If u disagree with any possibilty of a future respec please post your name in this thread. My reasoning behind this is simple. CCP informed the dust populace of the up and comming new content more than a month ahead of time,,so its only logical to start saving your SP,,especially considering all the shooters who have boosters. HONESTLY THERE IS NO EXCUSE. NO RESPEC!! NO RESPEC!! NO RESPEC!! |

I don't think there should be a respec just because new guns are coming out. There should be a new respec maybe in 2.0 when core content is fixed and some racial suits etc are released.

Instead of making a thread to highlight how much you don't understand this game, maybe you should have just stuck to posting in the other thread that's exactly the same as this, without the negative and naive overtones.

EVE Vegas Video link: discussion about racial suits and variants begins at 39:40.
They explicitly state:
1) Racial variants are done, but "must be perfect" before being deployed. 2) They are waiting to do it all at once so that they only have to do one respec.
Sorry man. It's probably gonna happen.

I think respecs are not healthy for a game where commitment and persistence is a core foundational concept. This is not an arcade shooter.
However, I think limited skill point refunds for skill trees that are radically changed are warranted. The upcoming vehicle changes are a prime example. Vehicles are being removed, skills are being added and some skills may be removed and not have a comparable skill that the points could logically be transferred to. The cleanest solution is to refund the whole tree and let the player spend those points again. Hopefully, back into the same tree but that's not required.
CCP adding new items are not worthy of a respec or skill tree refund. Did you use Assault Rifle Proficiency 5 to tear apart your enemies? Yes. Do you want to switch all those skills to Combat Rifle? Sorry, but no. The Assault Rifle is still on the market. Your character committed their time and experience into becoming proficient in it. Over time you'll train into a wide variety of suits, weapons, equipment, vehicles and more. Your character will become more well round and more versatile as a result.
It's crappy that not all racial options were available from the beginning. It's easy to explain using lore that the manufacturers are just now getting new items to the market. Everybody gets to start at the ground floor when something new is releases. You even have the option to save up skill points when something new is going to be released.
Many players want to min/max into the FOTM. If there were regular respecs it would be a constant chase to find and fully invest into that FOTM. There would be no variety on the battlefield and the game would suffer from it. Even worse is when a new weapon appears and everyone goes all in on it only to find it out is not overpowered or is and is balanced a month later. The crying over misspent points is even worse than listening to people ask for respecs.
To answer your petition: There is no black and white answer. CCP needs to fix the game but they don't need to provide a full skill refund. |

Sorry dude, but CCP wants to give us the possibility to make educated decisions about our builds. If they remake vehicle from scratch we will 100% get a respec for that.
I just hope that they will rebalance dropsuit skill trees soon (proto just tiny bit better than standard) and make shield tanking good again (and then give out a respec again of course).

I think you've misread most peoples comments. People that are against complete and regular respecs are usually for partial refunds when CCP changes things like with the upcoming vehicle overhaul.
CCP said during the last full respec that it would never happen again unless there were drastic changes but there could be partial respecs if features had to be changed. They are radically changing vehicles so a partial respec seems likely. |

However, the fact that CCP is hoarding content for a single release, and the fact that they mentioned respecs at all, means it's a point of significant discussion for them in relation to releasing new suits.

I won't cry if it happens but hope it truly is the last one. I have maybe 10% of my SP into things I don't care about anymore but the rest will go right back to where it was. At least the Minmatar wasn't as screwed over for gear like the Caldari or even the Amarr to some degree. I prefer to work within racial lines as much as possible. I do understand that, but I still don't get it.Is it just because "CCP said...",or because people just don't want it period? I think it's the later,no matter what CCP has said ( and let's face it,can we really put much stock into most of what they say anymore?).
It has been mentioned plenty of times, but why CCP hasn't implemented full respecs for AUR is beyond me.They have tried to find many ways to monetize this game with different "packs",this one just seems like a no brainer, especially considering that there has already been a precedent set by other MMOs on PC.
Then again, had they put in the training mode like they talked about who know how long ago,a full respec wouldn't ever be needed.
I have been suggesting to plenty of people to do two things. 1)NEVER go below 1-2 million unallocated SP,just in case something that you have spec'ed into gets the nerf hammer. and 2) create characters on multiple PSN accounts and let them sit and collect passive SP so that when something new comes out,you can try it before you buy it on your main character.
If more people did these two things along with the training or testing mode that CCP promised, then the cry for respecs wouldn't exist.
Then again,I still just don't really see a real problem with respecs considering that this game is losing players and will never have the playerbase to truly make this game epic. |

it's not about the players, it's about the nature of the game and how a respec would go against it. of course adapt or die, there's a counter.
I couldn't care less what people spec into but the option of paid respec or frequent respecs just goes against the game completely.

