If you have not done so, please read the introduction post here.
Oh this should be a fun thread. How many of you came here before reading any of the other threads? Admit it, be honest, most of you did. Thats OK, just please remember to read the rest of the threads before commenting. :)
What are Loyalty Points Loyalty points are essentially a currency that corporations within New Eden give to those who do things for them. For example the Federal Marines would give out Federal Marine loyalty points. These loyalty points can then be taken and used to buy unique items that the corporation has to offer. So you could take your Federal Marine loyalty points and spend them in the Federal Marine loyalty store which will have Federation equipment. This equipment (be it actual equipment, dropsuits, weapons, or modules) is custom and often times can only be gotten from that store.
You can get loyalty points for playing factional contracts and the higher your standing to the side you are fighting for the higher your loyalty point reward will be. One of the other unique concepts with the loyalty point store in EVE is that items in the LP store cost both ISK and LP. This is a concept we will be bringing to the DUST LP store as well. Things in the LP store will cost both ISK and LP.
Now that we have a basic understanding of what an LP store is, the next question what is going in available in the store. This is something that will probably expand and grow over time, but for this initial release we have two types of items we will be releasing in the loyalty point store.
Specialist Weapons Oh boy, these are fun. When we talked about the loyalty store and what we wanted in it we knew we wanted some really cool new weapons. Something that players would strive for and that would be the top teir stuff. So we went to CCP Remnant and asked for some cool stuff. What we got back... well this stuff is awesome. The basic idea is that we would add a new version of prototype weapons, almost everything the same as proto weapons. The only difference is that they have less fitting requirements. (big grin) Here is a list of the new weapons we are adding:
- Federation Duvolle Specialist Assault Rifle
- Federation CreoDron Specialist Shotgun
- Federation Allotek Specialist Plasma Cannon
- Republic Boundless Specialist Combat Rifle
- Republic Freedom Specialist Mass Driver
- Imperial Viziam Specialist Laser Rifle
- Imperial Specialist Scrambler Rifle
- State Kaalakiota Specialist Rail Rifle
- State Wiyrkomi Specialist Swarm Launcher
All available in the loyalty store for both ISK and LP, all offering the same stats as their normal prototype variant with just a bit less fitting requirements.
All Dem Aurum Items So, you know how you can go to the market and buy Aurum variations of weapons and equipment? For the most part the only difference between these items and their ISK counterparts is that they have lower skill requirements. Pay Aurum, get into stuff with less skill points. Well it turns out this creates a really tricky thing to balance, and we don't want to have any pay-to-win issues. With that in mind why not make all those Aurum variants available in the loyalty store as well? So we did. It turns out it makes our lives a lot easier, gives you guys a whole lot of stuff to get from the loyalty store, and is just awesome all around.
I am not going to go and list every Aurum item that will be in the loyalty store because that's a LONG list. I will however give you a brief breakdown of how those items will be distributed:
So from that you will notice a few things:
- Every race gets a copy of the CPU and PG upgrades
- The damage modifiers get split amongst the stores
- Gallente and Amarr get armor
- Caldari and Minmatar get shield
- Gallente and Caldari get vehicles
- Equipment is split evenly
- Weapons go to the race that they should based on design
- Dropsuits are included and go to their race
New Equipment So I lied. Aurum items and specialist weapons are the two primary types of things we are adding. But what about equipment though and all those logibros. Well we have a selection of equipment that is just... well all around better. More repair, longer lasting scan results, combining short spawn times with more spawns, things like that.
- Imperial Viziam Drop Uplink
- State Ishukone Nanohive
- Federation CreoDron Active Scanner
- State Wiyrkomi Nanite Injector
- Republic Core Repair Tool

This is where the secondary market will come in, you buy them from other people. Unfortunately that wont be around when we launch this feature. Game Designer // Team True Grit http://twitter.com/regnerba |

you have faction modules as armor to amarr/gal and shield to caldari/mini but then you make the repair tool mini. doesn't make sense to me. if anything the active scanner should be swapped from gal to mini and vice versa
personally i would like to see 2 versions of each item planned for the lp store with varying stats spread out over the factions. much like in eve where caldari and mini have very different versions of missile launchers etc etc |

One of the things that gives the LP store in Eve its value is that the things you earn can then be traded. You probably can't really answer how far off that is, but are you looking to balance LP costs initially with the idea that in the long term these things will be traded, or will the be balanced so that initially individuals will have a wide access to things that will actually be useful to them?
Also, will we possibly/soon see faction modules? Like Imperial plates and PG upgrades, or federation dampeners or State damage mods? |

First question is answered in another thread. They're being balanced initially with the idea that these items will be traded. CCP Logibro // EVE Universe Community Team // Distributor of Nanites // Patron Saint of Logistics

That's the idea, but the list only reflects items that are currently on the market. The Caldari Heavy suit when it's released would be placed in the State Peacekeepers LP store. CCP Logibro // EVE Universe Community Team // Distributor of Nanites // Patron Saint of Logistics

it would be very easy for a merc in a specific suit and usually by default a specific way of tanking to get his gear with enough lp off the same faction. as a logibro i'm not feeling this equipment spread 1 per faction as a good idea.
for me the repair tool is key for my role but as an amarr logi user with armor tank this leaves me with a dilemma. sure in the future we can buy these off other players but having 1 supplier for a key thing like equipment is just going to make all of them cost way too much to ever consider using.
considering most mercs are likely to go for whichever faction offers them the most chance at usable gear logi bros are going to have real issues.
eve gets past this issue by having factions that use the same types of gear have their own versions. |

