It's not a QQ thread! Iv rather enjoyed using it!
MD is way over powered. For example, I'm an assault AR user. But today I went to pick up an MD. I invested a total of around 12k SP. Really no that much, it's about 6 hours passive.
First game I go 15/5 Second game I go 33/4!
Q: I have literally just picked the thing up, I have NO skill in using this crap so why am I so good at it? Why am I getting all of these kills?
A: Range defiantly is the problem. 4m radius (8m diameter(in a circle people!) And this is the standard weapon btw, it only go's up from here on, and the main skill for the weapon increases it by 5% per level too!
With this sort of range you don't need worry about body shots, you don't have to worry about seeing the enemy, honestly, I killed 2 people by accident. The only thing you have to worry about is ammo, but carry some hives and your sorted.
So in summery, it takes no skill and barely any SP. A good weapon of choice for anyone coming out of the academy!
But seriously CCP, it needs a nerf, or everything else needs a buff.

Please tell me how the MD needs to be nerfed. It seems perfectly balanced to me
- Slow Travel Time
- Small Blast radius until upgraded to level 5
- Half a clip to kill a starter fit (unless using damage mods and/or prof. skills)
- Really low ammo (18 rounds total)
- Does jack all against shield tankers without flux grenades
- Terrible ADS
- Ability to be buttplugged by SCR and AR users before first shot even travels to the target (in mid range combat)
- Awful weapon when forced to aim up or in terrain obsticals such as hills and mountains)
- Only effective against scouts and armor tankers

A no skill scrub weapon? You are an ASSault that uses ASSault Rifles?
Try aiming up with the weapon and get back to me on that one.

the MD is perfect where it is, the last nerf they did everyone complained that the MD was the equivalent of the current flaylock, thus everyone stopped using them and went back to the assault riffle. be glad that there are people with acctuall intelligence not to skill into the brainless grunt AR

If Mass Drivers are so OP in your opinion then stop staking armor plates just use shield extenders.
It is designed to be super effective against armor, so it's gonna be super effective against armor, that's just it doing its job

PS: Obvious troll is obvious You serious? Small blast radius? It's blast radius is so large that it mitigates the slow travel time. Like i said, carry a nano with you and your ammo troubles are sorted. And yeah I use AR but so does everyone else. An AR fighting an AR kinda cancels out the OPness...
My point was its a no skill weapon, at lease with the AR I have to aim at the head of a moving target, with a MD all i have to do is get the high ground and shoot in the correct direction!

After the hit detection for the MD was improved it became pretty good. |

You cannont aim at the ground and expect to win against shield tankers, heavies, and people who aren't directly infront of you
The splash damage and blast radii does not migrate with travel time, it's just that smart people aim where the person is going to be instead of where they are.
Small blast radius until upgraded to level 5, yeah it's true.
And finally, it's a crowd control weapon. Just like the LR it is supposed to be good at killing massive blobs of people, the MDs tradeoff is the ineffectiveness at long ranges. Just like the LR is devastating at long ranges but is horribly bad in CQC.
Everything has it's drawbacks in this game, except ARs. I see no drawback with them

But lets stay on topic here
The MD is one of the few counters to ARs, and without them we'd basically just be playing a futuristic version of CoD where everyone uses ASSault suits and ASSault Rifles and do nothing but run and gun each other down while spamming Cores like a scumsickle.
I'm honestly not sure if I should call this game Grenadier 514 or CoD514, but either way, it's pretty F***ed up atm

Your argument can be made for any other weapon.
For Example: Change the MD and put Forge Gun. The militia forge gun can insta-kill anyone in one hit. EVERY TIME. Let's just make you have to put 600k SP into a skill just to be able to use the militia FG.

I remember earlier builds where scouts, while being paper thin were strafing gods, able to leap around acrobatically, chipping away at you- NERFED! Heavies used to flat out outgun anyone dumb enough to face them head on- NERFED! Tanks could wreck an entire map if nobody on the opposing end had any AV above MLT swarms- NERFED! See where I'm going with this?

