It appears to be weak VS armor, but I'm not sure.
Only level 2 right now but I'm having a really hard time in close combat.
Thinking about skilling into Commando with that character to max out reload speed. |

I don't really think the answer to using the worst weapon in the game currently is to skill into the worst suit in the game. I'm not saying the Plasma Cannon can't be used effectively(I've seen video of people who can), just that it's incredibly difficult and the Commando suit won't do you any favors. |

I'm going to try out the Advanced one and if I don't like it, I'll delete the character and build a Tanker instead. |

At least 2 or 3 hit KO on heavies. Um... ability to kill tanks.
And guys, you don't really need to be fast with plasma cannon, so I'm thinking Commando will be fine. |

A direct hit will 1HK a heavy unless they're obscenely tanked and you are just using STD, tanks vary but generally you can do good damage to militia tanks and gunnlogis. I would choose evasion over defense when using the plc (and complex damage mods) so I wouldn't go for the commando but I have heard that it can work. |

Think about it. Commando is the only way to max out reload speed, just like Minmatar Logi is the only way to max out hack speed.

I run a smg secondary. Take out most of their health with the PLC and finish them off with the smg. Theres normally a delay after you shoot where you cant switch weapons for a second or two but i know a way around it. |

STD as in standard item. If you're just using 'Plasma Cannon', it's weaker than the 'Allotek Plasma Cannon'.
Most of the time with the PLC you don't have time to reload in a fight, even if you have reload bonuses. I would recommend going for a faster and tankier suit with a sidearm instead of a Commando. |

Currently Commando is a waste of SP for the PLC, since there's a 2 second delay after firing the weapon, hence the reload speed doesn't matter as much. A commando is also more easily hit than the lighter suits, with fewer slots. Trust me, as fun as dual PLC on a commando is, it's not that effective. I've tried.
I believe that close combat is where the PLC shines, as long as you get a direct hit. Heavies are a good target since they're slow and scouts are good aswell since they mostly die to the splash. You won't do much against tanks alone, since you get a shot in every 6 seconds or so, doing around 1k damage on shields. Well fitted tanks have more than enough ways to deal with the damage of a solo PLC. Then again, 6 man PLC squad does some nasty burst damage to the tanks.
PLC needs some time to get used to and the other weapons do things more efficiently than it anyways. If you don't feel like the weapon is fun to use, I'd suggest you to try something else. It won't get noticeably better with proto and profiency, compared to the basic version. Few more splash kills, but still most of your kills are going to be OHK which the basic one can deliver to anyone except the tankiest of heavies.
Not recommended for rookies or tryhards. It can deliver great results in pubs with balanced teams though (29/1 is my best with it). |

Definitely a negative. Medium range, especially when they don't notice you're there.
Close combat would only be good if you're hiding behind a corner.

Every weapon is good when the opponent doesn't notice you. In a dog fight, close combat is where your opponent has the least time to dodge the shot. It is really easy to sidestep the shot in medium+ range. People who can't make it or underestimate the weapon, deserve to get hit. And naturally as you can shoot every 6 seconds with the gun, most of the time you are somewhere in cover to reload the shot. Which makes corners your best friend. |

This. Plus it's much easier to predict the enemy's movements at close range. |

Plasma cannon isn't for close combat. Stay behind your team in whatever semblance of a "frontline" they are providing and lob it in.
If you are going for CQ trolling then get a scout suit and move like a shotgunner. Jump around a lot. That's how I've seen effective CQ users do well.
Also, follow a heavy and provide support. That combo works well. |

They still describe guns that shoot in bursts as "semi-automatic". At one point the SMG was said to be "semi-automatic".

If this is what you expect from PC you will be disappointed. No one in the game can reliably kill good armor with PC. LAVs are too fast and HAVs have too much hp and are too mobile to die to PC. You can one shot heavies with it though. But heavies are relatively rare and lighter suits are too fast to be threatened by PC. Also, PC suffers from poor hit detection.
If you want to use PC for fun, by all means, spec into it. It is fun. It is not an effective weapon though. |
