CCP has noted before that the weekly cap is in place to prevent die hard players from reaching end game within a few months. When I think on this, I come to realize how little I care whether a player has reached "end game" or not. For example, I wouldn't quit CoD just because some players have already reached 15th prestige, also you don't see Treyarch or Activision, or whoever the hell makes CoD bashing players over the head for reaching end game too quickly - if that's their play style, so be it.
I don't really understand your fear CCP of there being large gaps of earned "skill" between new and old players. If you were truly worried about this, then shouldn't new players not have an SP cap at all until say they hit 3 million lifetime SP?
In a universe such as New Eden where the four races are distinctly different in not only beliefs, but fighting styles, why is there a weekly SP cap to try and make sure there are no runaway high SP characters? I thought the whole premise of New Eden was to fight your own war, to be different, to make a change in your own special way. How do you go about making a change and being different or having a better skillset when CCP has the SP cap to slap you in the face for playing I guess what the deem is "too much."
Another negative aspect of the cap is that it diminishes my desire to play once capped out. No offense CCP, but DUST is nowhere near fun enough to play once you're capped out. Why continue to play when you only earn 1500 SP (2000 SP with Omega Active Boosters) per match? It would take me five matches just to earn 10,000 SP which I can do when not capped out in just about one to one and a half matches. I'm sorry, but that is just downright infuriating.
SP rollover would be a godsend if this were ever implemented in the future. I could continue to play while "capped out" but say if I earn 30K SP while capped out, that 30K SP would be awarded to me on Wednesday when the cap is reset. If it were that way, it wouldn't feel as if I am playing for no reason while capped out because I'd know I will still be awarded those SP on Wednesday.
TL;DR - Yeah I was working towards Proto Amarr Logi when I reached 1.1 mil unallocated SP and then hit the SP cap Saturday - needless to say I was pretty livid. As I brooded in my room I began to think more in depth about the SP cap and yeah churned this thread out. This is probably a T_T thread but idk really...you be the judge, but hey at least I'm honest and admit that this thread is pretty much T_T - do I get honesty points or something? |

Seems more like a negative opinion that a QQ.
I once said that it would be cool to give players 7 days of triple SP starting the moment they get out of academy. This would allow them to catch up (Also mentioned starting with 0 sp and making you have to work your way back to 500k to get out of academy but w/e lol)

Hmm, I forgot about the AURUM aspect.
CCP figures that players will get impatient trying to obtain a certain level item and therefore by the AUR equivalent. The chances of that actually happening increases if there is a SP cap in place preventing players from getting what they want as quickly as they want THEREFORE THE SP CAP IS A MONEY MAKING PROCESS CCP HAS IMPLEMENTED INTO THE GAME!
Yeah that's how conspiracy theories get started, but I had fun playing connect the dots just then.

I see no point in keeping it, it hinders everyone that like to play this game and punishes those that support CCP.
the sp cap is so annoying, once you hit it, theres no longer a point in playing the rest of the week other than to get the isk. |

Yeah but most players would not wanna sit there and grind to fight high SP players. New players get pup stomped now. Can you imagine if there was a 40-50 million sp gap?
It would drive away new players and make the player count even lower.
Edit: but I do agree that new players shoulsnt have a cap till 3-5 million sp. Maybe even give them double SP then they get there. |

If Dust was as promised there would be no end game because there would always be something to do an Eve contract to fulfill, a district to try and take over, however, CCP must realize that right now all they have developed is a grind game that they are trying desperately (in all the wrong ways) to convince us to keep playing. |

Slight difference in COD, all you get when you reach 15'th prestige is the stupid option to do it all over again from the start with some new shiny prestige marks. In this if you just ground like a mad man from the start (like some people do) you could easily reach full proto on everything in a couple of months. |

I agree that the SP cap is more of a handicap to new players than to vets. I think the real way to do this would be either the rollover or better yet a universal cap. People are rewarded more for when they started playing rather than how much time they spend playing.

Maybe even give them double SP then they get there. Faster SP gains actually helps newer players more than older players. If you can play with no cap and get +1,000,000 SP per week it has a much more noticeable effect when you are at 500,000 (it makes a huge difference across many core skills) than when you are at 25,000,000 (you can get uh... ALMOST get from hacking III to hacking V).
That said, there is a cap because the people who are most likely to speed to end-game are also the people who are most likely to spend $$$ to eek out every last skillpoint within the weekly cap through boosters etc. So removing cap hurts the business model.
A rolling cap would actually be perfect ... and is what the community wants ... whereby you have a permanent running pool that is increased by 190,000 each week as this would allow newer players to 'catch up'. |

I cap in one day every time. Every other Thursday is my"DUST Day". I'll still play for ISK, fun, or if I'm squadding w/ friends. I may only make 10,000 SP in that session, but I still make few million ISK and have a good time. I won't buy a booster for this game until its a better working product; but quite frankly I have no need for boosters at this point, except maybe to better my HAV build.
SP shouldn't be the only drive in this game, you'll go mad. And yes, SP is limited and tied directly to AURUM for revenue purposes. CCP deserves to have an opportunity to make money while they run the servers.
Boosters are for a long term investment. I actually recommend buying them ASAP so SP can no longer hinder your fun in this game.

Seems to me that the primary purpose of the cap is to encourage booster sales. If you are double Omega'd and play daily, you could earn upwards of 1 mil SP per week. For newer players who have money to spend and who are intent on catching up to vets, this is a worthwhile investment. |

You create too great a gulf in abilities you lose new player base. The game needs to be instantly playable and enjoyable. It needs variety not more and more power. It's a game. It's a product that needs to succeed in a market. |

I am a very new player. Got a few merc packs to help me get started and then noticed the expended sp not even a day or so later.
Why would I ever buy a active booster again when I only benefit from it really like one day a week?
Now I am just logging in for the login reward until Weds where I will get another day or so of SP to just stop playing again. The reason to stop is because it is not fun getting stomped by high SP players and squads and if I am not earning SP to eventually be able to compete... there is no point. |

Active SP was a road CCP should never have gone down. They need to give us more reasons to play. The easiest thing CCP could acomplish given the game as it is today, would be to make factional warfare somehow more interesting. It would give many players a reason to play and it would distract us from the lack of pve and the slow march of core fps mechanics and balance. |
