Currently Commando is a waste of SP for the PLC, since there's a 2 second delay after firing the weapon, hence the reload speed doesn't matter as much. A commando is also more easily hit than the lighter suits, with fewer slots. Trust me, as fun as dual PLC on a commando is, it's not that effective. I've tried.
I believe that close combat is where the PLC shines, as long as you get a direct hit. Heavies are a good target since they're slow and scouts are good aswell since they mostly die to the splash. You won't do much against tanks alone, since you get a shot in every 6 seconds or so, doing around 1k damage on shields. Well fitted tanks have more than enough ways to deal with the damage of a solo PLC. Then again, 6 man PLC squad does some nasty burst damage to the tanks.
PLC needs some time to get used to and the other weapons do things more efficiently than it anyways. If you don't feel like the weapon is fun to use, I'd suggest you to try something else. It won't get noticeably better with proto and profiency, compared to the basic version. Few more splash kills, but still most of your kills are going to be OHK which the basic one can deliver to anyone except the tankiest of heavies.
Not recommended for rookies or tryhards. It can deliver great results in pubs with balanced teams though (29/1 is my best with it). |

Medium range, especially when they don't notice you're there. Close combat would only be good if you're hiding behind a corner. Once the enemy sees what you're using, they'll jump around and **** and you WONT hit them.
Every weapon is good when the opponent doesn't notice you. In a dog fight, close combat is where your opponent has the least time to dodge the shot. It is really easy to sidestep the shot in medium+ range. People who can't make it or underestimate the weapon, deserve to get hit. And naturally as you can shoot every 6 seconds with the gun, most of the time you are somewhere in cover to reload the shot. Which makes corners your best friend. |

I used to think the plasma cannon was worthless, but these two players have done some amazing things with it, many of which blow my mind. Had the pleasure of squading up with Hally Tari-Tari and other plasmaniacs today. Needless to say, the 6 man PLC squad broke the fun meter and absolutely wrecked in all but one match. Maybe one day we'll get to play with Marquess aswell. |