I'm really liking the amarr rewards, especially as a logi. You could make good use of a lot of it. |

Awesome changes incoming with the introduction of LP to FW in Dust. The match changes you guys have discussed really sound like FW will be a compelling alternative to Public contracts (instead of just another form of Pub contracts, as they feel they are now).
Surely, though, seeing these discrepancies with the Faction LP rewards, you guys have to realize that all main racial weapons and drop suits need to be implemented sooner rather than later. However, it is nice to have some racial flair, such as a Republic Armor Repair Unit (but even this is a bit wonky, considering you guys are definitely pushing Minmatar as a shield race). |

All sounds very interesting but I have one concern about the LP system. You said that for Faction Contracts ISK rewards will be replaced by LP rewards. I don't think that system is a very fair one for a number of reasons:
- The problem with only giving Dust mercs LP is that you take away part of the incentive to do Faction Contracts in the first place. If I am going to run a decent suit for a Faction Contract then it is going to cost somewhere around 80,000 ISK depending on the fitting. If I die 5 times in that battle I lose 400,00 ISK and in return I get only LP. How am I meant to afford to purchase anything in the LP store if I'm not getting any ISK payout? And don't say go do some Public Contracts because that isn't going to happen unless you increase the ISK rewards there.
- There is nothing in the LP store that you have listed that I would want so there goes another incentive to do Faction Contracts. If I wanted Aurum gear I would buy it with Aurum. Giving us the exact same gear that you can buy with Aurum seems like an extremely lazy way of balancing the game. It's like saying "oh look, there's a hole in the wall. Instead of repairing the hole I'm going to make another hole on the opposite side of the room to balance the look of the first hole out". That doesn't sound logical now does it? So why do a half-baked job and give us items that are already easily available? If you are going to have an LP store why not make it like the Eve one, where you can actually get some decent stuff that has unique stats or attributes when compared to other gear?
- Kinda unrelated yet related to my above point. I've said this before and I'm pretty sure there are a hundred other people on the forums who have said it as well. If you want to fix the Aurum/pay to win issue just remove the Aurum gear and replace it with cosmetic suit skins or something like that. I have over 20 million SP, I do not need or want to buy any of the Aurum crap you have on the market no matter how many "sales" you put on the storefront (please stop doing that as well BTW). What I would spend Aurum on is a really cool camo skin for my suit that I could apply to any suit of my choice. I would spend many Aurums on these kind of things because frankly I am bored of looking at the same colour suit over and over again.

Well opening up the AUR items certainly is a smart move. It pretty much removes any P2W feeling from the game (not that I felt there really was any to begin with).
I would love to see more items that were centered around CPU/PG efficiency for those of us who are high in SP and will not require the 'early access' some of the AUR items provide in terms of skill level. |

Will there be any sort of reciprocity between friendly Factions, i.e. Gallente and Minmatar, at a reduced rate? For example, 100 Gallente Loyalty points equaling 50 Minmatar, or something along those lines? |

I wish it would be items besides just prototype....I do enjoy myself some prototype items. But thats a huge amount of SP that needs to be sunk in order to utilize the LP store. Please also include some adv tech as thats not quite so difficult to skill into.
Will dropsuits have more PG/CPU or change in slots or perhaps both :D
Third times a charm :D
Could also use a militia chat channels once we reach a specific reward level so we can coordinate or notify EVE pilots of needed OB support.
PS you said "ALL AUR ITEMS" but I dont see boosters. |

Overall, the concept of LP is very sound and could be a significant boon to the game.
My primary concerns are actually highlighted by the recent FW event we just finished. Great rewards for a managable grind on that one BTW. Here is the crux of the problem that I and several of my corp mates faced:
1) Our alliance / Corp fights for Faction A but a WHOLE BUNCH of us use gear / suits from Factions B, C, & D. This actually puts us in a tough spot when trying to bring in EVE pilot back up or when the alliance leaders need us fighting for a particular faction that rewards gear we frankly can't use.
2) I understand the long term idea of using player market to even this out but from a practical standpoint I've got hundreds of items in my armory that i can't use now. Without a clear idea of when the p2p trading would be allowed I'm very leary of this.
3) To off set this there should be some form us LP exchange rate...similar to monetary exchange rates. Example...1000 Caldari LP = 850 Amarr LP = 700 Minmitarr LP = 450 Gallente LP. I know this goes a bit against the grain for the intent of the LP, just offering some options.
4) Let me be clear...I'm all in on LP and FW concepts the Devs are putting out. I think it is a fair request that until all racial variant kit, weapons, suits are out and the p2p market or trading is established that there is some mild to moderate mitigation baked in that can be stripped out of the game as racial options and player market come online.

I like pretty much everything in this post. The only additional items I'd like in the LP stores would be redesigned weapons, for example, with different sights. Maybe suits with tweaked stats, e.g., lower PG but higher speed. Definitely suits with faction designs, colors, logos, camo, etc.
Having AUR items purchasable with LP is genius--although maybe they could be alternate versions in both name and coloration. Specialist weapons and equipment should suit many people who would rather just buy AUR gear with AUR.
Overall, good work, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the store fleshes out in the future. |
