Hello everyone, there may have already been a thread on this topic, but I couldn't find it. I keep seeing interesting names, names that strike my funny bone, names that nag at my brain as though I know them already, names ironically unsuited to the player, and those all too fitting. My point is, some names beg to be explained and I think some people would love to tell the story of naming their character too. So throw your name and reasoning out there (and wait for the trolls to descend).
To kick it of: I am Lanius Pulvis because initially I wanted to name myself Lanius Excubitor after the Northern Shrike. For those not familiar, the Northern Shrike is a robin sized sub-arctic song bird native to Canada that winters in the U.S. It's the only song bird known to regularly hunt vertebrates. When it wants to store food it impales it's catch on thorn bushes to eat at it's leisure.
I had hoped my new DS pilot would grow to be worthy of this name and association, alas it was not to be...the name was taken (D*** YOU LANIUS EXCUBITOR). I searched for another name to aspire to as a ground attack pilot, but everything was taken.
Then I had an epiphany, the scientists who discover animals make it up, why can't I... And thus I took Lanius (the Shrike family name) and added Pulvis (Latin for dust). And so the DUST Shrike was born...(cue triumphal music)...
Anyone else have a story to share? |

my name is because I am unknown and very un-noticeable which allows me to be very destructive. I am unknown and unpredictable, people ignore me and its as if I was in the void, nothing is here except me... and the past continues to echo in my ears and thoughts, thus I named myself Void Echo. |

I like the name Keri and I didn't want an existing last name, so I picked a word I like as last name. Also, it unoriginally refers to the game itself, being "space" based. |

Skipper Jones came from a list of names that my sister gave to me. Which ever name I picked was the name she would call me. Skipper Jones kind of stuck on.

I have two characters
Jason Pearson, I felt uncreative and when making my PSN account I used my real name, so I figured I'd use my real name in DUST too.
Skiy Zither Laroso, I've had Skiy (Zither/Laroso) since I was about 8, initially playing MUDs and then 2d games, kept the name and several slight variations across numerous games, Skiy Laroso being prominent in Graal (I was little, it had AKs) and Face of Mankind (I am bad at FoM, yet still R7 for a while, yay).
(Someone google Skiy Laroso for a video of QQ about me ganking them, lul.)