Maybe you just play different and are naturally good with it? You got severly lucky and your team was heavily injuring everyone,you just finished them off? You are lying? I dunno...
Ima 3K-D ratio player that gets Squad/proto stomped BADLY but i think im an above average player, and i've never done more than 20kills in a game with it :/
But play with a STD Laser rifle and go 38-5...so i think is more about playstyle than actually OPness of a weapon.

Yes but the forge gun is getting a radius nerf!
I do see what your saying though, but all i put in the skill was about 12k. Seems crazy when Iv put in nearly 3 million into AR

Yes but the forge gun is getting a radius nerf! I do see what your saying though, but all i put in the skill was about 12k. Seems crazy when Iv put in nearly 3 million into AR MD already got a radius and damage nerf compared to Chromosome. Hell, it just got scaled down. The Freedom, Boundless, and Core are the EX0-5, EC-3, and EK-A2 of last build, with a radius nerf tacked on. You just won't be satisfied until it fires confetti.

But, if you could manage to read... you would see that im not so much as proposing a nerf, in fact I did say that the stats should remain the same, i understand you would need a large radius for CC. But maybe increase the skill requirement to bring it along side other weapons? Because at the moment all I'v done is invest a tiny amount of SP into it, nothing compared to the huge amounts of SP into AR, does it not seem silly to you that there is this much of a gap within the skill point system?

Did you test this with your main, or on an alt pubstomping academy users? Also curious if you can regularly replicate this.
Either way it just might be your natural playstyle, as most people do not have that 30+ score in matches with the MD

But, if you could manage to read... you would see that im not so much as proposing a nerf, in fact I did say that the stats should remain the same, i understand you would need a large radius for CC. But maybe increase the skill requirement to bring it along side other weapons? Because at the moment all I'v done is invest a tiny amount of SP into it, nothing compared to the huge amounts of SP into AR, does it not seem silly to you that there is this much of a gap within the skill point system?

Also it depends on the map. I dont think you'll do very good on a very open map with itlike the 3 objective one..
And if you do you are just way to awesome for all of us...but the MD is fine.

Yes but the forge gun is getting a radius nerf! I do see what your saying though, but all i put in the skill was about 12k. Seems crazy when Iv put in nearly 3 million into AR MD already got a radius and damage nerf compared to Chromosome. Hell, it just got scaled down. The Freedom, Boundless, and Core are the EX0-5, EC-3, and EK-A2 of last build, with a radius nerf tacked on. You just won't be satisfied until it fires confetti. Well hopefully the buff to the heavy tomorrow will make a difference, because I still think its needed.

Mass Driver is one of the best kill-stealing weapons in the game. If you see someone in combat with someone else, spam a round or two in that direction and steal the kill from the guy who earned it.
Whenever I used the MD I noticed I either got a ton of kills or a ton of assist based on just spamming crowds. Don't think for a moment that you killed all 38 people, you probably just stole a ton of kills with it. |

Seriously though OP, you're a scrub, if you've got a duvolle with 3mil SP in it and you do better with a STD MD, its because you can't aim. The ONLY reason you could ever go 30+kills with a STD MD is because the enemies using garbage fits, try bringing a STD MD up against proto suits and lemme see you post a score again. theres a big difference between 3-4 shotting scrubs in starter fits and trying to put MORE than an entire 6 shot magazine into a good player in proto suit whose got a duvolle and melts you in half a second. Fuck1ng scrubs making garbage ignorant threads. |

The splash damage and blast radii does not migrate with travel time, it's just that smart people aim where the person is going to be instead of where they are.

And finally, it's a crowd control weapon. Just like the LR it is supposed to be good at killing massive blobs of people, the MDs tradeoff is the ineffectiveness at long ranges. Just like the LR is devastating at long ranges but is horribly bad in CQC.
Everything has it's drawbacks in this game, except ARs. I see no drawback with them
Wow, I didn't expect to agree with Atiim, but this about sums it up. If you found it that easy, perhaps it should be your weapon of choice, because that kind of performance is the exception, not the rule.

