Heh, "functioning". I wish it was, need my crop insurance claim to pay my crop insurance. . Which both come out and go to the same office. |

I agree, it was necessary (mostly because while doing my taxes last year I was told I'd have to pay an exponentially rising fine for not having the government supplied healthcare) but I -really- want to make it Fan Fest 2014 and I need my passport for that =< |

Sure, apart from the CCTV controversy and similar issues of 'Big Brother' and government corruption that America experiences. Basically, so far as I know, England is just like America. Only without the guns. |

Quote: Although much of the federal workforce will go without pay, checks will keep coming to the 533 current members of Congress.
Why? The 27th Amendment prevents any Congress from changing its own pay.
"That is disgraceful in my view," said freshman Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii. "Basically the only people who get paid in a shutdown are members of Congress, and that is irresponsible."
The combat veteran said she plans to send any pay she receives during the shutdown back to the Treasury.
Rep. John Fleming, R-Louisiana, said he hadn't thought through what he would do with his paychecks, but said he would likely donate his pay during a shutdown to charity.
"Obviously we need to share the pain of the American people," he said.
The president too will get paid. His salary -- $400,000 -- is considered mandatory spending.
On Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder said he would take a pay cut equal to the Justice Department employees most severely impacted by a shutdown.
Disgusting, really. Our people are suffering but these guys get away with their own pay and probably still keep their lifetime pensions. These members of Congress, all of them, should be put to jail for life. |

I live in Louisiana and am proud of John Fleming's standpoint on this.
But, back to a Dust topic, it'd be nice if there were a system of government that acted like a hybrid of Caldari and Gallente values. Civil liberties and individual freedom with representatives not elected, but placed into their seat by merit. |

It really depends. There is no right answer to economy but some people are alright with this while some aren't. It's more of a cultural / outlook thing.
Of course I'm not ignorant enough to trash on another method when my own preferred way isn't perfect in anyway either.

No, my problem is that the US Government is telling me that I need to get health insurance but isn't willing to pay for it - they want me to pay for but I have absolutely no control over which doctor I go, what he prescribes me or what the Federal Government deems necessary as part of that health plan. If the government wants me to inject a chip into my hand as covered under their "medical devices" policies, I can't say anything against it because they're the ones mandating my (mandatory) health plan.
On the other hand, a True Socialism like Finland actually funds their own health care. Their education system is far superior because they pay their teachers like our politicians and they all operate under the stance of "do whatever it takes" and beyond that, if you don't have your own land - the government provides land for you complete with home and stead.
You can also work anywhere you'd like because the card they give you is applicable at any location you are qualified to work. If there are too many people at the mill today I can just go over to the black smith and work iron - still make the same pay. |
