proto vs proto. Guess what wins? AR at 20m wow its strange that a AR does better than a hmg even in its sweet zone well theirs my 2 isklets |

The HMG is little more than a super soaker right now. You could probably kill someone with a rock from father away than a HMG.

Except I have done this and I have won, I guess Im just a better player than you I mean its not like I had 1k ehp without mods and not like I didnt make use of my slots to beat the mean old Mr AR man its also not like I decided to move and strafe a little since even that bit of movement does a lot to help you survive while they other guy is jumping around trying to avoid the constant stream Im sending at him
If you play well and engage in the right area you do fine, otherwise yeah youll get ripped apart It seems like a lot of guys just wanted to run around as the TF2 heavy and use a bunch of health and a huge gun to overcome their lack of playing ability

Hell, buffing HMG range to 5m short of an AR would go a long way. The HMG needs to be treated like a heavy weapon and not lowered to the standards of light weapons like it is now. Overheat, slow reload and lack of mobility were always a heavy with a HMG's weakness. Now, they barely have any strengths. They can even recind the suit HP buff for this and the heavy would be in a good place.
I tried to put a level into Amarr Commando once, but got a server notification saying "Why?"

I'd rather have a weapon with good range than a CQC weapon, thats why i specced into HMG, because i thaught it was a HMG, but its not. Its an overgrown smg with the dispersion of a shotgun. Oh, the irony. The forgegun got nerfed because people used that against infantry rather than the HMG witch is purely meant to kill infantry. |

How about we move the assault rifle to the hMG range and see how many threads you guys put up in a day.
Seriously the machine gun should be better than assault rifle its a heavy weapon that requires a specialized heavy suit to use!
Instead we get two submachine gun barrelles ducked taped together.

Completely agree. I don't recall a single thread asking for an HP buff in the first place. Not even Commandos, who want module slots more than anything.
Roll it back, fix the HMG, release some damn content, and CCP will have happy fatties.

I feel like the only heavy that never engaged anything at 20+ meters even in the "golden age" of closed early beta...
Why ever, evvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvver fight on the terms of your prey?
Granted, the HMG is a sub-par weapon currently, but every map minus garbage manus peak supports HMG work in at least one critical area...
As a side note: Grab a bricked fatsuit sentinel with just one repper and a damage mod with everything else plates, and do ambushes with the HMG via LLAV madness, it's hilarious what the mobility of the LLAV will do for bricked HMG fatsuits...

HMG == Projectile Weapon
The current AR is Gallente Blaster tech and as such, it would stand to reason that the HMG (being a Projectile weapon) would have a comparable range to the Combat Rifle if you want it to have a similar range to an AR.

In think the problem is that because we use the best weapon in dust,its so bad ass it requires its own special suit so large and slow to be able to fire the super weapon of the future. That as a heavy you cannot dictate your engagements or prey. The prey is the ones that dictates how they engage a heavy not the other way around.
But not to worry the whole reason we are slow and can't carry any equipment is because we carry the most devastating weapon in the game......

It'd be nice to have a second option that doesn't involve a lolomgAR of some sort, however.
ED: Completely srs non-venemous mode here: I think the HMG is beast toe-to-toe. But it needs to actually be able to do it's DPS at its optimal range like every other weapon in the game can. If it could apply it's full and proper DPS (or even most of it) at 30m like the range numbers say it should, it would be perfectly fine.

Every now and then I jump into a fat suit to see if it's worthwhile again.
I always switch back pretty quick. I wouldn't mind the HMG being what it is if there were another option for heavies. right now the heavies are having to deal with crippling overspecialization. |

The only good HMG is the Six Kin Burst and at 77K a piece it's not practical for everyday use.