Everyone has been in a match were one side is throwing nade after nade with MD and FG spamming the area. No skill just point in a general direction and fire until you are empty, rinse, and repeat. There is nothing you can do except take cover from a distance and shoot them, problem is the MD has such a high arc it can reach you from over 60M. The best counter to this is a well placed sniper. keep there heads down long enough for your squad to take out there support and they lose the advantage.

Funny you should say that, as it takes 4-5 mass driver rounds to kill, but just one militia locus grenade can OHK a proto suit.
Free grenade on a free suit. Restockable from hive. Easily spammed. But no, Mass driver is OP.

An AR kicks out (a whole lot) more damage much faster, but requires that you maintain your aim (which is not particularly difficult overall) whereas the MD applies damage much, much more slowly but with the advantage that it does not need to directly hit. The MD has some very big ups and downs: - Elevated MD, big advantage - Elevated target, big downside - Target close to wall, advantage - Target in the open, minor disadvantage
And so on...
Point being, the MD is absolutely fine. It's seen a rise in power with the swing towards Armour Tanking since the Plating buff, but that has hardly made the MD overpowered. The MD in the hands of a skilled user will dominate an area, but they do have finite ammunition, even with Nanohives: 60 RPM and a 4 second reload means that there can be a significant period of vulnerability when pressure is applied, especially if the opposition is not foolish enough to cluster up in nice tight groups for the MD to demolish. |

Like i said, carry a nano with you and your ammo troubles are sorted. And yeah I use AR but so does everyone else. An AR fighting an AR kinda cancels out the OPness... My point was its a no skill weapon, at lease with the AR I have to aim at the head of a moving target, with a MD all i have to do is get the high ground and shoot in the correct direction!
An Assault Rifle user does not need to aim for the head. Don't pretend the Assault Rifle takes skill. At least the Mass Driver needs to worry about bullet drop and travel time. The Assault Rifle is point and click with a 1.5 second TTK against rank equivalent gear that is fully tanked after damage mods. This TTK would only be matched by the Mass Driver OHKOing everything, which it doesn't.
Duvolle + Proficiency 5 + 2 Complex Damage Modifiers = 640 DPS. Freedom + Proficiency 5 + 2 Complex Damage Modifiers = 190 DPS.
You're DPS is almost three and a half times higher and you're STILL complaining. The only time I feel ripped off by it is when people play the good old mortar and hive game with it, pelting the Domination terminal from behind cover for free kills. Anything else is fair game. The only annoying aspect of the splash that I've had is that it allows Mass Driver users to hop up and down like idiots in CQC while strafing and shoot at my feet with little semblance of aim. Anything beyond that takes some skill to hit, especially if the target is on level ground or above you.

How much SP do you have and what suit are you using? You probably have 2-3 Complex Damage Modifiers, which add far more damage than Proficiency 5, along with Shield Extenders and Armor Plates. Your SP investment means nothing if you don't tell us your suit as well.
With truly no SP invested in your suit, modules or gun (fresh from the Academy!), your lovely standard Mass Driver deals 115 splash damage in one second. At the same time, you could've dealt 640 with your Duvolle with Proficiency 5 and 2 Complex Damage Modifiers. It takes a noob from the Academy a WHOLE CLIP of Mass Driver ammo over 6 seconds to deal what you can in 1 second.
Yet, clearly, it is the noob with the Mass Driver that needs nerfing.

In recent weeks(and only in pubs) the mass driver has seemed to be OP. The reason for this is mainly because there is a very high number of players using the default free suits(Assault - Frontline etc). The second a mass driver user(of any tier) comes up against an advanced user the advantage is considerably on the side of the latter(unless the MD user has far better positioning).
I expect we will be seeing nerf threads about the shotgun and nova knife tomorrow if they've been properly fixed. |
