Here's to hoping they get this BS ironed out before Fan Fest 2014 for those of us who don't yet have our passports.

(Note: Government Shutdown = no new passports issued) I would much rather the government stays shut down than get my passport renewed. I love to travel but... I love the government shut down way more.
I agree, it was necessary (mostly because while doing my taxes last year I was told I'd have to pay an exponentially rising fine for not having the government supplied healthcare) but I -really- want to make it Fan Fest 2014 and I need my passport for that =< |

Sure, apart from the CCTV controversy and similar issues of 'Big Brother' and government corruption that America experiences. Basically, so far as I know, England is just like America. Only without the guns. |

Why? The 27th Amendment prevents any Congress from changing its own pay.
"That is disgraceful in my view," said freshman Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii. "Basically the only people who get paid in a shutdown are members of Congress, and that is irresponsible."
The combat veteran said she plans to send any pay she receives during the shutdown back to the Treasury.
Rep. John Fleming, R-Louisiana, said he hadn't thought through what he would do with his paychecks, but said he would likely donate his pay during a shutdown to charity.
"Obviously we need to share the pain of the American people," he said.
The president too will get paid. His salary -- $400,000 -- is considered mandatory spending.
On Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder said he would take a pay cut equal to the Justice Department employees most severely impacted by a shutdown.
Disgusting, really. Our people are suffering but these guys get away with their own pay and probably still keep their lifetime pensions. These members of Congress, all of them, should be put to jail for life.
I live in Louisiana and am proud of John Fleming's standpoint on this.
But, back to a Dust topic, it'd be nice if there were a system of government that acted like a hybrid of Caldari and Gallente values. Civil liberties and individual freedom with representatives not elected, but placed into their seat by merit. |

Waitaminute. You're going to move to a true socialist country because you can't stand the U.S. government telling you that you need to get health insurance? What is this I don't even...
No, my problem is that the US Government is telling me that I need to get health insurance but isn't willing to pay for it - they want me to pay for but I have absolutely no control over which doctor I go, what he prescribes me or what the Federal Government deems necessary as part of that health plan. If the government wants me to inject a chip into my hand as covered under their "medical devices" policies, I can't say anything against it because they're the ones mandating my (mandatory) health plan.
On the other hand, a True Socialism like Finland actually funds their own health care. Their education system is far superior because they pay their teachers like our politicians and they all operate under the stance of "do whatever it takes" and beyond that, if you don't have your own land - the government provides land for you complete with home and stead.
You can also work anywhere you'd like because the card they give you is applicable at any location you are qualified to work. If there are too many people at the mill today I can just go over to the black smith and work iron - still make the same pay. |

Oo how does your country function?!? Also ndaa??
The NDAA stands for "National Defense Authorization Act" and basically entails what the countries budget is for military spending along with a host of other things. None more notorious than the clause on Indefinite Detention without due process (meaning you don't get a lawyer and there is no court and they can keep you as long as they please) for anyone suspected of association with a terrorist cell.
This is vague as the dickens and so over-broad that it basically entitles everyone, including American citizens. A teenage girl actually was arrested for a science project under this kind of gross circumstance. It's been the topic of much debate because of it's controversy for a good while now and that, coupled with the National Security Agency collecting cell-phone data and linking social networks (not just facebook, legitimate real-life friendships) to every person under the pretense they -MIGHT- be associated with a terrorist cell.
It's definitely been a major hit to our civil liberties and has even inspired some live events in Dust 514 |

Yeah the link was to the announcement for the Black Eagles event which was about "developing illegal crowd-control weapons" ... I was wondering where you found the information or even how this related to this NDAA you're talking about ? I don't know anything about it, but from what people are saying it's more to do with control over military budget and powers to detain ... unless there's been some case of this budget being spent on illegal weaponry I don't understand how this event could have been inspired by this NDAA you're talking about.
Focusing on the wrong part of the live event. It was the fact that it was controversial, against civil liberties etc. Also the bit on the hacktivist group is grounds for a good chuckle (anonymous) |

That is the way I see it, anyway. Happened last year. Forgot what it was about, though.
I do have a suspicion it was about the debt ceiling or something of the like. Actually, last year was about the debt ceiling. The Republican's threw a fit and refused to pay the bills so the United States lost its AAA credit rating. The government was not shut down though. This is the first time it has been shut down since Clinton was in office, which is two decades. Ironically enough last time it got shut down a bunch of Republicans were throwing a hissy fit too. Which in turn lead to an all Democratic Congress the following election because people got pissed off. I predict the same this time around. Kamikaze missions rarely turn out well and that is what the GOP is doing by holding America hostage.
Debt ceiling is going to be up for debate against on the 17th but honestly we needed this shut down because Government Health-Care is shady at best in it's current iteration. |

Because it's not about providing health care to the citizens =P It's about having an extra paycheck.

Id say this supposed government shutdown is all Obamas fault seeing how from what ive been hearing is that he is trying to act like a dictator...
it almost seems like a conspiracy of some sort....
at this point in time a monkey would do a better job on being a president than Obama....
I may not know much of what is all going on up there but for one thing I do know is that they need to get rid of this guy and replace him with some other person...
if we had elected a smart person for president we wouldn't really be having these problem currently..
that is all I really have to say for my perception on this...
nearly every person in the government right now...is an idiot...
and from what ive been hearing, Obama has only proven me right...about him being an idiot.
To be honest, I'm having trouble finding a single human being who ever voted for him, honestly. Starting to think the voting was rigged.