I dont understand the people that are so hard set against re-specs. I simply can not follow the logic (or in my mind lack of it) CCP makes weapons and dropsuits and such then releases them to the population. When i lookup the stats in the market i can decide if i want it or not. I have no idea what CCP's real plan is for said weapon or whatever all i know is what is in black and white at the time of it being released and i am not responsable for what ccp publishes. Same for dropships and new suits and such. Also i am a casual gamer so in 1 month i probably accumulate about 500k sp or so.
I myself did not skill into flaylocks or a few of the other OP FOTM weapons because i didnt like them they were just not my play style weapon. However I am of the mindset that CCP should do partial re-specs whenever they make major changes to equipment or weapons.
Why do i believe this? Simple its no longer the stuff the players speced into. Players should have the option any time gear is changed to either keep it or to spec into something else.
I also believe that EVERY weapon should have a militia equivalent so people can try out weapons before specing into them. The militia variant should always be a POS compared to the regular version but it should be able to give a feel of what its like to use said weapon.
Re-specs realy mostly help new players. There are a lot of people that have been playing this for over a year and were given so many freebies its insane they have more sp's than what they know what to do with. Course they also were playing when omega boosters were very cheap. |

Btw your cockholster runs to easily,,like many others in the game who cry-baby their way into getting what they want out of ccp,one of the many downfalls of the game,,,if u dont like what I just said then oh freakin well cuz your not the only one who lost real $$ bcuz of respecs. What u bought then u deal with now,,nuff said Who cares about FoTM Only players with no skills are worried about other players having solid builds. Adapt or die. it's not about the players, it's about the nature of the game and how a respec would go against it. of course adapt or die, there's a counter. I couldn't care less what people spec into but the option of paid respec or frequent respecs just goes against the game completely.
+1 for saying "couldn't care less" instead of "could care less".
-1 for thinking that it really makes a difference anymore about going against the nature of the game.
The nature of the game is massive battles for planetary, and galactic control, none of which are realized, and likely to ever be.How the hell does anyone reconcile the fact that it only takes 16 mercs to take total control over an entire planet?!
This game is so far gone from it's origin vision of meta game elements that CCP just needs to do what ever they can to make it as enjoyable for as many people to play as possible. The alternative is that this time next year, there's only going to be 2k~2,500 people on at any given time,if not less. That's just not enough people to keep this game viable.

There is obviously going to be some kind of respec for the vehicle fixes. Although I find it unlikely, there ought to be some kind of respec upon the introduction of the numerous racial variations too.

Respecs come down to two distinctly different ways of looking at the game:
1. It's an arcade lobby shooter and the only thing that matters is performance in a match. Respecs don't break the game because there is no persistence or commitment. There is also no role playing because who you are doesn't matter. You are simple a set of stats based on gear. Skills shouldn't even exist.
2. It's a persistent world where our characters develop over time. Relationships are established, empires are won and lost. History matters. Commitment matters. New equipment is introduced by NPCs along with skill books to learn how to use that equipment. Respecs break the history of your character. Respecs break evolving tactics because everyone can switch to that tactic with a simple skill change. Players can choose to role play to whatever degree they want. Faction warfare is about role playing, i.e.: Minmatar Rebels vs the Evil Amarr Slavers. Player connections evolve beyond the simple, canned RPG of FW into alliances. The game can even develop to the point where you are playing even offline (watch the Mittani's presentation from EVE Vegas for an example).
If you want a non-persistent lobby shooter (#1) there are plenty of games. Join your friends and have a good time trying out the latest gear with no commitment and that's fine. However, CCP is building DUST along the same lines as EVE. They are not yet done but are actively working towards #2. They will only use respecs when they are fixing something. I'm here for the persistent world.
Arcade style shooters bore me. Completely changing my character through a full respec kills any emotional investment I have in my characters. |

Then don't do it! No one is forcing you,or anyone else that doesn't want a respec to commit to a respec!
Like I said before,AUR based respecs is the way to go as it will help CCP financially and also developmentally.

What it actually boils down to is who sees the game for what it is, and who sees the game for what they want it to be.
People who see the game for what it actually is, see #1
People who are still drinking dream tea, see #2

What you specced into an OP gun....lol. You dummy, you should have known it would be nerfed and the product can change at any whim...
The game is free. You do not have anything to complain about...wait...you bought boosters with real money to gain SP and that said SP is now changed or deleted from game?
WOW
RESPECs are only logical and moral. My chocolate milk does not change into regular milk when I am home from the store. Logibro already said there's going to be a respec, they just don't know how yet. As for putting SP into a skill that is to change, you know that they are completely removing skills, right? yup but like you said ccp already said they are not ******* over anyone on sp...if they remove something the sp you spent on it will go unallocated because thats just how it has to be..i fully expect a vehicle respec and if i dont see one i fully expect the already dwindling population to plummet
just offering all vehicle sp back to players and converting all vehicles items back to currency would probably spike the dust pop..all the vehicle speccs that quit cause of op av will be back prolly as infantry it will be good for the health of dust and is all i am excited for |

Reav Hannari wrote:I think respecs are not healthy for a game where commitment and persistence is a core foundational concept.
Very well said. I agree 100% +1

skill refunds are fine, skill respecs are just silly lol.
if your skill no longer exists or the multiplier changed you should be refunded.
if a skill was simply nerfed that's just the way cookie crumbles.
if something new comes out, you should spend the time required speccing into it.
THE ONLY exception to this would be when the racial heavy/scout suits come in, imo the people who specced into heavy frames should be refunded all sp spent in heavy frames and be allowed to reallocate, this is only because they should be a core option to the game. |

Sorry can't agree.
And I am one of the biggest 'Anti-Respec' guys around. But I think a respec should be offered once the vehicle changes in implemented and the remaining racial dropsuits are in the game. That seems fair. But I think it should be a limited respec. Basically give players pack all SP put into Vehicle and Dropsuit Command skills. Then they can reallocate as they see fit.
Weapons and core skills should stay as is. New weapons and modules are going to be injected into the game for years to come and they should not ever require a respec.
As for future respecs? I say make players pay real $$ and include a penalty in which the player loses 20% of their total SP at respec. This hurts new players who made some early mistakes in skill progression less but highly discourages veteran players with more SP to lose.
As for me, no respec needed. 100% satisfied with every skill point I have spent. |
